Re: UK's Death Stranding 2 PS5 Physical Sales Down 66% Compared to Predecessor, But Context Matters

Korgon

It will be interesting to see how it performs. DS1 had the benefit of pure curiosity. Many people bought DS1 sight unseen because it was the first not MGS title from Kojima in forever. The game turned out quite divisive.

With DS2, the mystery isn't present anymore. People know if it isn't for them now. I doubt the game is going to flop or anything like that but I also wouldn't be surprised if it isn't nearly as successful as the original.

Re: Poll: Are You Playing Death Stranding 2?

Korgon

This will actually be the first Kojima game I don't play right at launch in my life. I finished the first one. I thought the world and some of the characters were cool but I just found the gameplay so boring. Nonetheless I still plan to give the sequel a chance at some point but considering how lukewarm I was on the original I can't justify spending $70 on the sequel.

Right now the plan is to wait until Black Friday for this one. If the sale is steep enough I'll give it a shot.

While I'm not as fond of DS as I am with MGS, Kojima is the most important figure in gaming to me. I would not be into games the way I am today without MGS to put it simply. So I almost feel like I owe it to him to at least try it. I can't imagine he has too many games left in his career after all.

Re: Hot Shots Golf Fans Fume at Use of Generative AI in PS5 Revival

Korgon

I can't say I'm excited to see it but at the same time, like the article said, this task does at least make sense for using the technology.

However, while trees don't really do much for most games outside of just being window dressing, trees are much more important in a Golf game for obvious reasons. If the trees lose their hit detection or something like that because of this, then we have a big problem.

Re: Square Enix 'Aware' of Clair Obscur's Success, Ponders Turn-Based RPG Revival

Korgon

I certainly wouldn't say no to a new turn-based FF. FFX is by far my favorite of the series after all! That said, they have to have passion for that direction if they are going to go in that direction.

You can't just make FF turn-based again because there's money to be made. You need to do it because the team believes that's the right direction.

Also while I do love E33's more actionish elements, I don't want every turn-based game to be that way. The Trails series is one of the most cozy, fun, relaxing RPGs out there. I also think the pure action combat of FF7R is great as well. Variety is good and right now, regardless of what type of RPG you are into, RPG fans are eating good. Let's not force everything to play like only one game just because that game happens to be really special.

Re: The Witcher, Kingdom Come Vibes in Blood of Dawnwalker Gameplay

Korgon

It looks interesting. You can tell it's being made by some ex-Witcher 3 talent just from the way things are presented. I'm a bit iffy on the combat though. It doesn't look like it really flows very well. A bit too unclear how the character is getting hit at times. Granted it is pre-beta footage so it could improve dramatically before release.

Definitely keeping an eye on it though. Love the really dark fantasy vampire vibe it's going for.

Re: You Really Will Be Waiting a While to Play Persona 4 Revival

Korgon

I think they could have kicked the P4 remake down the line a bit and instead focused on P6. P3 I get. That one really needed a remake considering how difficult it was originally to pick which version of 3 to play with all the different features/content belonging to different versions and whatnot.

P4 doesn't really have that problem though. P4G holds up very well still and is already available everywhere pretty much.

Oh well, you can't rush greatness after all. I'm sure it'll be worth the wait!

Re: The Next Xbox Is a PC, So What Does That Mean for PS6?

Korgon

Kind of crazy to realize the Series X/S will be the last of the "traditional" style Xbox consoles.

All I know though is that the simplicity of console gaming is the primary reason I stick with console gaming. If that simplicity is ever lost in the generations to come then my gaming habits will change significantly.

In other words, I don't mind PC gaming but if that's ever my only choice then I expect my time spent playing video games to dwindle dramatically. It's just not worth the hassle.

Re: There's a Brutal Lack of Interest in Marathon from Hardcore PS5 Fans

Korgon

I'd like to be interested but I just don't think there's enough meat on that bone to pick it up. If it had a campaign or other more traditional multiplayer modes I'd be more willing to take a chance on it. But only the Extraction mode? No thanks. Extraction shooters just do nothing for me.

I'll just play Gears instead for my multiplayer shooter fix.

Re: Final Fantasy 16 May Have Underperformed on PS5, But It's Doing Terribly on Xbox

Korgon

I'm sure the shadow drop didn't help. I'd be willing to bet the vast majority of the Xbox fanbase still believes its PS exclusive. It's also not on GP and well, I know the Xbox fans don't like to hear this but that audience just doesn't buy games very often anymore. When you have PS5 copies selling 75-80% consistently of multi-platform titles it's pretty hard to argue with those numbers.

Re: 'We Won't Make the Same Mistakes Again': Sony Reflects on PS5's Catastrophic Concord

Korgon

Their strategy going forward if they really want to keep trying the live service thing is to enter into genres that are not already heavily established.

Concord was entering the hero shooter market. We already got Overwatch and just a few months after Concord's launch, Marvel Rivals. It never stood a chance.

Marathon is entering the Extraction shooter market which is already niche as it is and has competition that is frankly just doing it better with Arc Raiders as well as established games like Hunt Showdown. I'm not confident Marathon will find success here either.

Then you got Marvel Tokon. Big license, starved fanbase for that type of fighter, respected studio behind it. Notice the difference? People are very excited for that game. I'm very confident this one will do well for them.

They need to just stop chasing trends and focus on areas where a live service title makes sense. That's where the heart of the problem is. Trend chasing.

Re: Splitgate 2 (PS5) - Sleek Shooter Sequel Is Uninspired Fun

Korgon

I'm quite enjoying my time with the game myself. I do agree with the maps being a bit dull though. The good news is that can be fixed as more and more maps are added.

I don't really get why people are so up in arms about the guy on stage though. Was it a bit cringy? Sure but it's Summer Games Fest. Cringe is to be expected!😄

I more took issue with him going on about how arena shooters are dying because of games like COD (which in reality, is actually one of the last consistent bastions of arena shooters in a way) and then he announces a battle royale mode. The actual thing that has been killing arena shooters arguably.

Still though, the game is a good time which is the main thing. I don't really care about outside noise that much.

Re: Atlus Says It's 'Actively Preparing' for the Future of Persona as Revival Gets Rough Reception

Korgon

I have faith it will all work out in the end. They did a great job with P3R so I don't see any reason to think they will mess up P4R. The game is clearly very early in development so let's just chill a bit before bringing out the pitchforks.

That said though, it does concern me just how much further away P6 probably is now considering I don't expect this to release until 2027 at the earliest. 🙁

Re: Reaction: Sony Finally Understands the Assignment with One of the Best State of Plays of the PS5 Era

Korgon

A funny thing to consider as well, the Marvel game is going to be a live service game like most fighting games these days. One could argue this is the only one in the pipeline currently that has people genuinely excited. That alone makes this SOP a big deal.

Now for myself personally, the MGO tease absolutely got me excited. I still can't believe it's coming back!

Overall a great SOP indeed! Lots of cool looking stuff here.

Re: Round Up: What Was Announced During Sony's State of Play Livestream for June 2025?

Korgon

I've said it before and I'll say it again. People are way too harsh on SOPs. This one was packed with really great stuff for a variety of tastes. That's all one can really ask for.

I mean MGO is actually alive! I had completely given up hope of ever seeing MGO come back again. I was already excited for Delta but that just shot it up big time on my must play list. I loved MGO back in the day!

Re: The Witcher 4 Gameplay Revealed, Running on PS5 at 60fps with Ray Tracing

Korgon

@BiosNova @Reyzore
Actually if anything I trust them more than ever after Cyberpunk. They could have just taken the money and ran but instead stuck with it to the point that now Cyberpunk is legitimately one the very best RPGs available on modern hardware. They also gave refunds to anyone who wanted one.

Were mistakes made? Sure but I would say they more than made up for it in the end. And even if God forbid Witcher 4 launches in a not great state, I have more confidence CDPR will get it where it needs to be more than say Bethesda with ES6.

Plus the entire reason they switched to Unreal 5 is to have a much smoother development this time around.

It's perfectly fine to be skeptical though. By all means if you are uncomfortable don't pre-order until reviews and whatnot. I just can't say that I am personally skeptical here is all. 😄

Re: Elden Ring Nightreign's Massive Success Proves There's a Future for Online Souls

Korgon

It's literally the opposite of everything I like about a Fromsoft game. I prefer the slower paced exploration. I play them single player only for the most part. I like the RPG elements.

Needless to say, this game isn't for me but that's okay. I'm happy for the people enjoying it. I've got plenty of other games to keep me occupied instead so I'm not feeling left out one bit. I'll come back to From whenever their next more traditional style game comes around. Or Armored Core. I'm down for more Armored Core.
