@JB_Whiting Maybe some of the RE characters and villains, like Mr. X instead of whatever that white blob guy is? I've heard people say that this guy is the merchant from RE8, but I'm not sure
Now, I could be wrong on this, but judging solely by that trailer, the tone doesn't feel like Resident Evil to me. As I said before, it just looks like a standard horror movie
@Hoodie718 Yeah, it does seem like he's a fan of the Resident Evil games, but judging solely off of the trailer and even his quote, it looks like this film could have been any other zombie flick, with or without the Resident Evil brand attached to it.
I may catch some flack for this opinion, but for all the things that they butchered and got wrong, at least the early Milla Jovovich movies actually tried to incorporate elements and characters from the games into their narratives (like Umbrella Corporation, Albert Wesker, etc). Like, I can still tell that they're Resident Evil.
Then again, I'm also probably one of the only people who genuinely thinks the first Resident Evil movie was actually good. I'd argue it's still the best live-action adaptation of the series to date.
I'm gonna be honest with you, this looks nothing like Resident Evil. May be a good movie, but it has about as much in common with the franchise as that awful Netflix TV show does.
Hopefully, there's actually more Resident Evil stuff in the film than this trailer lets on
@Zuljaras No problem! The recording thing is definitely a big issue though, if there's one thing I really dislike about Xbox compared to other platforms, it's that they don't let you record more than a minute of gameplay footage at a time. There are ways to record for longer periods of time, but they require USB drives or something like that.
On PlayStation 5, I believe you can just record an hour without any problems. Not sure about Switch 2, since I haven't gotten the console yet.
@Zuljaras You do know that the Xbox Series controller has a dedicated button for taking screenshots, right? The Xbox Series controller also works on Xbox One X, so you shouldn't have to deal with so many problems when taking screenshots anymore.
@Zuljaras Unrelated to the subject of the article at hand, but I had a... sneaking suspicion you weren't the biggest fan of Xbox. I love seeing the posts you make each week showing what games that you're playing, but I noticed that there was almost always a particular green console brand missing from your physical games lineup. That's fine ofc, not everyone can or should be a fan of everything.
@johncalmc Funnily enough, I've seen more gaming websites go back to using first-person in their feature articles in order to distinguish themselves from the AI slop that's filling the internet, but I guess Push Square still has rules against it in certain cases?
@CutchuSlow They have made several modern games based off of their old IPs, like Adventures of Samsara which came out last year and the upcoming Bubsy 4D, but they haven't really gotten much attention despite getting positive reviews
@Shepherd_Tallon I think that the best path for a gaming CEO to take is somewhere in between what Phil and Herman are doing/did. Don't talk too much, as Phil did to the point where it seemed like he was contradicting himself every two weeks. But also don't act like a brick wall, and avoid communicating with players entirely.
@carlos82 Well, I think that was more so due to the fact they had a 30% profit margin and had just acquired ABK, rather that that being indicative of their games being unsustainable on Xbox and PC alone. If the rumors about Microsoft easing profit margins are true, then I can see Microsoft going back to exclusivity for some, but not all, titles
@get2sammyb It definitely did bite them in the ass, and while I don't think Asha should form a parasocial relationship again, it's kind of necessary for her to actually outline her plans for Xbox given that she's, you know, the new CEO of Xbox. I would be more concerned if she DIDN'T say anything.I'm surprised you don't think that way.
@get2sammyb No, I'm not kidding. Yeah, Phil did do interviews pretty frequently, but if you look at his and Bond's social media history, like, pre-2023, you'll see that they interacted a lot more with the community. Of course, even in the last few years, Phil interacted way more with journalists than Doug Bowser and Herman Hulst probably have in their entire tenures (which isn't necessarily a good thing, mind you), so I can see why you may think that way.
Also, I think the Game Pass price drop counts as something meaningful, even if not everyone is satisfied with it due to the removal of CoD and the fact that Fortnite Crew/Ubisoft+ is still included
@carlos82 How about the 30+ million Xbox console owners, and the tens of millions of people on PC? I don't know why, but people keep acting like if Xbox stopped putting their games on PlayStation/Nintendo, they would only be selling games to Xbox console owners, when that's clearly not the case. There's no way Microsoft is ever gonna abandon PC ports, especially not when Project Helix straight-up supports PC games.
Worth noting that Microsoft themselves specifically mentions here that they want to make Xbox an affordable platform. I'm guessing that either means Project Helix will be cheaper than initially anticipated, or that Xbox Series consoles will still be supported into the next generation and offered as a cheaper alternative to next-gen.
@get2sammyb Tbh I kinda like that they're talking more frequently now, and that they gave us an idea of the plans they have in mind for Xbox. Phil Spencer and Sarah Bond became a lot more quiet in recent years, ever since the mass layoffs, studio closures, and PS5 ports started
@boco77 To some extent, I do agree, because the articles on Push Square aren't necessarily the most high-quality writing you've ever seen. However, at the same time, I think Push Square and the rest of the Hookshot sites are a bastion of sorts in a sea of content mill websites. That's not to say that there aren't other gaming websites with articles on par with Push Square, but sadly a lot of them just haven't gotten the traction they need to maintain an active community.
Thanks to Google's stupid algorithm, many companies that own gaming news websites are incentivized to throw everything to the wall to see what sticks, regardless of whether the content is actually good or not. This lack of quality contract isn't necessarily the fault of the writers, but rather the business execs that limit creative freedom and compel the writers to write in as algorithm-friendly a way as possible.
Push Square and the rest of the Hooksite sites are some of the few major gaming websites that don't try to desperately follow the algorithm's latest trends, and have stuck to a consistent formula. And, for that, I appreciate them.
@lacerz Yes, it definitely would be.
We can't have a future where there's only one platform holder. Xbox and PlayStation both need to remain healthy competitors
Isn't it funny that the Sony-developed baseball game is multiplatform, while the Konami-developed one is PS console exclusive? Shouldn't it be the other way around?
@GamerDad76 The Xbox One version of GTA Online generates almost as much weekly revenue ($918,000) as the PS4 version does ($973,000), despite having almost half the amount of players. The Xbox Series version of the game also generates around twice the amount of weekly revenue ($1,867,000) than the PS4 version does, despite having around 700,000 less weekly active players. So it seems that Xbox players spend a lot more money than PlayStation players, and the main reason why that's the case is because GTA is most popular in the US and the overwhelming majority of the money made through GTA Online comes from American players.
So, nah, I'm pretty sure GTA 6 will do very well on Xbox
These leaked statistics do reveal why Rockstar doesn't like putting their games on PC, though, because PC is, by far, the platform where GTA Online makes the least amount of money.
@UltimateOtaku91 I agree, a lot of these games weren't exactly the types of stuff that people would have bought an Xbox for to begin with, so it makes sense that they're not selling crazy well on PS5.
If there's one thing that Sony has continuously had an advantage over compared to Xbox, it's system-selling games. Ghost of Yotei, Intergalactic, and Wolverine are the types of games that can sell consoles on their own. Pentiment, Gears of War: Reloaded, The Outer Worlds 2, Avowed, South of Midnight, etc.? Not so much.
@johncalmc A) That's because Xbox didn't have many first-party games to begin with, when they were still exclusive. And most of them weren't particularly great, they didn't have a single system seller in the last decade. Microsoft is now actually releasing quality games on a regular basis, thanks to their acquisitions, but they're all multiplatform. B) Well, Sony is doing the same thing with PC, so why can't Xbox? Sony has put all of their major franchises, sans Gran Turismo, on PC, and they're still going to put live service titles and second-party singleplayer titles on the platform. How, then, can PC players trust Sony to stick to their word and not start putting their tentpole exclusives on PC again five years from now? Don't you think, instead of buying a PS5/6, a lot of these people will just wait for Ghost of Yotei, Intergalactic, Wolverine, etc. to come to PC again, despite the rumors suggesting otherwise?
@HerlockSholmes Not really? Take a look at most of the games that Microsoft has released on PS5 so far, and you'll see that most of them haven't exactly made "fortunes" on the platform.
As Dusk Falls, Pentiment, Hi-Fi Rush, Age of Empires 4, Age of Mythology: Retold, Hellblade 2, Avowed, South of Midnight, Doom: The Dark Ages, Gears of War: Reloaded, Ninja Gaiden 4, The Outer Worlds 2, and Towerborne all sold only okay at best on PlayStation. They weren't consistently in the top sellers on PlayStation as you're suggesting.
The only Microsoft games that have done pretty well on PlayStation are the live service games, like Forza Horizon 5, Microsoft Flight Simulator 2024, Sea of Thieves, and Age of Empires 2, along with the occasional singleplayer game such as Indiana Jones, Grounded, and (maybe) Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3+4.
Sony made a fortune from Helldivers 2 on PC, to the point that it sold more on Steam at launch than on PlayStation. That hasn't stopped Sony from pulling back on PC ports for first-party singleplayer titles, however. Likewise, just because a couple of Xbox games have done really well on PlayStation, doesn't mean Microsoft can't walk back their multiplatform strategy for some of their singleplayer titles.
@AdamNovice Even on Steam, which has arguably the most intricate search system out of all the major gaming storefronts, it's hard to actually find the type of games you're looking for unless you know their exact names
@SoulofBashar They've published indie-style games before, and from what I know, there hasn't been any instance in which they meddled with the games by shoving microtransactions or Ubisoft open world tropes into them.
The problem is, that people are so intent on hating Ubisoft that they forget these games even exist. Like, does anyone remember Transference, Hungry Shark World, Ode, Grow Up, The Rogue Prince of Persia, and Oddballers?
@Brundleflies21 Tbh that's largely because it looked goofy in older games, where all the characters are just a bunch of giant polygons clumped together. Made it seem more childish, especially with the way such subjects were handled in video games at the time. Sorta like making two action figures make out with each other
@Slideaway1983 I have no stake in any of these discussions here but, dude, if more people took the time to write comments as thoughtfully as you, the internet would be a better place imo
@Balaam_ Agreed, I think they fit their respective roles perfectly. And their voices are not too different to the point that they sound like completely separate characters
@KoopaTheGamer Also, yeah, I highly doubt that the majority of people buying Sony games on Steam are gonna rush out to get a $600 PS5, especially when the console is gonna become old news with the release of the PS6 in a few years.
One could argue that, unless those PC gamers decide to devote most of their hard-earned cash to the PlayStation Store, Sony would actually lose money from PS console sales, if those people only buy PS exclusives and don't bother spending money on any third-party games.
Yes, the money Sony made from PC wasn't a lot, but it's completely Sony's fault that their games haven't done that well on the platform. Virtually no marketing + full $60 prices for 2-3+ year old games is a perfect combination for failure. The only way Sony's singleplayer games will start doing really well is if they release them on PC the same day as PlayStation, but they clearly don't want to do that.
@KoopaTheGamer I actually agree. Given how ridiculously expensive PlayStation consoles are becoming, it makes a lot less sense for them to be moving away from PC and focusing only on consoles.
If the RAM shortage is still a thing several years from now, then that means the PS6 will almost certainly cost $900-$1000. If so, then I imagine it will be the worst-selling PlayStation home console of all time. If Sony intends to release games exclusively on PS6 (e.g. no PS5 ports), then they're basically gonna confine them to a very limited audience. Sony's PS6 exclusives may not sell very well, which is why not putting them on PC day-and-date would be a bad move, in my opinion.
Sony is kind of in a rock and a hard place here. Either they release games on both PS5 and PS6, so that they can maximize their sales, or they make their games exclusive to PS6, prohibiting them from having high sales. But if they don't release PS6 exclusives, then the PS6 will be nothing more than a glorified PS5 Pro Pro.
Interestingly, the pages for Marathon and Helldivers 2 both still explicitly mention that the games are available on Xbox, and they include links to the Microsoft Store. So I guess they're still okay with that
@MrPeanutbutterz To be fair, almost every prior gen console costs way less than a $900 PS5 Pro does. And they mostly support physical games right out of the gate, without the need for a disk drive sold separately
@naruball Unless it's attached to a super popular IP, a game needs to be good first in order to be a bit.
Anyone who thinks Concord, Dustborn, Highguard, etc. would have been successful if they had super hot gooner characters (like The First Descendant does) is kidding themselves
@ShadowRJ The Xbox marketing helps them reach an audience that Atlus has ignored for most of their existence. I primarily play on Xbox, and even though I was interested in them, I didn't play any Atlus games until Persona released on Xbox
Marketing with PlayStation or Nintendo would be kind of redundant because people on those platforms already knew that Atlus games would be available there (well, at least in PlayStation's case)
@AdamNovice Yeah I'm like 99% sure Firesprite is making Until Dawn 2. I could be misremembering, but wasn't there a job listing or insider report that claimed they were making a horror game? So, if that is true, then that only adds further credence the idea that they're making a sequel to Until Dawn.

Re: Fans Reckon PS Studios Website Adjustments Hint at Sony's Move Away from PC
Interestingly, the pages for Marathon and Helldivers 2 both still explicitly mention that the games are available on Xbox, and they include links to the Microsoft Store. So I guess they're still okay with that
Re: Assassin's Creed Unity's PS5 Patch Is Put to the Test, with Some Surprising Results
@MrPeanutbutterz To be fair, almost every prior gen console costs way less than a $900 PS5 Pro does. And they mostly support physical games right out of the gate, without the need for a disk drive sold separately
Re: 'Did Not Work': The First Descendant Considered a Failure by Its Developer
@naruball Unless it's attached to a super popular IP, a game needs to be good first in order to be a bit.
Anyone who thinks Concord, Dustborn, Highguard, etc. would have been successful if they had super hot gooner characters (like The First Descendant does) is kidding themselves
Re: Persona 6 Reveal Rumours Return, and Mega Xbox Showcase Is the Catalyst
@ShadowRJ The Xbox marketing helps them reach an audience that Atlus has ignored for most of their existence. I primarily play on Xbox, and even though I was interested in them, I didn't play any Atlus games until Persona released on Xbox
Marketing with PlayStation or Nintendo would be kind of redundant because people on those platforms already knew that Atlus games would be available there (well, at least in PlayStation's case)
Re: Sony Announces Gigantic PS5 Price Increases, Effective from April 2026
@carlos82 The PS6 won't be that much cheaper than Project Helix, as some people were claiming
Re: 'We're Only Talking About the PS5': Saros Director on Cancelled PC Port Reports
@LowDefAl It's funny because the head of Team Asobi talked about bringing Astro Bot to PC before the game even released, I think
Re: 'It Wasn't a Live Service Game': Shuttered Sony Studio Teases Scrapped PS5 Project
@CielloArc Funny enough, that's exactly what the Redfall devs said, after the game was released that is
Re: PlayStation's Disastrous First-Party Leadership Culminates in Yet Another Studio Closure
Bruh they really shut Jason Blundell's studio down twice. Safe to say he'll never work for PlayStation again
Re: Sublime PS4 Racer Will Be Delisted Due to Epic Layoffs Debacle
@get2sammyb Thank God, otherwise I was gonna download the game and make sure to never uninstall it
Re: Sony's Lost Breaking Bad PSVR Project Unearthed in New Report
@AdamNovice Yeah I'm like 99% sure Firesprite is making Until Dawn 2. I could be misremembering, but wasn't there a job listing or insider report that claimed they were making a horror game? So, if that is true, then that only adds further credence the idea that they're making a sequel to Until Dawn.
