Free-to-play multiplayer shooter Splitgate 2 has announced a release date, as well as teased a big surprise announcement for Summer Game Fest.
Currently in an open beta, the arena FPS with portals will make its full launch on 6th June 2025 — the same day that Geoff's showcase kicks things off.
Developer 1047 Games is also promising a "massive surprise" which will make itself known during the presentation.
Exactly what that is remains to be seen, but the press release describes it as "the biggest part" of Splitgate 2.

Thus far, the game comprises numerous modes of multiplayer action across several playlists, with plenty of weapons and cosmetics to unlock, a battle pass to grind through — the usual. The game also features a map editor, which allows you to create your own levels and modes.
This big surprise sounds like it'll add a major component to the game, and we'll find out what it is on 6th June.
In the meantime, the team has released a cinematic trailer, which ends with a tease of the aforementioned surprise announcement. Could there be a story mode?
We'll soon find out, anyway. Are you excited for the full launch of Splitgate 2 on PS5 and PS4? Tell us in the comments section below.

Bro the picture of the guy for article unironically looks like the green hot sauce alien from Concord, I can't unsee it now..
@Oram77 I thought exactly the same!!!
That would be awesome if there is a campaign coming too! The multiplayer is already awesome on its own. Looking forward to what this surprise is!
I've been hopping in over the last few days and I actually really like it! It controls much tighter than the first game and the maps, while few, are pretty well designed. The class abilities are pretty fun as well, adding a little extra to defending positions. The 24 player 3-team modes are great, too - nice big maps.
All in all, until we finally get Halo on PlayStation, this is an Arena Shooter worthy of a look.
My only big complaint is the art design, which I imagine is just targeting younger players. It feels very Beyblades.
Would be cool if there’s a campaign. Portal+Halo=potentially a campaign of dreams for FPS fans.
@wildcat_kickz Yeah the art style is definitely trying to appeal to either younger audiences or the fortnite players that like overly vibrant colors.
Fingers crossed for a campaign! The gameplay is so good in Splitgate; I'd love to see what they could do with a proper story mode
Having a blast with this at the moment. So fast and frantic with those old school halo vibes. It'd addictive!
The surprise is likely to be some form of singleplayer.
@Nepp67 Ah yes, the good old vibrant colors = bad argument. Truly delightful.
Fair updates. Not interested.
To me it's not that exciting.
Even the portals eh. I mean Sonic Crossworlds is just another Transformed and even playing Transformed it's fine but Crossworlds will barely do anything new and just be another that, so why would I be excited, it will be a plateau and do nothing else gameplay interesting with the concept.
I have no respect for devs because I know they won't even push further, why would they, they aren't creative enough as they don't think of it or the effort isn't worth it, so they half put effort into an idea because putting in it action is too hard to elevate it more.
Like Ratchet Rift Apart, barely up over Crack in Time and just repeat it or be more Tools/Nexus and be pathetic to do anything interesting of gameplay flexibility. So to me the gimmick is pretty who cares and I don't like multiplayer because their maps are so boring and I don't care to play against others. Bots sure but that doesn't happen anymore.
I have seen the Splitgate ads enough as it is. I am sick to death of seeing them. I don't care how similar it is to other games I don't even care for those and it looks like garbage.
I have no interest at all. Give me a good story based shooter with actual effort in the level design, I'm there, but those are mostly dead so if I see another multiplayer shooter I will immediately ignore them. I will continue to play 6/7th gen ones instead as it's the closest I'll get.
Same with platformers or racing from 5/6th gen the AAA/Indies are garbage and won't do anything remotely exciting at all just sub par garbage with other priorities.
I hate modern shooting mechanics/feel anyway, they all copy paste and all feel terrible. I hate modern feeling ones and they go 'oh we have hit a plateau or copy this game' no you haven't I hate them. Change how they feel.
It's like with platformers I hate how Mario feels and the movesets are fine but I barely use the moves.
Or racing. Some are way too 'look were realistic' and they feel horrible. While to me GT3 and PGR2 and 3 are my go to models yet never will happen again. I can play them and immediately know how they are so flexible to how I play.
