We’ve been lucky enough to get our hands on the Marathon Collector’s Edition (courtesy of Bungie) ahead of the game’s launch on PS5 on 5th March.
Bungie’s upcoming extraction shooter is easily one of the most stylish-looking games of 2026. Whether it's the design of the maps on Tau Ceti IV, or the ever-impressive cinematics, Marathon has got some visual flair about it.

Thankfully, that continues to be the case with the Collector’s Edition, which has got to be one of the prettiest we’ve ever seen.
You’re treated to premium hexagon packaging, complete with a sleeved cover and a lenticular poster. It’s adorned in the Marathon branding, and the printing of the runners in the game — synthetic prints controlled by uploaded consciousnesses.

We loved that taking one layer off basically leaves a whole other appreciation for the images and design. We don’t think we’ve ever taken our time opening one of these boxes quite as we did with this one.
The lenticular poster itself brings us back to the good old days of physical games. This particular writer still remembers trying to hold onto the lenticular sleeve of Batman: Arkham City when trading the game in at a local game shop (unsuccessfully).
But of course, the real juice is inside. We start with six art postcards, showcasing profiles for some of the runner types that will feature in the game, like the Thief, Assassin, and Destroyer.
Then we have two small collectables: a miniature silkworm, the Sekiguchi printing worms that make the runners in the lore, and an iron-on embroidered patch.

Lastly, we have a 1/6th-scale statue of the Thief, complete with LED Lights. We love the design of the runner, but it's the dead rival runner and gun under the water that really sells the whole thing.
We are a little disappointed that the collector's edition does not include a physical copy of the game, although we aren't too surprised. If ordered online, a download code will be emailed out, and there is also a codeless version of the Collector's Edition that comes in at a lower price if you're only interested in the statue and collectables.
While that will likely ruffle some feathers, Bungie certainly knows how to make a nice collector’s edition.
What do you think of the Marathon Collector’s Edition and its showcase of the game’s art design? Let us know in the comments below.

I don't think you turned the model around enough times
Gotta convince the saps to buy this crap somehow. Collector’s edition that doesn’t even come with the game. You can’t make this up
There are so many things I want to say, but I’ll just say, “Wish we’d have gotten something like this back in the day for the real Marathon trilogy,” and leave it at that.
At least you guys got it for free and didn’t have to pay for it. I hope ethics will keep this from affecting your review score when the time comes!
On a long list of things that are a complete waste of money, buying a collectors edition of the latest live service online multiplayer shooter has gotta be pretty high up there.
I do really like how the water looks on the statue and the art on the box is pretty good.
@AaronBayne
Being only a little disappointed that no disc is included, but not too surprised. The sad testament of years of bad business practices from Sony, and many people just swallowed it.
Glad it's good quality, but... It should be. I'm assuming this will be around $199? In no world should someone pay that much and it be ***** quality.
And it doesn't come with the physical game, which is bananas. Not news these days, I know, but stupid nonetheless.
Why Sony stopped including physical copies with their collectors editions is beyond me. You would expect to at least have that if you're paying so much money.
Did I time travel or something? I swear we already had an article about this deluxe edition.
It looks very nice. If I had a game room where I could keep collectibles it would be a nice addition, which is probably the market they are mainly appealing to.
@DreadfulDragon Heh, you know why.
Why do people even click and comment on these articles if they have no interest in the game or anything related to say about the game.
Neat, but nobody wants this nor the game. Sonys love service push will go down in history as an entire generation of hundreds of millions down the drain, and mismanaged studios and talent almost across the board.
It's not for me, neither is the game but it's hard not to appreciate the extra dimension the water adds. I haven't seen any other collectors editions do that.
To think they have that type of talent and yet needed to steal art for the game. I don’t think this game is as DOA as it was, but not sure it last a full calendar year with a strong player count.
Ridiculous this stuff is a thing ppl buy
@DreadfulDragon Or maybe we just like the game?
Yeah it looks nice. But a CE price at 270 bones that doesn't come with physical copy + steelbook? That's a tough pill to swallowed, unless you got it free from the publisher.
It still weird though that Sony stop including physical copy for their CE. Feels as if Sony pushed collectors to buy two editions, standard + CE, if they want a physical copy which is a very scummy practice...
The shilling for marathon is getting a little obvious don’t you think.
Collector's Editions are pretty just like they're pretty expensive. The name Marathon is odd because I'm not thinking of this new extraction shooter, but a Snickers.
@UltimateOtaku91 because sony keeps investing money in these games and people don't want them to invest money in these games
No game, but a dust collector. Perfect landfill material!
Without a physical copy of the game included is absolutely batsh*t insane. Paying for the privilege of tat. I somehow was unaware that this was a practice and it’s the stupidest thing I’ve ever heard of. That’s like ordering a sandwich and having a bit of cheese, some ham and a dollop of mayonnaise dumped on your lap, with a voucher for a loaf of bread in Tesco included.
@nessisonett some versions come without the loaf of bread voucher. I’m sure it’s not designed to trick people?!
The schilling must go on.
I wonder if any JoUrNaLiSt blogger ever feels shame when schilling for a product that has 80-90% chances of being a flop and 10-20% chance of being okay enough to run for a year or two, before inevitably crashing.
@saffeqwe Says who, the most played games on Playstation are these types of games. One of the game of year contenders last year was one of these types of games.
Wildly excessive collector's edition for what is basically the gaming equivalent of a Dairylea Dunker but hey I gotta applaud it. Looks really cool. Would look nice on a shelf. But I don't have shelves. And I don't play live service shooters. And I'm disinclined to spend 200 notes on this. So for those reasons, I'm out.
Title of article seems hyperbolic. i've seen better.
Good that there is some positivity about this game. The dread in gaming news is tiresome.
of course it isn't, lol
Crimson Desert completely blows it out of the water.
For me I'd say Metro Exodus Artyom Edition is the best CE to date.
The led lighting seemed underwhelming compared to the dramatic the music transition. Should have turned off the room lights before showing that feature.
Throw it in the trash, where it belongs.
But no disc. lol. Crapathon.
What ever floats your boat, fools and their money
@UltimateOtaku91 "why are people who are not interested in the game commenting here?"
"Because they don't want Sony to invest money in this"
"Says who? That's the most popular genre"
Please make sense
I look forward to buying the statue once it's like £40 on ebay.
