As was perhaps expected, Battlefield 6 has been a barnstorming success.
Following a huge pre-launch push from publisher EA, the first-person shooter has broken records for the franchise, including the biggest opening weekend in the series' history.
Most notably, Battlefield 6 has sold over 7 million copies in its first three days on sale.
Furthermore, it has already set a series record for the most concurrent players, and during its opening weekend, achieved over 172 million multiplayer matches and more than 15 million hours watched on streaming services.

The game comprises a single player campaign, a robust suite of multiplayer modes, and Portal, a mode in which players can create and share custom maps and match types.
We've already seen and heard evidence that the game has been doing very well for itself, and now we know for certain that it's a big hit.
"First and foremost we want to thank our players," says Byron Beede, General Manager of Battlefield, in a press release. "Battlefield 6 was built with our fans. From the initial concept through to the implementation of Battlefield Labs and into the record-shattering Open Beta we have been obsessed with player feedback. Together, with our players we've had a singular goal: to craft the best Battlefield ever. And this is just the beginning - our first season of new content is just 12 days away."
Executive Vice President Vince Zampella also shares his thanks and teases the game's first post-launch update. "We never take moments like this for granted, so I want to express our sincere gratitude to our global Battlefield Studios and passionate community that has helped get us to this point," he says. "We appreciate you joining us for Battlefield 6’s momentous launch. We have so much more to come in the weeks ahead."
Season 1 gets underway on 28th October, bringing with it a new map, Blackwell Fields, and a new 4v4 mode named Rogue Ops.

How about console crossplay only as well? Right now its either play with bots with crossplay off or have it on but get destroyed by PC players. Also the balance is way off as most matches will be 90% PC players and 10% console. Its a great game i'm loving it but it can be deflating as hell to be the only console player in a match and constantly be killed because M&K will always be faster and more accurate then my controller.
@RainbowGazelle No one really cares about the mediocre 5 hour single player campaign. Its only usefulness is the cosmetics you unlock from it.
@DennisReynolds I have crossplay off and have never seen bots, but a lot more xbox users than ps users.
@DennisReynolds I have yet to come across bots on PS5 only matches. But I've only played 4 or 5 hours so far so maybe that will change
This is 1m behind the MH: Wilds 3-day opening, but with much better legs. That means it's very likely to be in the top 3 best selling games of the year. Probably no. 1 in Europe but USA will be difficult to finish above CoD.
@WobberleyBob Depends on the mode. Conquest see's more real player but something like Rush see's more bots.
With a comment that won't win me any sympathy, I'll say I find a bit odd that a game about realistic warfare is so popular in the current geopolitical climate. At least we are fighting some kind of scumbag merch corporation in the campaign.
Why is this so popular, guys? Trying to understand.
@DennisReynolds plenty of xbox players to kill in console cross play only. I'm not a big fan of having pc cheaters in the games but I've yet to encounter bots in the online..
Enjoying this immensely. I find it works best as a nice quick fix to pick up and play for a couple of games at a time rather than sinking hours into it. It's a bit exhausting for that. Only minor critique is that it can be a bit one note. It is undeniably a fantastic and very pleasing note but considering how much scope there should be for varied and multifaceted approaches to playing a few of the maps feel a bit samey and the pace/style of matches is a bit repetitious. Also baffles me how little on mic communication there is during gameplay. Guess people just don't want to chat to random players anymore.
This game is epic. I've not been sim racing much since I bought it which is getting me some grief from my fellow rally racers but it is a superb game. Only played a bit of the campaign but that's pretty damn cool too. Could be my game of the year so far but let's see what project motorsport brings next month.
@Nei if you like first person shooters especially military shooters what's not to like? This game takes the BF fans back to when the BF series was at its best and for us that's all it needs. Nobody's going to neg on you because you don't get it as its not for everybody but for those of us that are playing it BF6 just ticks all the right boxes..so far.
The kids want something new. Enjoy! First season is only 12 days away? Should have been included!
It has been great so far, although some matches have been brutal. And Support players not reviving even though no enemy troops near by. Don't recall seeing bots, but only played Conquest. Have noticed quite a few squads of clans, who are usually highly ranked.
@JohnnyShoulder this is my only gripe too in that you have squad members who don't revive or resupply. Playing with randoms I expect this to happen which is why when you have mates who know how to play and know that you have to have different classes to be successful is when the game really shines. The guys I've been teaming up with are good at communicating to each other and even though we are quite crap we are having a laugh and really enjoying it.
That's the kind of news I wanna hear.
Also, nice to see Battlefield clearing the first milestone.
Daaaaang that is sweeeet! Can’t wait to buy this one.
Played around 20 hours now and I must say that we are back boiiiisss. This feels like a sequel to 4 and that is what i was looking for. Loved 1 cause it was something fresh but its good to have a return to just modern form. There is a lot of work they still need to do but the legs are there and if they can actually bring something decent with season 1, I think we got a winner and maybe the first cod dethrone?
@Northern_munkey definitely agree. Been playing since 3 and its good to have some of the sandbox shenanigans back. Mix that was awesome gunplay and its something enjoyable. Do want them to fix hit reg though, some days its fine some days not.
Just completed the campaign - which i personally really enjoyed, and onto multiplayer now, only 2400th in the queue! 😄
@Nei Such a strange comment imo. Are you saying the current geopolitical climate aught to have affected the success of this game? And that you expected people to not enjoy playing it? Can you elaborate, cause it seems like you're conflating things.
It's popular because people are finding it a great multiplayer fps game. Quite as simple as that I'd have thought.
@zimbogamer can't say I've noticed to be honest.
@JustMyOpinion I am overwhelmed by war images coming from all over the world at this particular time so I wouldn’t enjoy something like this at this moment and it surprises me a little it hasn’t affected others. Just projecting my feelings, probably.
@Nei I see where you're coming from. The sheer scale of death, destruction, and violence over the last few year was witnessed by millions in a manner like never before live on TV, was intense.. I can see how some may draw negative connections with a war fps after that experience.
As a society, we have become desensitised to witnessing violence, and so it's understandable why few make the connection with real world events and the game.
Playing fps at this stage has also been around for decades so people are probably accustomed to not making any connections with the two realities, and simply enjoy it as a competitive, social, down time activity.
It's an interesting view for sure though mate.
@RainbowGazelle people buying something does not make them idiots. Be nicer
Was a very interesting sales split on this one and didn’t expect those numbers split wise.
PS5 was 1.5, Xbox 1.2 and Steam at 3.5 million. Steam once again does more than both consoles combined.
I'll "BEE" playing this more tonight! (B for Battlefield)
@Nei, because it’s an entertaining video game, that’s it, not that deep. Just a fun game to play, key word, game. That used to be priority number one, believe it or not. That said, sounds like it’s not for you, and that’s ok, not everything has to be for everyone. 🍻
I'm both happy and sad about this news. Happy because it'll likely make Activision try again and sad because EA is going to milk their new cash cow until the udder is dry.
@RainbowGazelle don’t know why they are “idiots” it’s 2025 and if having a constant online connection is an issue , maybe move village?
@kailun that's not a fair assessment though..why should anybody need a constant online connection for the single player campaign in any game not just this. Its a valid point @RainbowGazelle makes.
Incredible what happens when a developer actually commits to making something special rather than having teams split focus and churn out yearly slop.
@Boxmonkey absolutely. I think this is what Capcom realised after the likes of RE6. "I have a crazy idea guys, how about we make a game the fans would like to play and maybe we'll have better sales as a result?"
Obviously this return to form and a company seemingly taking on board player feedback is a cause for celebration but it still rather begs the question what on earth were they thinking with games like 2042? It's worth remembering through the positive PR blitz that it pays to remain vigilant with these companies because if they can be lazy, cut corners and treat their core player base with total contempt then they will and almost certainly will do it again.
@DennisReynolds I'm with you here turn cross play off and sometimes have 90% bots in a match.
@CheapMerc Done a match earlier with crossplay off and around 70% of the players were bots. I have switched to the SMG now and i'm doing better with crossplay on as the gun is insanely OP and broken right now making all other weapons near pointless.
