The previously announced native PS5 version for Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice is available now, alongside Senua's Saga: Hellblade 2, ported over from Xbox and out today. Anyone who owns the original PS4 version gets a free upgrade, or you can buy the PS5 version for £24.99 / $29.99.
A bundle containing the original game on PS5 alongside today's ported follow-up is also on offer for £69.99 / $69.99, which represents a small saving over buying the two separately. Anyone looking for the free upgrade should navigate to the PS Store page and claim it on a page like this:

A better game than the sequel, Hellblade: Senua's Sacrifice was a PS4 highlight back in 2017. We awarded the game an 8/10 score and concluded: "As a character action game, it has decent if underdeveloped combat and a mixture of some excellent and some overplayed puzzles. But it’s the way that the title utilises the unique attributes of the medium to raise awareness of mental health that elevates this release beyond the sum of its parts."

Well that's a unexpected W
For some reason it’s not showing up for me found out why it’s because I own a physical copy and the free upgrade is coming at a later date for ps4 physical copy owners
@Paulbuck28 I have a digital copy and I can't upgrade. When I search for the game it shows my purchased ps4 version and the ps5 version for 29.99€.
Anyone know if it autopops the platinum if you already did it on PS4?
Oh sweet, I think I got this with PS Plus years ago (maybe?) and the upgrade is there. Awesome, thanks for the heads up PS!
@Czar_Khastik yeah it’s not going good at all with the free upgrade hope you can get it sorted soon
Yeah I have the free upgrade from within the app. That said, you'd have to pay me to entertain this game ever again.
Enriched mode on ps5 pro runs at 60
Did it ever release in Japan? Can’t find it in the store
One of my favourite games ever. It's a shame the sequel apparently isn't near the first one's level of quality, but I'll give it a shot sometime in the future.
The original game remains as one of my favourite horror experiences in recent years. Granted, I am a massive p*ssy so scaring me is very easy😂, but this game has some truly terrifying moments.
@homelesscretin it's best to play it with lights off and headphones. Same with Until Dawn.
@Americansamurai1
I’d like to know this too.
The upgrade seems to be a separate product from both the PS4 and the PS5 versions, which are also separate. That's how it looked on my app anyway. 3 listings in total.
@Czar_Khastik
You've probably already done this, but I had a similar problem with a different game a while back - take a look in the different versions section (the 3 dots in a circle, on the product page, next to "wishlist") - there may be a different version its not defaulting to.
Does it include a chapter replay? I missed one collectible in the game and I know exactly where it is at. I would love to go back and grab it to get the platinum trophy instead of playing all the way up to chapter 9.
I found it after a bit of searching, it is a separate product on the store but it was free. Downloading now, never got round to finishing it so I want to give it another shot.
Wow nice forgot about this one
@homelesscretin I wouldn't say the second one isn't near the firsts level of quality. In every technical sense it's a huge step up.
The gameplay are the writing though are more divisive. If you buy into what they're doing with the game you'll have a good time, up their with the first.
It's just kind of more niche, so plenty of people don't.
@Czar_Khastik
Use the PS App and type in Hellblade. It should show the option for the free PS5 upgrade with an add to library option to click on. Then it will ask to download to console.
I have a digital copy, as well and it worked for me.
If you could, please reply back to let me know if you figured it out. Thank you.
I'm in the US. I'm hoping that it works for you in your country.
Mines downloaded ok. I'll give this another play through. Not getting 2 until it's cheap though
What should've happened to begin with, considering how well the first game sold on PS4 and likely contributed to Ninja Theory being acquired. But still, better late than never.
@Rich33 @SoftAssassin Yap, I tried to select another version in the app as well as going to the three dots option on the console but it doesn't work either way.
I even thought that maybe I'm viewing the ps plus essential version and since I don't have ps plus active anymore, maybe I downloaded the wrong version but it says "purchased" next to the game and I have the option to play it (but can't try right now, will try it later).
What I can definitely see when I search for "hellbade" is that there are 2 versions there: "Senua's sacrifice" and "Senua's sacrifice TM (trademark)". I have the TM version and it is PS4 only. The one without TM is the PS5 version.
But it seems I'm the only one with this issue so maybe I'm really doing something wrong.
@naruball Duuuuuuude, I can't imagine playing this WITHOUT headphones. And yes, playing it in the dark at 12am with only a cup of cold milk to comfort you is the best way to experience the game.
Like I don't know what it is man, but this game really got under my skin. I've played scary games before, but hellblade is just a cut above the rest when it comes to raw immersion. It just nails that feeling of isolation and loneliness
Had to do it through the app, weird how its not showing on the console store.
@homelesscretin The camera placed so close to Senua really makes you feel vulnerable to off-screen enemies. You need to really rely on the voices, and with headphones on and the whispered warnings right in your ears the immersion is perfect.
And the game’s a visual feast on the base PS4. I can’t wait to play the new version
@Czar_Khastik
I'm sorry to hear that. I hope that Your issue is settled soon.
PSN is so weird sometimes. Hellblade doesn’t show up at all in the search for me in the app, I had to go to the PSN store website. It’s so goofy 🤪
@pyrrhic_victory
I guess the reason why it took this long, might be because Sony probably didn't want to provide PS5 developer kits to Microsoft owned studios just like it happened with Minecraft. I guess the situation changed.
@Paulbuck28 worked fine for me put my disc in and upgraded.. idk why ur lying but u are lol
@Czar_Khastik
Sorry then, I dont have a clue outside the normal 'restore licenses' other than contacting Sony themselves. Hope you get it fixed.
@peewee78368 on the website for the game it say under the faq section that the digital copy will receive it today and the owners of a physical copy will have to wait that’s where I found the information
@peewee78368 probably you got the game also digital over ps plus or something?
The FAQ says that disc owners need to wait longer.
Will try it with the disc later today.
@TrollOfWar don’t think so. Ms simply didn’t want to put effort in ps5 versions during that time.
Can we have Psychonauts 2 next, please?
Bit late now surely? Really enjoyed the game but can’t imagine going back for another go and expect most folks that were interested have played it already.
@Paulbuck28 that's wat xbox support emailed me !! They said at a later date for ps4 physical copy owners
one of these overhyped games which offered absolutely nothing in terms of pure gameplay (boring exploration and even more boring fights), more of a curiosity and gimmick than real experience. audio was good, but not outstanding.
@Surfprince18 yeah and they also replied to someone on twitter with the same information
Thanks for the heads up
Eu tenho a versão mídia física e não aparece nada para fazer a atualização para o PS5!!!
