@kyleforrester87 I can't play it on PlayStation any more. Its PC with the cutscene skipper and 4x speed or nothing.
And i say that as someone who is clearly a fan of the game given my picture. But those unskippable cutscenes and long ass grinding sections have had their day.

Tbh, I do not think we have heard the last of this debate from Sony either. They were clearly very keen to port their exclusives only a few months ago. Is it really all that impossible that this time next year they'll be thinking about it again?

Maybe i was too spoiled by the days when graphics noticeably improved which each console, but I just cannot see the difference.

@trev666 Meh. Maybe that was true ten years ago but nowadays we have something called livestreams. Agendas and other people's fake opinions are very easy to see through now that I can see all that a game has to offer without spending a single penny on it.

@trev666 A lot of it was expectations being set too high. When you market a game "from the creator of every GTA game that you've ever loved" do not be surprised if people expect a GTA level experience.

Angry Joe's review really does mirror a lot of people's experiences with this game: plenty of boring empty nothing, plenty of bugs, plenty of random fail states.

The longer this goes on, the more I find myself backing Rockstar firing Leslie Benzies.

@Bramble PS6 will probably be diminishing returns as well lets be honest. Sorry to be Debbie Downer on it, but we all know that it'll be cross platform with the PS5 for half of its life cycle.

@AnginaPectoris In Greek mythology Ares represented raw violence and power whereas Athena represented strategy and military discipline. They were yin and yang, offence vs defence.

Thing is, that works because they belong to the same pantheon. Once you start trying to make out that all religions are real it starts getting convoluted. Marvel and DC in particular suffers greatly from this problem.

Having multiple mythologies is confusing if handled incorrectly. How realistically do you have two gods of war or two gods of the sea operating simultaneously? Does one take care of the Atlantic and the other the Pacific?

@nomither6 PS3 games still look incredible today, especially on a decent TV. Lets not forget that GTA5 is a PS3 game.

No open world sandbox is ever going to match GTA. Rockstar have had thirty years to perfect their formula.
There is no excuse for "jank" but people need to tone down their expectations and take the game for what it is.

I'm reminded of that episode of The Simpsons where Moe wins a competition to be the face of a calendar - and the people running it did not want to put his face on it because he is too ugly.
I feel as if that is going to be the same here.

@MrSensical The downfall of Bethesda is not due to a lack of talent as you say. Fallout 3 and 4 are packed to the brim with content.
The problem is their willfull neglect when it comes to innovation. How frigging long did they stick with that ageing engine? There are so many games now that play better, look better and deliver better.

I feel like some people in this comment section need reminding that 5/10 is not a bad score. It means that the game is average. Generic. Run-of-the-mill. A rental.

Only on IGN does average begin at 7/10.

Graphics no longer interest me. They are already good enough. Three more blades of grass in "super duper whopper resolution" is not going to impress me. Especially as it'll probably just bump the cost up even more.

Both the film and gaming industry alike suffered from massive short-sightedness during the pandemic. Instead of saving all of this money they were suddenly getting to weather the obvious post-pandemic collapse they wasted it on crap. They seemed to assume that "the new normal" would stick around forever.

@Yousef- Not really. The PS3 was £700/$900 at launch adjusted for inflation. We've been here before.

Says a lot that he quit/lost his job just after the disastrous launch of the PS3.
And before anyone calls me too harsh for saying that, adjusted for inflation, the PS3 was $930 at launch. That puts it above the PS5 Pro. This was nothing more than greed and hubris.

FFX remake first please. Best game in the series but it has aged badly in a number of places.

If the series ended with the first game it would have gone down in history as one of the greats. But they had to keep on chasing that dollar and have seriously harmed their own legacy in doing so.
As with films like The Matrix, Jaws or Jurassic Park, you really are better off headcanoning away the sequels and sticking with the original imo.

@Donrenardo The irony is, if "generic action man" was a guaranteed seller, Mindseye would have been a hit. That is the most generic action man i've seen for a long time.
I also suspect that companies care more about money than they do about literally anything else. They would choose "generic action man" every time if it guaranteed them Scrooge McDuck money

I will not pay 80 quid for a game.
I simply cannot justify it. I have petrol, groceries, rent, family, other hobbies besides this one.
The industry will die if that becomes the norm mark my words.

@kcarnes9051 If Avengers Doomsday costs $500 million, then it needs to make a billion to break even and 1.5 billion to make enough of a profit to have made the whole endeavour worthwhile.
That sounds pretty unsustainable to me.

We are in the second video game crash. Just because it doesn't look like the first one does not mean that we are not in one. I believe the official total is around 45% total layoffs across the industry these past few years.

@nessisonett That's why I say that i could not care less about graphics any more. We've reached the point where they are already good enough.
Give me performance, story, plenty of things to do.

I have no evidence for this beyond the anecdotal, but kids seem prefer quicker games to adults. Long form games that require a hundred plus hours of commitment seems to be an oldie thing.
This has been a problem noticed by MMO players for a long time.
