Update #2 []: We can now say with certainty there’ll be no GTA 6 Trailer 3 on 12th May.
This always seemed like a long shot based on the “evidence”, as we outlined in our original article below.
Fans were theorising about things like Take-Two’s financials taking place in nine days, because Trailer 2 arrived nine days before the publisher’s quarterly report last year.
And the fact there’s currently no PS Store sale, which is unusual, but completely unrelated. If Sony was making space for GTA 6 pre-orders then why has it announced a sale for 13th May? Will people stop pre-ordering after one day?
Of course, the biggest kicker was the Game Informer cover reveal, which turned out to be The Blood of Dawnwalker. The magazine has received a lot of unwarranted hate for that, which seems a bit unfair, as it never promised anything.
As we’ve repeated multiple times now, a new GTA 6 trailer is coming – the game’s due out in about six months, and Take-Two’s already said the marketing will start this summer.
Any day now.
Update #1 []: Well, folks – today is the day.
Fans have tied themselves into pretzels expecting a GTA 6 trailer today, 12th May – but there’s no actual guarantee Rockstar has anything planned at all.
As we outlined in the original article below, the evidence is shaky and circumstantial; there are no real patterns that make this a guarantee.
Nevertheless, fans really are expecting to see new footage of the game today, and we’ll be keeping a close eye on all of Rockstar’s socials to see if it responds.
Our guess? Nothing is going to happen – but we do suspect GTA 6 updates are imminent now, so it’s only a matter of time.
Original Story: Can you believe it’s been over a year since GTA 6’s last trailer?
Rockstar marches to the beat of its own drum, of course, and it doesn’t need to follow conventional marketing patterns. But a year with no real new information is unique – especially as the game was originally due out this month, on 26th May.
Now it’ll arrive on 19th November, of course, and Sony’s been encouraging PS4 players to upgrade their consoles in preparation.
We know from recent leaks that PS4 is the second most popular platform for current game GTA 5 – specifically its GTA Online mode – and so it makes sense it’d be eager to get fans to upgrade. We know PlayStation likely has a marketing deal with the new title, too.
But in absence of any new information, fans are going stir crazy expecting new information next week, on 12th May.
Here’s why:
- Rockstar said GTA 6’s marketing cycle would start this summer, and while that season doesn’t officially get underway until June, we’re there or thereabouts, aren’t we?
- Take-Two’s next earnings call takes place on 21st May, and Trailer 2 for GTA 6 dropped nine days before its earnings call in 2025. There’s not enough evidence for a pattern here in our opinion, but 12th May is indeed nine days before 21st May.
- There are no deals on the PS Store right now, with the next sale planned to begin on 13th May. Some fans believe Sony’s leaving an open slot on 12th May in anticipation for pre-orders getting underway.
- The next issue of Game Informer will be released digitally on 12th May, with its cover likely to be revealed on the same day. Some fans believe it could feature GTA 6.
Personally, we reckon a lot of this is a stretch – what does the PS Store’s lack of deals really have to do with GTA 6? – but Rockstar’s going to have to drop a new trailer at some point, and it must be coming soon.
We’re not really buying the 12th May rumour specifically, but we reckon we will see more of Rockstar’s latest over the next month or so.
