Update #3 []: Sony has finally closed a loophole which allowed thousands of European PS Plus subscribers to claim a free PS5 game.
CarX Street was accidentally reduced to the grand fee of free for most of last week, with many benefiting from the complimentary download.
Now that issue has been resolved, with the game showing its full price of £24.99 in the UK.
If you were lucky enough to claim it, there’ll now be an anxious wait to see if Sony revokes access or just honours the error.

As of the time of writing, we can still download and play the game, but we’ll let you know if that changes over the coming days.
Update #2 []: We’re now over 48 hours since CarX Street was accidentally made available for free on the PS Store for PS Plus subscribers, and there’s no sign of the issue being fixed. While the text on Sony’s storefront implies this is an error, it doesn’t look like the platform holder is in any rush to resolve it.
We’d still recommend claiming the game quickly if you haven’t already, because who knows when the plug will get pulled on this accidental freebie. But at this stage, we can’t see the platform holder revoking access – the error’s been live for so long now it’s just going to have to swallow the loss.
Update #1 []: It's been nearly 24 hours since we first spotted PS5 racer CarX Street for free on the PS Store in Europe, and many of you have already claimed it and started playing.
As we update this article now, the game remains free, with no changes to the situation. We had assumed this would be fixed long ago, but that's not the case.
If you didn't claim it yet, do so. We'll obviously keep an eye on the situation and let you know once this is resolved and whether Sony revokes access.
Original Story: Open world racer CarX Street is currently showing as free for PS Plus members on the PS Store – in Europe, at least.
The open world racer is a relatively popular release with 4.26 rating on Sony’s storefront, after attracting almost 2.5k reviews.
In what is quite clearly a mistake, the game is showing as free for PS Plus Essential subscribers through 10th September. We’ve been able to claim it and download it without any issues, although it’s always possible Sony may revoke our access once this issue is resolved.
Nevertheless, we’d recommend you try your luck while you can, Sony may yet honour the transactions as this is its own error. We’ll update when we learn more.
CarX Street is a sandbox racer with a heavy emphasis on physics. Here’s what the official blurb says:
"Conquer mountain slopes, vast highways, and bustling city streets in CarX Street. Build the car of your dreams with fine-tuning that reveals the full potential of CarX Technology© physics. Take part in thrilling single or multiplayer races, and enjoy realistic gameplay and dynamic controls."
