Live Service MMO Horizon Steel Frontiers Delayed Until 2027 1

Controversial live service MMO Horizon Steel Frontiers, which is being developed by Korean outfit NCSoft, will not launch in 2026 as originally intended.

The game – set in Guerilla’s post-apocalyptic world – will now debut in the first half of 2027, per the firm’s latest investor relations report.

The snippet was spotted by WCCFTech, and doesn’t clarify whether that launch window will apply to Korea specifically or global markets. I’d expect this game to launch in Asia first, before eventually rolling out worldwide if it meets expectations.

This project has been in development for years, although it was only officially acknowledged in November 2025. While it will also be available on PC, it’ll be running through NCSoft’s proprietary mobile emulator, Purple.

The organisation has acknowledged requests for a PS5 port, but I’m sceptical of whether that’ll ever happen personally. Like many of Sony’s mobile projects, it’s treating this title strangely.

The game does sound cool, though, and arguably closer to what fans may have wanted from a multiplayer Horizon game than Guerrilla’s own Hunters Gathering.

It’s set within a new location named the Deadlands, which is inspired by real-life places like Arizona and Mexico. The art style looks familiar, but it’s also got that Korean flavour to it, which I actually think will help it to resonate in Asia, where this title is likely to find its biggest success.

If the game does release in the first half of 2027 as intended, then we should start seeing a lot more gameplay soon, especially at Asian conventions like G-Star. I’m fascinated to see how it’s received, and what kind of approach Sony takes with it.
