Re: Round Up: What Was Announced at the PlayStation Showcase?

DeepSpace5D

There was no need to call this a showcase.

They should have just made this a 1-hour State of Play based on indies, third-parties, and VR titles.

Then they could have done a separate 15-20 minute State of Play for Spider-Man 2 and it would have been pretty much the same thing.

When you call your event a PlayStation Showcase, you’re setting expectations for first-party studios to show up in a big way.

What a bummer.

I’m finally going to play Spider-Man by way of the remastered version for PS5. Downloading it as we speak. Never played this before, but with the PlayStation showcase right around the corner and Spider-Man 2 practically a lock to show up, I figured now’s a good time to catch up with the series.

Happy gaming everyone.

Re: Horizon Forbidden West Has Become One of PS5's Best-Selling Games

@MFTWrecks

Do you have certain machines that you have this issue with? I can’t say I shared this same issue or feeling when I was playing the game. And to my eyes, I don’t really see how what you’re describing is a change from Zero Dawn.

In Zero Dawn you also have to shoot off pieces of armor at times in order to expose parts of the machine that can lead to bigger amounts of damage.

For example in both Zero Dawn and Forbidden West, Snapmaws ( the crocodiles) have two elemental canisters on their heads near the shoulders that will explode if hit with a fire arrow. But in order to expose the elemental canister you sometimes have to remove the piece of armor covering them. Similarly in both games, one of the weak points of a Thunderjaw is that orange spot behind the shoulders. If you shoot in that spot it does like triple your normal damage, but before it can be exposed you have to shoot off a piece of armor to get to it.

It’s about learning how the machines differentiate from one another and exploiting their weak points. But I don’t really see how that mechanic changed much from Zero Dawn. There’s just a much greater variety of machines in Forbidden West that you have to figure out.

I personally appreciated the fact that every machine has a unique design to its parts. They all have different detachable sections that can remove some of their attacks in battle and do decent damage. And they pretty much all have elemental weaknesses you can take advantage of as well.

I never felt like I was just chipping away at armor pieces and doing barely any damage, even on my Ultra Hard playthrough.

@MFTWrecks I don’t really get your complaint about the armor pieces on machines. You can highlight every removable piece on a machine with your focus, and even tag the parts if you want to keep them highlighted during the whole combat encounters.

So whether or not you hit the detachable parts, or miss and instead hit their armor, comes down to your ability with aiming.

There’s a ton of different playstyles in Forbidden West depending on how you want to play. I always go for melee up close with a long range bow for sniping. My wife in contrast loves to set traps and tripwires to take things down.

The skill trees in Forbidden West open up the possibilities for a bunch of different styles to approach combat situations.

I’m going to be starting a New Game+ playthrough of The Last of Us: Part II on Grounded difficulty with permadeath by chapter, to try and knock out those two trophies at the same time.

I’m looking forward to the challenge and I’ve heard the AI on that difficulty can make the gunfights pretty intense.

Happy gaming everyone.

Re: Soapbox: PS Plus Might Be Gaming's Best Subscription Service Now

DeepSpace5D

I’ve been really enjoying the changes to PS Plus.

The PS+ Extra library has an enormous amount of titles that absolutely dwarfs Gamepass in terms of sheer numbers of titles, which includes many great first-party PlayStation games that you can’t get on rival services such as Spider-Man, Ghost of Tsushima, Returnal, God of War, etc.

There’s also been some great day and date releases as of late like Tchia, Meet Your Maker, and the upcoming Humanity.

Then on Premium tier it’s got those nostalgic classics that are constantly receiving more trophy support.

It’s really starting to blossom into a great all-around service with something for everyone.

Re: Talking Point: We Need to Discuss This Horizon Zero Dawn PS5 Remaster

DeepSpace5D

Looks like with the leaked document, this is a PS5 remaster of the game, not a Remake. So it’s probably going to be just like how Ghost of Tsushima received a director’s cut version of the game.

There is a perfectly fine version on PS5 that was given a free update to 60fps, and people can just play that one if they don’t want this remaster.

I think Sony should get some goodwill out of this and charge no more than $20 to upgrade to owners of Zero Dawn already, but we have no idea what this new version is going to add exactly, so it’s all just rumor for now.

A new Horizon online experience does sound interesting though, so I’ll wait to hear more about this.

Re: Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster for PS5 Reportedly in Development

DeepSpace5D

@Bez87 No it definitely is not needed, I agree. However I don’t agree that Zero Dawn is close to Forbidden West in terms of visuals. I played both pretty much back-to-back and Forbidden West is way more visually advanced and impressive. Maybe if you are playing the PS4 version of Forbidden West you could say it’s not a huge difference, but not so on the PS5.

If Zero Dawn gets parity with Forbidden West, it will at the very least be a big upgrade visually.

Re: Horizon Zero Dawn Remaster for PS5 Reportedly in Development

DeepSpace5D

I just finally got around to playing and completing the PS4 version of Zero Dawn this year in January, so this would probably be one I wait on a sale for.

But for anyone who still hasn’t played Zero Dawn, having it at parity with Forbidden West for your first experience with it would be pretty awesome.

Re: PS5, PS4 Blockbuster God of War Ragnarok the Big Winner from State of Play

DeepSpace5D

The Ragnarok trailer was impressive considering what had been shown previously for the game was kind of underwhelming.

It went from looking like a safe sequel (some even went as far as to say it looked like DLC), to looking like an epic adventure that’s going to wrap up the Norse mythology with style.

I’m not surprised that trailer is doing big numbers because even though I was always going to get it, that story trailer was the first time I felt genuinely hyped about what I saw in it.

Re: Sony: Efforts Beyond Console Do Not Diminish Our Passion for Amazing Single Player Games

DeepSpace5D

@Blaze215 What actions would those be?

Because this year I see Horizon: Forbidden West released, with TLoU: Remake out in a few days and God of War: Ragnarok out in a couple months.

Last year had Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart and Returnal.

Year before that had TLoU II, Ghost of Tsushima, Astro’s Playroom, Miles Morales, Demon’s Souls.

Single-player output seems pretty normal so far.

Branching out to mobile and Gaas doesn’t change that if single-player output is maintained at the pace they are going currently.
