@Oram77 I see what you're saying. It would be great if Sony were to keep the costs low, even if Xbox left the hardware business.
Although it may not seem like it, I think Sony is actually trying their best not to raise PS5 prices. They keep doing console revisions with cheaper internal parts, and they released that new PS5 with less internal storage, but they've still had to raise the PS5's prices consistently in order to keep the hardware business sustainable.
That, to me, suggests that the chances of the PS6 being affordable are pretty slim. Honestly, unless something changes, these ridiculous console prices will probably kill the traditional console industry as we know it. If the PS6 becomes the worst selling PlayStation home console, due to its presumably high price tag, the days of "console generations" will probably be numbered.
@SamMR Problem is, the overwhelming majority of Game Pass subscribers are on consoles, not PC and cloud. And Game Pass isn't growing on PC as fast as Microsoft would like it to. So, if they do cut consoles entirely, they would probably be saying goodbye to at least 60% of Game Pass users.
@Oram77 Personally, I don't think there's any way that the PS6 will be affordable, at least not in the usual sense. It will most likely be cheaper than the next Xbox, but given the state of the world right now, I can't feasibly see Sony selling a PS6 that's considerably more powerful than a PS5 Pro for less than $700.
If it does actually provide a generational leap in power, the PS6 will probably be $750 or $800 at launch, and there's a good chance that it will receive price increases later in the gen.
The only way Sony could sell the PS6 for $500-600 is if they are willing to lose hundreds of dollars on each console sold.
@get2sammyb Are you going to update the article with Jez's report? He says that, contrary to what SneakerSO said, Xbox hardware plans are not even "up in the air, and remain firmly Xbox's path forward. Xbox Series X|S hardware production has not ceased, and new stock will go out to retailers at its usual cadence." But plans can change.
Lina Khan was right, the ABK deal had terrible ramifications on Xbox, but she did a pretty bad job at trying to prove her point in court. She and the rest of the FTC spent most of their time arguing about how unfair the ABK deal was to PlayStation (it wasn't), not consumers.
Like many of the commenters on Push Square, Khan largely based her argument around how terrible it would be for Microsoft to make ABK games exclusive to Xbox (even though Xbox has a fraction of the exclusives that PlayStation does) and how Xbox would become a monopoly in the console market, rather than how damaging the price increases, layoffs, etc. would be to Xbox consumers.
Turns out people's biggest fear from the ABK deal didn't even happen. Instead, the exact opposite occurred.
Ironically the ppl who said Game Pass was killing developers because they made no money off their games should actually be thrilled about this news. If you thought playing a $60-70 Xbox first-party game for $15 was unsustainable, no worries, you can now pay $30 for the exact same thing and save less money than ever before!
@Dogbreath This is the first time I've heard that a platform can be dead or alive in two different ways. IMO, you're making this seem a lot more complicated than it actually is.
There is no such thing as something being a dead platform in one way, but not a dead platform in another way. Either it's a dead platform or a not-dead one lol.
I think you're confusing the weaknesses of a platform and its lower install base with the viability of the platform as a whole. Saying a platform is dead, all because it's not the lead platform for a timed exclusive release, is hyperbole at best, in my opinion.
The fact of the matter is, third-party support is currently better on Xbox than it has been in over a decade. If Sony is porting some of their old games to Xbox "just to milk a few final bucks out of them," then why didn't they do this during the 360 gen, when Xbox had a larger install base? If Xbox is on its last legs, wouldn't it make more sense for Sony to not support the platform at all and just let it die, so that they can convert the existing Xbox owners into PlayStation users?
Lastly, I don't think Forza Horizon 6, a new installment in a series that's done incredibly well on Xbox and PC alone for 2 decades, is going to be harmed much by releasing on PS5 a few months later. FH5 and Indiana Jones have proved that games will still sell well on PlayStation, even if they're late ports. Ironically, a day-one game like Doom: The Dark Ages seems to have sold worse on PS5 than either of those two titles. By doing a slightly staggered release with a highly-anticipated title like FH6, MS can get people to double-dip on both PS5 and Xbox/PC.
@Dogbreath If they can shift a few hundred thousand copies of an old game on Xbox, then that means Xbox isn't a dead platform. Simple as that.
If Xbox was dead, there would be no incentive for Sony to bring Helldivers 2 or any other game to Xbox whatsoever. No ifs, ands, or buts. Did you see Sony and Nintendo porting their games to the Dreamcast before Sega pulled the plug on it?
You can spin it as much as you'd like, by saying "well at least Sony isn't bringing their games to Xbox day-one!", but expect to see more first-party PlayStation titles on the "dead" platform known as Xbox in the future.
Also worth noting that more and more third-party developers, like Square Enix, are opting to release their games on Xbox day-one, rather than release it years later. Third-party support shouldn't be improving on a dead platform.
Honestly, this was an awful State of Play, in my opinion. Easily the worst they've done in a while. Aside from Wolverine and Saros, there was almost nothing I was interested in. Usually these State of Plays have some exciting third-party reveals, but here? They were practically non-existent.
The fact that Sony wasted time on FF Tactics, a game that's coming out in a few days, and showed us an update for GT7, as well as some speakers, proves that they were really just padding this State of Play out.
Dynasty Warriors 3 Remastered and Deus Ex Remastered were neat announcements, but most of the other games they showed, even if they looked good, were things we've seen a million times already. Like Crimson Desert and Battlefield 6.
@Weez They didn't say never, they just said it won't come anytime soon. Either way, if they aren't tied down by any exclusivity deals, it's a dumb decision on Koei Tecmo's part. Not to mention these games would also sell very well on Switch 2.
@Slayer25c It's not like you need to play Nioh 1 to understand what's going on in Nioh 2, or something. They're not story-heavy games.
And skipping the first few installments of a series on Xbox hasn't stopped companies like Capcom and Bandai Namco from putting Monster Hunter Stories 3 and Digimon Story: Time Stranger on Xbox, respectively.
Maybe Sony does have a timed exclusivity deal for Nioh 3, but they haven't really advertised it or something. Who knows.
@Weez It's weird that Nioh 3 isn't coming to Xbox, considering that Sony hasn't said anything about an exclusivity deal for the game. Since Sony isn't publishing it, there is no good reason for this game to be PS exclusive.
If skipping Xbox is a decision that Koei Tecmo made of its own volition (and not because of any exclusivity deals), then it's even more baffling that they think Fatal Frame 2 remake will sell on Xbox, but not Nioh 3.
What's crazy is that the Red Light Raid multiplayer mode won't be available at launch on PS5, Xbox, and PC, even though it was featured in the Switch 2 version months ago. You have to wait extra to play it on those platforms.
If there's one thing you have to give Ubisoft credit for, it's that they at least don't abandon most of their games immediately, even if they don't perform so well at launch (aside from XDefiant lol). Avatar underperformed commercially, according to them, but they're still supporting it to this day.
@Oram77 It already has, though? I don't know about you, but Death Stranding 2 has great gameplay imo. And there are countless games that looked cutting-edge for their time and also had great gameplay. Case in point, something like DMC 5 or RDR2.

I played Shadow of the Colossus after finishing The Last Guardian, and I found that to be a lot more entertaining.
@get2sammyb I don't think Kojima ever said that OD is meant to be a smaller project lol. The game is literally being made with an "Avengers-level" group of directors, so I think it's safe to safe both it and Physint are of a similar scope.
@RoomWithaMoose Agreed. If you want to hear good English dubs in video games, look no further than the recent Persona titles. Sure, some people may still prefer the original Japanese voice acting, but it's hard to say that the English dubs in games like Persona 5 are bad or mediocre.
@Rich33 Not really. If one aspect of the game is bad, that doesn't mean the entire game is awful. To use my prior example, most people would still think that Clair Obscur is an amazing game, even if it ran poorly.
I'm personally more tolerant of performance issues than others, so maybe that factors into my opinion, but the only way I would give a game a 6 or lower solely due to performance issues, is if it was literally unplayable. And I mean, LITERALLY. Like, the game can't boot or anything, or if it constantly crashes. A good example of that would be something like the launch version of Cyberpunk 2077. Most games, even ones with performance issues like Borderlands 4, don't launch in as nearly as bad a state as that one.
If everyone was as critical as you when it comes to performance woes, then there would be a lot of legitimately good games that have abysmal ratings on Metacritic, all because of some technical problems that they suffered at launch. And, to make matters worse, most outlets wouldn't change their reviews even if the games were improved. So it would be harder than usual to sort through good and bad games.
@Rich33 I think it would make zero sense for a game to get a terrible review score solely because of bad performance.
If Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 ran like crap, and every major outlet gave it a 6/10 or lower score because of that, then the reviews for the game would be misleading, since they'd give the impression that it sucks. When, in fact, it does not.
Yes, you should dock some points from a game if it suffers from performance issues, but you shouldn't give it an awful rating solely due to that. If a game is amazing, it still deserves to get a good score, even if it runs poorly.
@dskatter Even if they released them, it would be literally impossible for either of the modern Flight Sim games to be playable offline from a physical disc. The games rely entirely on using the internet to stream data from online world maps.
@PuppetMaster The Kurohyo/Black Panther games are definitely most deserving of a Kiwami remake, since they're very different from the rest of the series gameplay-wise. They're basically Fight Night games, but with a Yakuza coat of paint.
Black Panther 1 and 2 are both very similar, so I think it would be best to bundle them together and give them fully rendered 3D cutscenes instead of manga-style slideshows like in the originals.
@Yozora146_ They don't outright state that it's releasing simultaneously on Xbox and Switch 2, but it's very heavily implied in one of the other statements they made on the official Square Enix website.
Here's a snippet from a recent Square Enix article on the news:
"Another common question about the game is whether the entire FINAL FANTASY VII remake trilogy is coming to Switch 2 and Xbox. We can confirm that yes they are - we’ll have more information about FINAL FANTASY VII REBIRTH and the in-development third game in the future."
@masofdas Not really, in 2016-2018, the install base on Xbox One was roughly the same as the current install base on Xbox Series X/S, as well as the remaining Xbox One players.
@PuppetMaster Maybe it didn't need a remake, sure, but it at least needs to be brought to modern platforms. I don't know about you, but not everyone has been playing video games for 20+ years. There's a lot of people who are new to video games and there are some, like me, who only got really invested in the hobby during the late Xbox 360/PS3 generation. I missed out on a lot of the games from the PS1/2 era and prior, so I'm happy that we're getting these old games on modern platforms.
@UltimateOtaku91 It doesn't matter that it was only 9%, though. It still sold more than a million copies on Xbox One alone in just two years, which is seemingly more than what it sold on PC (granted, the PC port came out a year later). Square would be crazy not to get the Final Fantasy fanbase back to that level on Xbox again.

@SeaDaVie People in Japan just prefer buying stuff on Nintendo consoles for some reason.
Re: Final Fantasy 7 Remake Trilogy's Conclusion Will Not Be PS5 Exclusive
@SeaDaVie Most people in Japan, even those who own a PS5, will likely prefer buying FF7 Remake Part 3 on Switch 2 instead.

The titles are pretty easy to understand if you know the names of the games that they're referring to. If not, then they may sound really weird.
