SanDisk has unveiled a new range of PS5-compatible SSDs, and the prices are eye-opening to say the least. If you want to go all the way and store more than just a Call of Duty title or two on your console, then the 8TB version will cost you a whopping $2,960.

This is the new Optimus GX Pro range of solid-state drives, of which the 850p model is compatible with base PS5 and PS5 Pro consoles. It promises "worry-free installation" following official testing and licensing, but the prices are tough to stomach.

Across the four versions of varying storage sizes, the prices of the new SSDs are:

1TB
$379.99
2TB
$759.99
4TB
$1,499.99
8TB
$2,959.99

Incredibly, the firm is actually advertising these as discounted prices. On the website, the full cost of the 8TB model is crossed out, which was $3,699.99.

PS5 SSD $3,000 2

Of course, the current and ongoing crisis surrounding PC components is having a significant effect here. PC Part Picker (via VGC) highlights how these prices represent a 370% increase on prices for near identical SSDs from less than a year ago.

Dramatic price rises have impacted all video game consoles, with the base PS5 and PS5 Pro models from Sony now costing more than ever. The Xbox Series X|S systems have also gone up, and Nintendo has plans for a Switch 2 price rise too.
