Re: CD Projekt Red Confirms Ciri Recast for The Witcher 4 on PS5

LifeGirl

@DonJorginho I repeatedly use the same three female protagonists as examples because everyone knows them at a glance. Otherwise I will have to sit here and explain to you who Meg, Jo, Beth and Amy are.

There are scores of beloved female characters. Just because a few loud bigots on Twitter say otherwise does not invalidate anything.

Re: CD Projekt Red Confirms Ciri Recast for The Witcher 4 on PS5

LifeGirl

@DonJorginho If that's true then how do you account for the ridiculous success of Ripley or Sarah Connor or Lara Croft?

The suggestion that female protagonists are disliked is cope to disguise legitimate fan backlash. As ChimpMasta said, people go into these shows or games for a particular character and then leave when that character leaves. It is not rocket science no matter how many people try to claim that this is some layered concept.

Re: Poll: Are You Happy with Your PS Plus Extra, Premium Games for December 2024?

Very interesting numbers for Forspoken. It indicates that not many on here ever actually bought it and yet nevertheless seem enthusiastic about playing it.

Very few games have been so catastrophically damaged by a trailer as this one was. If only they dialled down Frey's mouth we could have been saying some very different things about this game right now.

Re: Sony Pictures Seemingly Done with Terrible Spider-Man Spin-Off Flicks

LifeGirl

@FlatwellSequoia The reason for that contract is that Marvel nearly went bankrupt crashing the comic book industry in the 1990s and they needed urgent money. This is also in part what led to the Disney buy out.

I hope Sony never gives up the Spider-Man ip because i have not yet forgiven Marvel for their part in the speculator boom. Gordon Gekko would have been proud of how greedy they were in the run up to that. The Youtuber SFDebris has a great video series on it if you want to know more.

It just kind of amuses me that in the week we are celebrating PlayStation's 30th birthday, we have an article telling you how to make your old games look nicer instead of all of the brand new treats we can look forward to.

Re: Gamers Are Reportedly More Interested in Watching Games Than Actually Playing Them

LifeGirl

I was around on the Something Awful forums when Let's Plays were invented so I feel qualified to say why people love them.

It is the communal evolution of the 4 player couch co-op. And no, I disagree that online multilayer fits this description because half of the players you meet online are nobs, lets be honest about this. But with a Let's Play, there is a massive enjoyment you get put of being part of someone else's game, particularly if it is their first time. They probably account for a lot of my entertainment on a weekly basis.

Re: Best PS1 Games

Having played Tekken 2 on PSN recently I have to say that Tekken 3 is easily the superior game.
Tekken 2 is super effing hard even on Normal mode. I am almost certain the computer must be reading your inputs and you can lose your whole health bar to a single kick. You spend so long on the floor after getting hit too.

Re: Best PS1 Games

Wipeout 2097 was always my personal fave too. Wipeout 3 was a very good game, but I dunno, it was a bit like Return of the Jedi trying to live up to the Empire Strikes Back.

Better soundtrack, better hud, a more striking visual tone. It just had that edge for me.

"Originally announced as a CD-based extension for the Super Nintendo, the biggest betrayal in gaming history led to one of the greatest consumer electronics brands of all time."

It has been revealed in recent years that SEGA turned it down too. Anyway, we sure lucked out there. Nintendo wouldn't have gone for half of the games that Sony did.

Re: When Is The Game Awards 2024?

LifeGirl

@wildcat_kickz I guarantee you that was the reason for the rule change, i'm afraid.

Don't worry about the precedent though. Prizes by committee are the most meaningless of all prizes as they are just the opinion of a ridiculously small minority as opposed to the overwhelming majority.

@nessisonett I have never been more creeped out than when Disney brought back Peter Cushing for Rogue One and it has only gotten worse since.

Welcome to our brave new AI future. Unfortunately, contrary to what they would have you believe, the actors guild strikes were a total failure. They achieved only the most basic protections against this sort of identity theft.

Re: Poll: Rate Your Favourite PS1 Games

LifeGirl

I rated the games that I played on it fairly and i tried to do so without nostalgia. As I discovered recently with the MGS Master Collection, a lot of these games are best left in my memories.

Re: Remedy Is Aiming for Excellence with Max Payne Remake

LifeGirl

These games were very of their time in both story and gameplay. The fashion, the bullet time, the attitudes, the tone, the feel, the minimalist graphics, the length.

I would have preferred a remaster to a remake. I am not convinced that any modern dev will do what it was justice. It'll be a very different game, for better, for worse.

Re: Star Wars Outlaws PS5 Does Away with Forced Stealth in Major Update

LifeGirl

@DonJorginho It was allowed to release the way it was because too many gamers have no standards.

The devs know, provably so with multiple examples, that they are rarely punished by releasing crap. Such games are now greeted with an expectant sigh rather than outrage.

I will never buy No Man's Sky, Fallout 76 or Cyberpunk. Yes I know that I am missing out on great games but that is my personal moral standard. I will not give you money if you think so little of me. And if everyone followed suit, suddenly, miraculously, we would start getting good games again.

Re: Shenmue 3 Publishing Rights Passed to ININ on Fifth Anniversary

LifeGirl

I have long since come to the conclusion that the Shenmue franchise has a very loud but actually very small fanbase. That is why despite the fanfare of its launch the third game went on to incredibly disappointing sales and ended up in obscurity soon after.

I just cannot recommend Shenmue 3. Not only does it end up with a cliffhanger that might never be resolved, but it's gameplay just has not moved on in twenty years barring the graphics. Still the same stilted dialogue, still the same long stretches of nothing happening, still a very stop-start story. And worse, they even managed to bugger some things up such as adding stamina mechanics and simplifying the combat.

Do yourself a favour and just buy Yakuza. Shenmue walked so it could run.
