GTA 6 PS5

GTA 6 developer Rockstar Games has published a statement addressing the gameplay leaks that have been spreading across the Internet in the past week. The leaked videos have become increasingly spoilery in nature, with the potential for story details to make their way online.

In response, the studio has commented on the leaks and apologised for how long it's taken Rockstar to get to this point, where it's about to show an official look at GTA 6 gameplay in a Netflix livestream.

The first paragraph of the statement goes as follows:

We know that many of you have been waiting to hear from us regarding the events of the past week. It would be an understatement to say that having videos of Grand Theft Auto VI gameplay leak in this way has been heartbreaking for our team, and this is obviously not how we intended for you to see the game after all this time. We are very sorry that everything has taken as long as it has — from getting the game finished (nearly there) to sharing more details and official gameplay, and providing the community with everything you want to know.

From there, Rockstar reiterates the Netflix Extended Look at GTA 6 will still take place tomorrow, 27th August 2026, and the release date isn't changing: GTA 6 is still coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on 19th November 2026.

"We want to thank everyone in the community who has reached out with messages of support this past week — your words have meant more to this team than you can imagine," the statement concluded. "Ultimately, we are making this game for you, and without you, we would not have the privilege of making games.

The recent GTA 6 leaks started off modest, showing Jason simply playing basketball and driving around. However, more and more of the open world city and specific places have been shown online in leaked videos, with murmurs that the leaker in question could publish story beats from the prologue.
