The Blood of Dawnwalker developer Rebel Wolves appears to have taken cues and inspiration from The Witcher 3 and the directional combat system of Kingdom Come: Deliverance as it makes its debut RPG. Demonstrated in a 20-minute gameplay debut of the game, it touches on combat, exploration, and the changes in gameplay once night falls.
You play as a vampire, so during the day, the game plays like more of a traditional RPG, where you'll explore towns, talk to people, and engage in traditional sword combat. However, at night, the gameplay demonstrates rooftop jumping through a shadowstep feature.

With a thirst for blood, you can also feed on humans. The game allows you to choose how much blood you take, with a meter that drains as they get closer to dying.
In terms of combat, you'll need to carefully choose which direction you attack and block in, as these mechanics dictate the winner and loser of battles, similar to the Kingdom Come: Deliverance series.
The Blood of Dawnwalker is slated to release for PS5 in 2026, and it's designed to be the first entry in a new RPG saga. Gameplay was taken from the "pre-beta" phase. Do you like the look of it? Share your first impressions in the comments below.

Honestly, all these RPGs are why this gen is my absolute favorite! But damn, how can I possibly play them all?!
I like the look of it.
I also picked up that the timer isn't a "timer" its more a "resource"? And the game warns you when its going to tick forward, which I hope means that you can spend ages exploring and slow playing rather than constantly fighting time š
I think it looked good - itās basically started out the same way as The Witcher 3 in terms of setting. Iām one of the rare people who enjoyed the combat in TW3, so I think it looks solid here. Itās awesome that the devs showed such lengthy footage of the game; that tells me itās cooking right along just fine, and I donāt see any prominent delays in its future.
Love the Witcher, but comparing it to Kingdom Come lowers my interest a little bit. I know many people love the franchise, but itās not for me. Not a fan of the combat if itās a mix between those two games.
It looks interesting. You can tell it's being made by some ex-Witcher 3 talent just from the way things are presented. I'm a bit iffy on the combat though. It doesn't look like it really flows very well. A bit too unclear how the character is getting hit at times. Granted it is pre-beta footage so it could improve dramatically before release.
Definitely keeping an eye on it though. Love the really dark fantasy vampire vibe it's going for.
Is it me or does it seem like a lot of these sort of spinoff studios consisting of you know groups of people that used to work at āAAA game dev Xā rarely seem to put out an actual good game? That being said, this does look cool, but I will absolutely be waiting for reviews before buying.
Yeah Iāve been relatively excited for this since the first theatrical trailer at the start of this year⦠and this gameplay probably adds a little support to that.
I wasnāt a massive fan of the combat in Witcher 3 and this looks pretty similar⦠but Iām hoping the open world, narrative and characters will mean that any grumbles I have with the sword-play is mitigated, as was the case with W3.
There still a lot of work for them to do on this for it to not feel janky, but it's pre-beta so there is loads of time left. I do hope they decide to pull the camera back a bit, platforming with the camera pushed in that close is awful, the directional combat is interesting but looks clunky and that city is far too clean and sparse even for a Vampire ruled place.
Huh. Looks rough in certsin aspects of its UI, combat, movement, and visuals. However the vampire setting has me still interested.
Not at all understanding the idea of calling this a large open world game, yet clearly show a countdown system in the gameplay. I hope they explain that more. Also the skill trees were extremely bare bones and just small. Does this suggest a much smaller and narrow focused game than implied?
Hopefully it turns out interesting, however for me this showing definitely lessened my expectations or interest a bit.
I'm a bit surprised they decided to show this at its current state of development I'm wondering if they are looking to drum up a little bit of additional investment.
Color me extremely intrigued.
Well... the combat surely seems more interesting than the witcher's.
Wasn't really that bothered about this ...but that combat has me intrigued....I liked Kingdom come 2 combat
@somnambulance I agree with you. The combat sounds bad. This had my attention until the comparison to Kingdom Come.
This game caught my eye until I read the following: "Rebel Wolves appears to have taken cues and inspiration from The Witcher 3 and the directional combat system of Kingdom Come: Deliverance"
Will get it for 5$ or free with plus. Whatever they will ask for this will be too much.
It looks good but I hope they fix the camera and I wished if it wasn't so inspired by Witcher. I know they're ex-Witcher devs but at least I want to feel it's a different world but right now it looks very Witcher-y to me.
Yeah it looks super good so far, except for the dinky skill tree. Kind of donāt see how it would be an RPG with a skill tree so barren (Iām hoping they just hid a bunch of skills on the UI). unless they are calling it such from a choice/consequence perspective moreso than the gameplay side
N.i.c.e. the gameplay is really good.thats a game too look out for .Word up son
Wish the camera was a bit better but, other than that I'm looking forward to this.
Vampire the Masquerade Bloodlines had a similar meter when it came to drinking blood. That is a game that needs to be remastered for this generation. It was only on PC but it was the best vampire rpg I have ever played. It is extremely dated now and the graphics doesn't hold up very well.
I support the former A team Witcher 3 developers. As long as they sell a physical copy, I'll buy it.
Im curious if the game will jp voices i played ac shadows and star wars outlaws with jp voices and i f.....love it
Hmmm I think Iāll be giving this a chance. Loved Witcher and KCD2
This game looks very cool. I hope it turns out well, I love the ideas they have showed.
Looks like a game from my dreams. I've wanted something like The Witcher with fun traversal for a while.
Still interested, but the demo has tempered the interest a little.
It does look a lot like The Witcher 3 in how its presented and the way the combat works. However the combat looks a bit ropey currently, notably the claws animation just looks very disconnected from the combat.
Will continue to keep an eye out as its still early days
I just hope that the writing and dialogue is as good as the games it's compared with.
@Ravix yeah i noticed the 22 days to rescue family and thought nah that's not for me. Then he stated its not a timer but a resource, what does that even mean, is it automatic quest fail if you don't complete the quest on time?
@Anya-chan wouldn't a game that looks like its set in middle age Europe,be weird for you with Japanese voices.
@somnambulance i agree the first kcd combat was clunky ,but the second game was much much better , more refined and easier to pull off epic moves, just need to level up, im no combat master , im terrible at souls games, but if I can do it anyone can.
Looks very promising. One to keep an eye on.
@lazarus11 I got about 20 hours into KCD2 and I believe I gets better, but it just wasnāt for me. To be fair, I did not like the Witcher games either for years. It wasnāt until 2020 that I was able to just say, āScrew it, Iām going all in on this and giving it one big, final shot,ā and ended up breaking through to the other side. Maybe if we get another COVID, Iāll be able to sink into the game without life getting in the way. Lol
@lazarus11 I remember when I first heard about it they mentioned a timer, which felt off-putting, but I'm guessing it will be kind of like a "click on this quest to start and time will change" rather than a fully dynamic day/night cycle with a limited amount of time.
To me, itd make sense if there were a bunch of quests you can do in the day, and a bunch at night, with some crossover quests that require both, and choosing to advance time to complete one part might have to be a decision we think about more carefully as time gets more scarce.
If it is indeed like this, I think it will add to the fun (take your time when you want to, and then make actual decisions that affect the overall story and the time you have left) and whether or not its a hard fail or just an alternative bad ending will have to be seen in-game, I guess.
All I know for sure though is that him saying time doesnt just run out on its own makes it feel like it will still be an RPG you can take your time with outside of the main quest, but maybe with a few consequences that do link back to the time you have.
The gameplay seems really good, but I feel like I might struggle with it and get stuck at these boss fights.
@Kraven There were people who didn't like the combat in TW3? This is a serious question because I loved the combat and didn't know there was any dislike about it.
@thechetearly
This is a really interesting question and now you got me struggling to remember a podcast/video from Second Wind (former Escapist people including Yahtzee Croshaw). Because they posed this same exact question and they only came up with like 1-2 examples.
If my curiosity gets the better of me and I go through some of those videos again, I'll update.
Edit: within a min of posting, I remembered one: Respawn. Former Infinity Ward (COD) developers have made good games with Titanfall and the Jedi games. They definitely mentioned 1 or 2 others though.
@somnambulance it may sound odd but I loved lockdown, I was furloughed with full pay , loved taking sunny walks to the park in the morning with nothing but the birds for company , we will never see the like again, wonder how many wish they could go back and do it again , maybe appreciate all that free time more.
@lazarus11 well i always try both when the game has English and jp but let tell you ac shadows in jp makes the game even better and to my surprise star wars outlaws in jp was f...good i love the stormtrooper voices in jp
@lazarus11 I had a similar situation. I was laid off right in time to receive the first round of stimulus checks in the States, so I made roughly the same amount unemployed as I made employed, only without the irritation of needing to pay for things like gas to get to work⦠or the irritation of having to work for someone! I had a great time with it too. Everywhere was clean and peaceful and the few of us that went outside seemed to have the whole world for ourselves. On top of that, I beat every single 40+ hour game I had in my library that I hadnāt beaten yet (and the wife played Animal Crossing while I did that). I donāt think I appreciated that time enough, but it was definitely one of the happier years in my life, which is weird to say, given how miserable most people were.
Character movement is janky af. Something about the game in general just seems off.
@somnambulance i remember when boris announced we was going into a second lockdown , I was elated , people slam rishi sunak ,but he saved a hell of a lot of businesses with that furlough scheme, people seemed to be more pleasant when you was out and about ,passing strangers on the street was always greeted with a smile and a knowing nod š
