@get2sammyb It will change how they approach the live service part, given that Hermen clearly isn't cut for this kind of thing.
But yeah, you're right about not changing the overall strategy. All in all I think its quite ironic Sony not knowing how to capitalize on their huge IP porfolio despite being a company from a country that is known for doing exactly that.
@Neither_scene What if I told you its a little bit of both? A game made on UE5 without features like Lumen and Nanite should work fine, but most devs won't do that because using Lumen and Nanite saves them time and work, or because the studio lacks tech artists.
Lumen and Nanite aren't fit for games, not without a lot of tweaking, but for movies and animations they work fine.
Not surprised, this is Sony Pictures we are talking about, as long as they breathe they will screw up.
Remember Morbius? Remember how Sony Pictures had to yank the movies from theathers because it was just that bad? Remember the amount of memes we made about the movie?
Well, what most people don't remember is some execs saw the memes and thought we liked the movie, so they spend a couple more millions to put the movie back on theathers, a move that made the movie flop even harder.
I swear, seems like the main requirement to be hired by Sony Pictures is to be rejected by WB for being too incompetent even by WB standards.
@11001100110zero It is "opt in", for a while now some small devs have been complaining about basically being """forced""" to put their game on GamePass if they want to sell on Xbox, otherwise they just skip the platform because it isn't worth the hassle.
Eh, its a pass, while the gameplay looks fun the game doesn't look good. If anyone wants an arcade racing game that has some fun elements, Split/Second is available on Steam, there's also a PS3 and X360 version but idk if its available everywhere.
@TruestoryYep A little bit of both. RE Engine was made with closed area games in mind, it got patched to handle open area games, and it did fine. But open area games and open world games are two different things and require some technical considerations.
The opposite of RE Engine would be Decima, it was made for open world games and it got two titles that weren't open world, one was the debut title for the engine, Killzone Shadow Fall, the other was Until Dawn. KZ was a hit and the other a miss when it came to performance.
I'm starting to think even a DLC Expansion is off the table now. It seems like they can't fix the performance nor they can implement some new monsters, so far we only got three new monsters.
Well, they put out ME Legenday Edition and Dead Space 2023 and while ME did well Dead Space didn't, it missed the sales target by a lot apparently. So yeah, I can kinda guess why EA doesn't want to fund a new remaster/remake.
On the other hand, Bioware isn't doing anything now other than ME4, right? They should have the tools and people to do a DA Legenday Edition.
Is this really a surprise? I mean, Sony has been pretty clear that when it comes to live service it will always be multiplat, albeit it seems that Xbox ports will arrive 18 months later than PC and PS5.
In theory that handheld could work as long they keep the 720p native target. I'm not sold however on the haptics, anything that could drain the battery should be kept away from a handheld.
From my humble perspective, unless its a live service game I don't think we'll be seeing anything first-party on Xbox, be it old or new. It makes no sense, you will probably waste money and time developing a port that won't pay itself back.
Third party games published by Sony on the other hand? They might do it because usually developers build for multiple platforms and try to pitch the idea to those platform holders.
They literally bought two of the biggest publishers in the west, and 90% of their top sellers were games that have been around before Microsoft bought them. Better yet those games would have made into Top 10 even before Microsoft bought them.
I don't see that as a win nor something that they should be proud.
I would like to point out that Sony is the publisher for a lot of third party titles, most of them titles from their Hero Project and some offshots like Marvel Tokkon.
I don't expect to see Uncharted on Xbox or even Switch 2, but Tokkon, Stellar Blade, Lost Soul Aside, Helldivers 2, MLB and the others? Yeah, I can picture that.
Now that the joke is out, they are probably prioritizing Pro to reach that 120Hz when PSSR/FSR is used. But any optimization they do to reach 60 natively can be ported back to base PS5.
I thought this was a weird decision, then I saw Square-Enix and it started to make sense. No one knows how to screw up a re-release better than Square.
nah, doubt there is any money to be made from Xbox.
If there was, Microsoft wouldn't be porting their titles to other platforms and we wouldn't be having articles every odd month telling how much things don't sell on the green side of the console trifecta.
This is why SKG needs to succeed Anyways, this game had the potential to be Helldivers 2 before Helldivers 2 was a thing, gameplay wise it was fine, but the plot and mechanics really pushed people away.
@CutchuSlow A decent modern PC to play something like 2024/2025 titles would cost something between 3-5x the minimum monthly wage there.
Games on Steam are cheaper because, as far I understand, they use a loophole on their tax code that specify PC Software is exempt of some taxes and PC games are a type of PC Software. The same tax exemption doesn't apply to videogames, both software and hardware. Also it appears they are subject of more taxes because, again as far I understand, the word "gaming" there is also related to gambling and gambling has some heavy laws over there.
The more I read the more it seems this is more of a problem that could be solved with clear laws than an economic one, not that the economy there is solid or reliable anyways.
@KundaliniRising333 My brother, they have been eating that loss for the last 3~5 years. USD/BRL is hovering around the 5.60 but it can go as high as 6.20
Sony was operating with a 5.20 to 5.80 margin, which means PS5 games MSRP in Brazil were overall cheaper 15 to 20% cheaper than their counterpart on United States
Fun fact: you can still redeem games by keys because Sony still distributes keys to devs, devs could sell those keys if they wanted to.
@Sakai Honestly? I don't see the problem here, the same happens in a supermarket shelf. Ever picked a product from the top shelf? They paid to be featured there.
This is also the first generation where console manufacturers didn't foot the bill for the first two years, no such thing as subsiding the cost of hardware this time.
It means nothing, Sony will follow through their strategy since it has been working for over 30 years and Microsoft will most likely fail on their strategy again because people who aren't tech savy will get confused and people who are will probably build a PC with SteamOS.
@Questionable_Duck Those games didn't sell because "they were marketed by Microsoft", they sold because P5 became a multimedia hit and the Persona brand finally got mainstream attention, and that was even before ATLUS decided to go multiplat.
If Microsoft marketing was any good they should use it, had a guy last week asking me when Avowed and Hellblade 2 would be out.
@nessisonett I'm not part of the problem, I'm the consumer and any creature siding with SAG-AFTRA is literally bringing more harm to the industry than AI ever will. FFS, this entire strike hasn't been about AI for a while now, it was to secure exclusivity rights for SAG-AFTRA. Negotiations stopped once companies saw that one clause and bailed out.

There are some rumors going around that the game will release on PS Plus. Kinda makes sense since it is releasing on GamePass too.
