Re: Poll: Are You Sold on Borderlands 4?

Korgon

Borderlands 1 & 2 are all time favorites of mine. Loved playing those co-op with the boys back in the day! 3 unfortunately took a bit too long to come out though as we have all gotten older it's tougher to get everyone together for a session. Still a solid shooter though. I didn't finish 3 but liked it well enough.

4 does look promising. I'm not 100% in but I'm interested. It will largely depend on if I'm playing anything else at the time if I get it right away or not.

Re: Expedition 33's Sublime Success Sparks Chatter About Final Fantasy's Future

Korgon

I have some good news for the folks clamoring for a new turn based FF. There are plenty of other great options out there if you just look around a bit. Atlus, Falcom, and obviously just recently Expedition 33 are just a few of them. Heck Square still does it now just not with FF like the article said. Turn-based never died, FF just moved more and more away from it is all.

Now all that said I'd gladly take a new turn-based FF. FFX is still my personal favorite and I'd love to see a new FF have something more similar to that again but if not, it's no big deal. I have plenty of other options for my turn-based fix.

One thing I definitely do hope to see though from a potential FF17 is a return to a proper party again at least. FF7R did a good job with this but that was one of my biggest issues with 16. Your companions just felt borderline pointless outside of Torgal being just a combo extender tool. Those RPG elements need to come back more than anything for the next FF in my opinion.

Re: Not Everyone Loved Oblivion Remastered's Shadow Drop

Korgon

I can see where their frustration is coming from. Working on a game for ages, finally coming up to the launch date only to have to go up against a juggernaut franchise out of nowhere like Elder Scrolls. Basically your game all of a sudden has to completely knock it out of the park just to stand a chance like Expedition 33 thankfully did.

No doubt it's a difficult market. Money is of course a problem but time is a bigger luxury for customers. By the time most folks finish something like an Oblivion these devs could have already shut down for lack of funds.

I feel for them but there isn't much to be done. Bethesda/Microsoft is a business too at the end of the day and they have choose to do whatever they need to do to ensure their success.

Re: Video: Everything You Need to Know About Marathon

Korgon

I wish them well as I'll always have a soft spot for Bungie thanks to the early Halo days.

I just don't think the very idea of an extraction shooter sounds at all appealing to me. I mean you sweat it out so hard just to get a good weapon...and then you might lose it if you mess up just once and so decide to just not use it? And even if you don't lose it to another player, you still lose it anyway at the end of a season? Just sounds annoying more than fun to me but like I said I suppose it's just not for me.

Personally I like what Splitgate 2 is offering more and it's also free so I think that will be where my attention goes for my next shooter.

Re: Opinion: Baldur's Gate 3 Was Already a 10/10, But Updates Have Made It an All-Time Masterpiece

Korgon

I played it for around 30 hours but I bounced off of it. I just don't like the way it plays. The move wheel system just feels so unpolished to me that I just couldn't stand it anymore.

I do respect the amount of depth available in it though. It is impressive in many ways but it just isn't for me. I much prefer more structured RPGs which is probably why I generally gravitate towards JRPGs more.

Re: Poll: Are You Planning to Buy Bungie's Marathon?

Korgon

The look of the game is definitely the best thing it has going for it. Bungie has always been great when it comes to art direction and Marathon looks no different.

The problem for myself is just the pitch of the game. The concept of an extraction shooter just does nothing for me. I just prefer classic arena shooters is all. I'm not really into battle royal and extraction shooters just sound like a more loot focused version of that.

Right now, Splitgate 2 is the upcoming shooter I'm much more interested in. It also helps that that is free-to-play. I just don't think Marathon has nearly enough going for it to survive in this space especially as a premium title. If there was also a campaign I might have been tempted but at the moment I'm not interested.

Re: Shuhei Yoshida on the Switch 2 Direct: 'Underwhelming Until FromSoftware Showed Up'

Korgon

They did a great job of showing off the new features of the console. It actually looks like a pretty beefy step up especially from Switch 1.

The games were a bit more so-so. Mario Kart does look great even if the $80 price tag hurts. Donkey Kong looks okay though I would have preferred another Country game instead. That wheelchair basketball ball game looks pretty bad from what was shown sorry to say. The Welcome Tour thing should be free. Period. Finally Fromsoft was a big deal initially but after hearing a bit more about the style of it has dampened the excitement considerably around it.

They probably should have just shortened the C button segment dramatically and used some of that time for other game announcements.

Re: Tekken 8 Reveals 'Emergency' Patches as Player Backlash Spirals Out of Control

Korgon

It has been pretty wild to watch from the outside. I only play Tekken very casually with friends every now and then but it seems like the community is in an absolute uproar about this update. Granted the fighting game community complains a lot but this definitely feels different from the norm.

It wasn't a fighting game but the last time I saw a community this upset with an update was way back on Uncharted 2 1.05 patch. That version number lives rent free in my head to this very day. I hated that balance update so much. 😂

Re: Talking Point: What Are Your Thoughts on Potential $80 PS5 Games?

Korgon

Obviously not happy to see it but I was expecting $80 to be the standard going into this generation so I'm not too bothered. It is getting to the point where I will have to be much more selective on what I buy at full price though.

Especially with Nintendo games in particular. I'm shocked they were the first to do this considering they usually don't bother with motion-capture, cutscene direction, VO, etc. Most of their games are strictly in the for fun only category. They aren't putting out narrative heavy games that require all that stuff so I am a bit surprised they went above $70 first.

Re: Poll: PS5 Fans, Are You Sold on the Nintendo Switch 2?

Korgon

I'm not interested at launch. I'm sure I'll get one eventually but nothing is really speaking to me much outside of Mario Kart but even then I have some concerns about the open world nature of it.

GameCube support is cool though so I guess there's that.

Re: PS5, PS4 Users Can Avoid PC Hackers After New Call of Duty Update

Korgon

@Rich33
While the user base is large for Playstation already, having Xbox players added is a good thing too. I like to play with a friend who has an Xbox but we don't like going up against PC players. Now we don't have to and can still play with each other so I would say there is a very valid need for this update.

Re: Assassin's Creed Shadows Devs 'Actively Looking' at Adding Harder Difficulty Mode

Korgon

Expert feels pretty much perfect in terms of challenge and yet not being too challenging. Although Yasuke is kind of OP in combat so maybe if they could make combat feel a bit tougher for him then I could get behind that. Naoe feels just right in combat though so I don't think they need to change anything there.

Oh but if fast travel is taken away I absolutely wouldn't bother with a tougher mode. That's just truly sicko behavior there! 🤣

Re: Don't Forget About the New Game from One of GTA's Most Important People

Korgon

@Ravix
Yeah and I mean I'd be fine with basically a sci-fi GTA. That sounds great...but I don't really know for sure or not if that is what it is because we just haven't seen enough.

Developers need to keep in mind you are trying to sell a product at the end of the day. I understand wanting not spoil everything but if it's a new IP you have to work a bit harder to get people's attention. Otherwise it just gets a bit lost in the shuffle like this one has.

Re: Poll: What Review Score Would You Give Assassin's Creed Shadows?

Korgon

I'm thoroughly enjoying it in almost every way so I'm sitting at a 9. My only real criticisms are I do wish there was at least some social stealth available and some of the side content is hit or miss.

I'm really enjoying the story, exploration, and moment to moment gameplay though. The weather system in particular is pretty incredible as it does make you need to consider your approach more since some routes will be less safe than others depending on the season and even can change up guard positions/routes. I've never really seen that sort of behavior from AI before. It really keeps me on my toes especially with the expert difficulty.

I really hope other games take some notes on this system. Pretty damn impressive.

Re: Reaction: Sony's Licensing Strategy May Be the Best Route to Reviving Some of PlayStation's Lost Classics

Korgon

There's no downside really with this approach. At worst the revival isn't received well and then the IP is right back where it was before anyway. I have no idea why anyone would be against this approach. Like it's been said clearly Sony isn't interested in working on them in-house so why not? Literally nothing to lose.

If we get a Folklore Remastered out of this strategy I would quite literally be over the moon with excitement!

Re: RPG Fans 'Very Sensitive to Feeling Like They Wasted Time,' Says Atlus Battle Designer

Korgon

The only thing older RPGs had that more modern ones don't is the requirement of grinding to get up to the proper level to tackle a section/boss fight. They've dramatically improved in that department which I appreciate.

I love RPGs but that was always my least favorite aspect to them. They've gotten much better at just having side-quests take over that grind instead of just mindlessly getting into fight after fight just to level up.
