Re: Not Everyone Loved Oblivion Remastered's Shadow Drop

CielloArc

Yeah, about that, I'm also a developer and my take on this is basically: while his points are valid, when planning a release date you MUST take into consideration any kind of surprise that might happen on that day.

Even if Oblivion wasn't shadow dropping, it could have been a game that was supposed to release the next week but got brought forward to that day instead. It doesn't happen very often but it does happen.

Also, my brother in christ I've never heard of your game before the whole complaining happened, if anything Oblivion helped you more than your marketing strategy.

Re: PS5's Worst Kept Secret Could Now Be Days Away

CielloArc

Haven't we been hearing this since February and every week is like "Oblivion Remake could drop next week" ?

If you believe this, my brother in Christ, I do not only have a bridge to sell you, I also have the sequel to the acclaimed indie title Hollow Knight.

Basically every US president has to tackle some basic things, mainly the ever increasing debt that generates an ever increasing inflation.
Not only that but with the loss of entry and mid level jobs due to many factors it became almost impossible to balance things out. It also doesn't help that most entry/mid level jobs are related to manufacturing, directly or indirectly.

Tariffs are one way to do that, if applied the right way it should generate enough jobs, the other is putting a hard cap on government expenses and cutting all fat you can find.

I know where Orange man is coming from and why he is doing what he does, what I don't know is if his strategy will work or if it will work as fast as he thinks it will.

"Ubisoft’s lawyers, however, have hit back, arguing there’s no reason for players to believe they were purchasing 'unfettered ownership rights in the game'."

Yeah, about that, they bought a product and expected it to work.
This isn't about ownership rights but rather about selling a product that doesn't work anymore if the company pulls the plug and not offering any compensation when that happens.

Also, if you're going by the ownership rights route one could also argue on court that not only Ubisoft didn't make that explicit, they also sold the product at the same price as similar products that you could really own, which could make this a false advertising case under certain courts.

Re: Talking Point: What Are Your Thoughts on Potential $80 PS5 Games?

CielloArc

Personally? Up to $100 it doesn't affect me since I usually buy one D1 release per quarter and wait for a 35%+ discount on anything else.

But it might affect those that buy more than one newly released game per quarter or even more than one per month.

While I can see why companies need to hike the prices, like, for real we oughta be paying close to $120 according to the last report I saw on development costs x inflation rate since the 90's, I can also see that there is no market for that kind of price because its not benefical for consumers.

Re: Analyst Firm Predicts Some Pretty Unimpressive Sales Numbers for Xbox Ports on PS5

I'd say its different from Sony releasing a game on PC.
For Sony its just extra money in most cases, those games usually sell well enough on Playstation.
For Xbox on the other hand, those games didn't sell enough units on their original target platform, releasing on other platforms is just a way to avert a major loss of revenue, keyword here being revenue because it will most likely not turn into profit.

Also, this is just me but I think the Xbox brand on some titles might hurt sales more than not having it. CoD and Doom gets a pass because most people don't associate those brands to Xbox or Microsoft, same with Minecraft.

One of my coworkers escaped from a country where the government forces a union upon you and you can't opt out, at least not without spending a lot time filing some lawsuits and even then most judges rule against you because "it might hurt the rights of other workers"

I already had a low opinion on unions, hearing his story and reading all this SAG-AFTRA drama just proves to me that unions hurt workers more than a bad company ever will.

In general or just for this kind of scam? In general it is a pretty lenghty process, for this kind of scam it is quite easy:

  • Lets create a company called Fictional Company A Interactive and do the whole process of getting certified, we got approved, got the devkit and even managed to release our game.
  • Despite all that it didn't work out and we filed for bankrupcy.
  • Cue in Scam Company B, they offer to buy our company assets, including IP and trademarks, we sell it.
  • Scam Company B now gets renamed to Fictional Company A Interactive and has access to all the licenses that company had.
  • Scam Company B starts pumping shovelware into stores until it gets caught and banned.
  • Rinse and repeat.

Re: Ubisoft Will Reportedly Fight for Assassin's Creed Shadows, Anti-Harassment Plan in Place

CielloArc

Just remember that Ubisoft isn't in a good financial spot right now, and they NEED this game to be a success despite the PR blunder this whole gig has been.

But I'm sure they'll use lawyer to protect their employees and not to shutdown any negative review, right? Right?

Also, funny how companies that make good games, or at least games with the bare minimum their fans expect, face little to no aggresive backlash from fans. Maybe, just maybe, try doing that next time?

Of course having competition is the best option, but having no competition is actually better than having a competitor in paper only like we have right now.

When you have no competition you face the prospect of people simply not buying your product, so you actually strive to make better products, when you have a competitor in paper only you can get away with lots of thing because the only options are the clearly inferior product and your own product.

Case in point, just look at Nvidia over the years.
You can pinpoint the times where they had competition, the times they didn't have and the times where they had competiton in paper only.
