From where I am sitting, Sony was determined to butcher each and every one of their IPs in the misguided hope that at least one of them would show a return on the live service gravy train.
I wonder what we are at now? A 90/10 failure rate? Must be 80/20 at least.
These corporations act like there is some mysterious arcane formula for success in the gaming industry today, and yet the likes of Astro Bot routinely comes along and proves that the actual answer is "just make better games".
I would rather play the second Tomb Raider trilogy than any of the modern games. I'm so sick of the overly-emotional Lara we've been getting these past few years.
I feel like we've actually gone backwards rather than forwards. How is it that the original Lara was more of a girlboss than this one is?
Mobile is where it is at nowadays. Nintendo keeps on going because it is Nintendo. But it would be a big risk to release a standalone handheld for anyone else today.
A PS6 Steam Deck is the furthest they will - and should - go.
"Get good". I'm sorry, but that is what it comes down to. Put in the effort to practice, build your character, absorb the meta if you need to. For some of us, that adrenaline spike from the struggle is the fun, not having the win handed to us on a plate. Plenty of low effort looter shooters out there for you if you want that.
"It's a surprising statistic, as we would have thought the impetus of the IP itself would have accounted for more copies sold".
That's just it though. Despite common opinion there is actually a step below hate and that is apathy. Star Wars is a damaged brand to the point a lot of people just collectively went "meh" and moved on. The hype for this game away from sites such as these was tepid to say the least.
Planning DLC before launch immediately puts my back up. A lot of the time it is stuff that they cut out of the finished product just to sell back to you.
@HonestHick No corporation is an ally of any social cause. All they care about is cold hard cash. See for example how Disney treats LBGT issues when it releases something in Saudi Arabia.
Another Tuesday at Ubisoft. They make the BBC look good. If you've ever wondered why so many people are cheering the possibility of them collapsing, here you go.
I've never disagreed with a review more than PushSquare's 7/10 for Suicide Squad except for perhaps it's Concord review.
Repetitive gameplay, horrible dialogue, characters constantly holding the idiot ball, bugs galore and what is quite simply nothing less than spiteful treatment of several beloved characters.
I hold no ill-will towards those who were just doing their jobs. But I have no sympathy whatsoever for the people who were actually pulling the strings.
@get2sammyb Fair enough. But I remember a time when kids were getting mugged for Pokemon cards and Pikachu toys were causing fights between parents in supermarkets. Anime around 1998 was insane.
We live in a society built on too many subscriptions and not enough money. Customers will pick the best and leave the rest. Amazon Prime for example bundles in about seven different things for actually a very reasonable price. PS Premium though? Eh...
It's kind of funny really because there was a point where he hated his clown image and was trying to branch out as a ''serious'' actor. And in fairness he did make some gems during this period. The Truman Show in my opinion is a very underrated film.
He also had such a negative experience on the few sequels that he did do that he swore off those as well.
And now here he is: As Dr ''Ace Ventura'' Robotnik coming back for a fourth Sonic film. Time and money heals all wounds lol.
I'm sorry to be the buzzkill here, but that word count limit is extreme for 2025. That is only ten words more than the original word count limit on Twitter. What for example is the advantage of submitting a letter to your mailbox as opposed to just starting a thread over on the forum?
I get that this is inspired by the gaming magazines of yore - I have good memories of them too - but that's the past. I'm struggling to see what this really adds to now.
The selling point of consoles is that they are simpler and cheaper than a gaming PC.
The PS5 Pro is a specialist console and thus supposedly warrants the huge price tag - fine. Fair enough. But my prediction is that if the PS6 matches that price point it'll suffer. Especially in the era of cross-platform.
Let me just cut to the chase here: I want MGS4, the FFXIII trilogy, and GTA4.
There are people reading this right now who were not born when those games came out. The fact that they haven't been able to play them legitimately/legally yet is madness.
Why do people eat McDonalds? Is it because McDonalds is good food? Some might think so. But the main reason is because it is comfortable, safe, nostalgic. Everyone knows exactly what they are getting when they buy a Big Mac. The experience is exactly the same every single time.
And it is the same with long-running videogames. It is not actually enough just to create an awesome game because a significant number of people will literally only play one or two games forever. This is one of the main problems with PS Plus and Gamepass as well.
TL;DR the prospective market from Fortnite or COD isn't actually as big as it looks because many of these players will never make the switch for any reason.
I haven't played Tekken 8 yet, but judging by that screenshot, it's customisation options haven't changed much. In fact, they haven't changed much since Tekken 6.
Seriously, the same floating fish, the same ninja weapon accessories, the same loin cloth. Even the UI is largely identical. Namco puts in such minimal effort into character customisation.
@BeerMonster ''Not on any other news website I've ever seen, but ok then.''
That's because editorial standards nowadays range from lazy to amateurish. Capitalising every word besides the connecting words such as to, if, of etc. is how it has been done for hundreds of years. I'm curious as to why you were not taught this at school, unless educational standards have also dropped that far.
@MrPeanutbutterz There should be room for both in this life. People who complain about juggies in a game are just as sad as people complaining that a woman is bald with tatts. Just don't play it, simple as that.
I suspect that Sonic 4 will revolve around Chaos from Sonic Adventure 1. He is a fan favourite villain after all.
Edit: I just learned of the ending of the film. I won't spoil it but, Chaos for Sonic 5! Let's go.
If these were live views then that is extremely impressive. If this is some nebulous amount based on after the fact YouTube videos or something like that then less so. More information is needed.
@lazarus11 I'm sure that some will disagree with me but i think making photorealistic children to sell to pedos is a very different discussion to anime girls in videogames. The former is clearly much further down the slippery slope than the latter.
@lazarus11 You say that but I know girls who are quite in love with Solid Snake's butt. Human beings of both sexes are very much a visual species and that is not changing.
@themightyant They're not real people. No one is being harmed, no laws are being broken. The fact that "it is a problem in real life" is meaningless. So is car crime, drug dealing, murder; and yet I take it that you do not agree with Jack Thompson regarding GTA?
Jimmy Savile harmed real people. Epstein harmed real people. These "victims" on the other hand are nothing more than a collection of one's and zeros being held upon a hard drive.

Btw, kind of insulted at the insinuation that anime wasn't big before Gen Z and A.
Yo Sony, the 2000s called; Naruto, Bleach, Pokemon, Dragonball Z and One Piece would like a word.

Re: Sony's Bringing Horizon Zero Dawn to the Big Screen with Live Action Movie Adaptation
Boil this story and gameplay down to its core and it'll make for quite a generic film. Horizon fans may watch it but for your casual film goer? Meh.
