SOL Shogunate has just been announced for PS5, and it looks like the most video game-y video game you could hope to see.
In development at independent studio Chaos Manufacturing, the game is a single player sci-fi action RPG all about samurai in space:
The game is set in an alternate future in which humanity has spread across various planets, all under the rule of a powerful Shogunate.
You play as Yuzuki, who was once part of a powerful samurai family that was massacred by a rival clan. She becomes a ronin seeking justice for what's happened.

It seems the moon will be a major location for the game, with several large cityscapes to explore. "Regular" gravity is in place in these public places, but it looks like the game will toy with differing gravity as you move through different environments.
As written on the PS Blog, SOL Shogunate's combat "emphasises precision, timing, and adaptability". You're playing as a genetically modified ronin, so it seems we can expect a combination of classic weaponry and techniques with sci-fi augmentations and gadgets.
"Players can channel various types of energy into attacks to expose weaknesses, stagger foes, and create new tactical opportunities. As her abilities grow, and her enhancements evolve, new techniques shift how battles flow and how players overcome increasingly dangerous enemies."
Another area the game focuses on is music; a goal is to pair big action sequences and fights with "awesome" tracks that elevate the experience.
The team is working alongside artists such as Japanese band AliA to create a bunch of original music.
It looks very promising from where we're sitting. Unfortunately there's no date in place for the game, but fingers crossed it isn't too far away.

Appears risky, and I like it just for that already.
Samurai in space?!
Love it!
Hope it's a 2026 game.
You can ride a horse on the moon as a samurai-cyborg, of course I’m down for it. That said, I can’t place my finger on it, but something seems quite AI about it all - maybe the look or ideas, something seems off.
Wait that plot line seems way too familiar and abit too soon ? , the character being hot might also just be the biggest screw you lmao
The game looks very good, though the one thing that concerns me is the musical aspect. I did not particularly care for the music that featured towards the end of the video, and if that is a taste of what we can expect (and you are unable to turn it off) then it maybe that the game loses some of its appeal for me. Time will tell, I guess. It all depends on how integral the music is to the gameplay...
Well this just shot to the top of my anticipated games list! This looks awesome, more of this please!
This game has an appealing aesthetic from the trailer. I’ll keep it on my radar.
