I think its less of a Horizon hate and more of an Aloy hate.

They could try a Horizon spin-off with a new protagonist not related in any shape or form with Aloy just to see if it works.

It won't affect them because they are a Chinese company, but it would be another whole story if it was a company from another country, mainly Russia.

Gamers wouldn't need to look for an agenda if games nowadays didn't have one.

It also doesn't help the fact that most DEI games aren't the best examples of good games but the exact opposite of that, they are prime examples of what a bad game looks like.

The main problem here is that Microsoft chose a weird route when it came to hardware.
Series S promotes itself as having 10GB of unified memory, but its actually 8GB@224GB/s + 2GB@56GB/s
8GB of unified RAM doesn't cut anymore, even on PC that has dedicated RAM and VRAM you need at least 16GB of RAM and at least 12GB of VRAM to run the most recent games at 1080p/1440p.

Full fledged emulation on PS and Nintendo consoles, as in you pop your old game in the disc drive and play, is impossible due to many factors.

I'd settle for individual games if they ever manage to solve the problems.

You do know that software isn't listed to shareholders as profit until they really turn to profit right? No matter if its God of War or Concord, they are all listed as loss and usually remains like that for a couple of years after release.

They could, but they would lose money on other stuff if they did that.
It would render Sony Music Japan basically incapable of working in the anime industry, which is a huge chunk of their revenue and profit.

Makes sense from a technical standpoint.
They want Kadokawa because its a trove of IPs, however if they buy Kadokawa they might have to give up their spot in most production committees around Japan.

Sony does not own a monopoly because the anime industry in Japan is basically composed of joint ventures.
A committee is responsible for making an anime and members of said committee can't do more than one task.

If Sony buys Kadokawa means that they could act as either the IP holder, music producer, distributor in Japan or distributor overseas, but they have to chose one of those.

Most works in Japan are run by production commitees since the mid-80s
Also, its not a written rule but usually if a company handles the distribution inside Japan they let other company handle the international release.

Case in point, Aniplex does not handle most of international releases from the shows they are part, one example is My Hero Academia where Aniplex is part of the production committee but Toho handles the international distribution.

PS titles run on Steam Deck quite well so I guess it wouldn't be that hard to make a good native version that runs on a 900p screen.

Sony has yet to understand that people overall don't like Horizon as much as they like, say, God of War.

Lego God of War would sell numbers just for the novelty.
If we are talking about Sony IPs compatible with Lego, then it would be better to make a Astro Bot like game, one that pays homage to multiple franchises instead of just one.

People often forget that Sony owns Aniplex, which helps in anime production, and that Kadokawa is the main client of Aniplex.
Getting FromSoftware is just a bonus, the money is at Kadokawa's anime portfolio.

AA games are pretty much dead.
Dev costs aren't exactly cheaper than AAA and you lack the marketing budget.

The industry kinda put itself in this corner.

Keyword here being could.
It isn't a PS Studio title nor it is made by one, this is the first title of a studio that has been doing basically support work for other games.
I wouldn't expect them to receive a Pro devkit in order to develop those features, too much risk involved for a title that isn't worth the trouble.

I mean, YoY hardware sales keeps dropping, GP subscriptions have stalled and the only revenue they have comes from Actvision IPs.
