Re: Sony Stands with Japan's Creators in AI Copyright Crackdown

CielloArc

Japanese copyright law is weird because Comiket is a thing in Japan yet companies rarely go after doujins being sold at that event but they can go after a speedrun event because its streaming a game without the permission from the IP holder.

But I can see why they would go after Sora2, its owned by another company and its making money from copyrighted work, albeit not directly.

Re: 'Fame Does Not Create a Trademark': Sony, Tencent's War of Words Over Horizon Rip-Off Rage On

CielloArc

" It pointed out that the PlayStation property also shares similarities with games like The Legend of Zelda and Enslaved: Odyssey to the West."

They do share some similarities indeed, like theme, gameplay and other things. Just like how every zombie movie/game share some things, its inherent to the genre and setting.
But each work should be distinct enough from each other in order to avoid trouble.

The fact that Tencent changed the game AFTER the lawsuit came out means they KNOW this travesty is similar enough to Horizon to warrant that lawsuit.

And no, this is not the same as Nintendo vs Palworld, Nintendo literally tried to copyright basic mechanics that every game outside Pokemon has. Basic things humanity has been doing since the inception of humanity, like throwing an object or riding an animal.

Re: 'We Want to Be Everywhere, on Every Platform': Microsoft CEO Once Again Commits to PS5

CielloArc

"Gaming's competition is not other gaming. Gaming's competition is short-form video."

Was he drunk or high when he said this? No one with a sane mind would say that, at least not without drinking the whole bar or doing some line. Please hook me up with his dealer because I want to get as high as him when he said that.

Gaming has never shared public with anything, except toys. And that was a whole two decades ago before comunists around the globe started clamping down against selling toys for kids.

Re: EA's Game Development Is Very Quickly Becoming an AI-Driven Hellscape, Report Claims

CielloArc

@ryan_nil @nessisonett
I've been using it to review code and find any syntax errors that could lead to some screw up later down the line. That and for generating documentation.

But then, again, I know the limitations of generative AI, that's why I avoid using it for critical work opting instead to use it for automation of a boring part.

What suits need to realize is that getting help from AI doesn't mean people will work faster, but they could and should work better if they know how to use it. It ain't a silver bullet.

Re: Sony's Social Media Tribute to the PS2 Borders on Insulting

CielloArc

People were just expecting something else.
Me on the hand just love Sony took their time to remind us PS2 existed.

Anyways, while PS Plus is something good for that retro vibe, I kinda wish they had a FPGA PS2 disc drive that people could use on their PS5 to play some PS1/2/3 games. Even if that drive had a premium price tag.

Re: Sony Rules Out Acquiring Batman, Mortal Kombat Maker Warner Bros

CielloArc

I don't think Sony would get the rights for Batman:Arkham or Hogwarts Legacy because those are separate rights.

It is also the main reason why this is a tricky deal and why I think most companies will pass. Only Netherrealm has some value because acquiring them means you'll get Mortal Kombat.

The others? You'll get the studio and that's it.

Re: This Is Why Xbox Is Bringing All of Its Games to PS5 Now

CielloArc

So, TLDR is basically, Xbox fooled around with company money, the bean counters found it and now they want it back with raging interest rates.

Its kinda ironic the downfall of Xbox, an arm of a trillion dollar company, isn't related to the quality of their services but rather from the money they borrowed from daddy.

Re: Sep 2025 USA Sales: Ghost of Yotei PS5 Boycott Fails, Sequel Sells 'Great'

CielloArc

@DennisReynolds
EA literally made a press release on the official site as soon as monday came to celebrate the sales.

And yes, while companies aren't obliged to divulge sales numbers they quite often make these kind of celebratory posts when a game is doing good, which is what I complained about.

One case I can mention is Astro Bot, no celebratory posts were made for the game, when the Q2 2025 shareholder meeting came it was revealed the game sold 1.5 million copies over three months, which isn't an impressive number for the investment made but it made clear the IP has potential, mainly because over half of that number were people who were first time buyers.

As for Nintendo, they simply don't release data or celebrate their games outside things like one year anniversary or something similar.

Re: Xbox Boss Believes Sony's Strategy of Console Exclusives Is 'Antiquated'

CielloArc

Antiquated, yet it has been working for the industry over the last 40 years and it will work in the next 40, Xbox on the other hand might die in the next gen if they keep this stupid strategy up.

Not only people have no reason to buy Xbox hardware of ANY kind, they also don't have reason to buy into Microsoft ecosystem.

Also, Roblox, Fortnite, CoD and others only work because they are live service cross-platform community driven games. Remove even one of those components and they won't work anymore, it has nothing to do with platforms but rather with how much parasocial these games are.

Re: Sep 2025 USA Sales: Ghost of Yotei PS5 Boycott Fails, Sequel Sells 'Great'

CielloArc

It did so well Sucker Punch still refuses to tell us the numbers.
Yet, EA was happy telling us how much BF6 sold in the first three days.

For me this reeks of AC Shadows levels of propaganda, AC Shadows sold well enough to justify making the game but it didn't sell as much as Ubisoft wanted or needed.

Mistakes were made in Yotei, mistakes that aren't related with the game itself, which is a pretty awesome game mind you, but rather how people perceive the game.

Re: Rumour: Halo Remake Is Coming to PS5, Will Feature 'Modern Gameplay Mechanics'

CielloArc

@Fiendish-Beaver
Actually, the main point is to train 343 team on how to use UE5.

They announced the change from Slipstream to UE5 a while ago, making a remake of Halo 1 is the best project they could have to train people since it is the most basic Halo on a technical level.

Selling this specific game on other platforms is just a side effect of learning the engine.

Re: PS6 May Go Uncontested as Rumours of Next-Gen Xbox Cancellation Spiral

CielloArc

"It’ll use Game Pass as a Trojan horse for cloud gaming, and further price increases are coming."

That's a nice way of saying it will flop.
Cloud gaming is rarely used outside US and some parts of European market, and even in those parts it represents less than 5% of market share.

It is the future as much as VR orr 3D was.

Re: Borderlands 4 (PS5) - A Chaotic Return That Shoots Straight, Even if Its Performance Stutters

CielloArc

@Rich33
The game would be solid even without the performance problems, also the performance problems are the same we always have on consoles, which is some frame drops here and there when the show starts to get crazy. I won't even comment on stutter because that's a problem for any Unreal game ever since UE4 dropped almost a decade ago.

This is unlike PC, where the game could have been running on native 1080p/1440p without problems, but not even a xx80/90 card can do that. Imagine spending up to almost 4 grand on a machine and then $70 on a game that can't even run a stable 1080p@60 or 1440p@60 without using upscaling and frame generation? I would be beyond pissed.

Re: 'Sony Seeks an Impermissible Monopoly on Genre Conventions': Tencent Fires Back Over Horizon Rip-Off

CielloArc

@DreadfulDragon
Not even remotely the same thing.
While PoE and Bloodstained share the same aesthetic as Diablo and Castlevania they aren't similar enough as they do not share the same art nor the same artstyle.

It would be same as Konami seeking legal action against Tecmo because Ninja Gaiden (NES) had a similar UI and gameplay as Castlevania (NES) despite the two being two distinct products.

Re: Latest Ghost of Yotei Trailer Is a Quick Hit Before PS5 Launch

CielloArc

I don't know, unlike Tsushima who got me in the first trailer this one isn't doing much to get my attention. It also feels that unlike Tsushima, marketing team isn't doing much to promote the game.

First trailer had me going meh, second one got my attention and then one released like couple weeks ago had me going meh again.

Not only that but the recent comments by a Sucker Punch colaborator who got fired also had me wondering about the quality of Yotei.
