As the PS5 turns five years old today, there's an increasing interest in what comes next from Sony. PS6 rumours have been rife over the past 12 months, and they all point to a more modest next-gen console with a portable device to go along with it.

Sony isn't saying anything publicly just yet; in fact, it's doubling down on the current range of PS5s. In a new interview with the BBC, senior vice president Eric Lempel said that, five years into the generation, "we're really hitting our stride now". Lempel points to "a lot of great content" it has in store for PS5, so Sony will simply "continue with PS5".

As for what that content could be, Lempel remains tight-lipped. However, he does let one thing slip: he doesn't think the console's biggest game has even released yet. "I'm not going to tell you which one, but I think it's still to come," Lempel teased.

The most obvious candidate here would be GTA 6. The release from Rockstar is tipped to be the biggest entertainment launch in history, and is following up on one of the best-selling video games ever.

The tease becomes a lot more interesting if Lempel is thinking closer to home, in terms of the biggest game from first-party developers for PS5. Marvel's Wolverine and Intergalactic are two confirmed titles from PlayStation Studios, but you'd think there are still some unannounced projects left for PS5, before the PS6 arrives.

As for when that will happen, speculation points to a 2027 launch. It'll supposedly come with a handheld device that follows up on the surprisingly successful PS Portal. Lempel says the remote play device "exceeded our expectations" and is "performing really well".
