I just subbed to PS+ for the first time since 2018 to play Battlefield 6 and Everybody’s Golf: Hot Shots with my brother. Getting access to LEGO Horizon Adventures and Neon White is a big bonus for me!
I think it’ll pose a threat, but not a big one. Possibly enough for them to drop the online requirement for online play if the Steam Machine gets popular enough.
It’s really going to come down to the pricing, availability, and future PS games that go to Steam, imo.
I already don’t pay for PS+. The only online sub I pay for is Switch online but that’s mainly just to access the N64, GBA, and GameCube I grew up with. I say drop the subs lol.
Someday I’ll play the first game as I got the Spacer Choice Edition for free on Epic a year or two ago. If I like that, then I’ll pick up the second one. But that could be years from now lol
It looks great. First person games always annoyed me so this is all the reason to go back and properly beat the game now. Very excited for this, especially since it’s free!
I used to buy multiple games a month when I was younger but now I buy about one game every 2 months or so. I just game way less now and money is becoming tighter.
They’ve been cooking with controllers recently. They tempted me with the Ghost of Yotei gold controller and now this. But I already have 3 controllers and I really only need 1, so no more for me. I have the Spider-Man 2, 30th Anniversary, and Astro Bot editions.
I might even sell one of them since my PS5 is only used for single player.
@AinsleyE Yup. IGN barely even reports on news these days since like 90% of their articles are just advertisements, affiliate links, and random rage bait stories.
Most of them don’t care about reporting news or interacting with the community, they simply only care about pickpocketing money from gamers. That’s why I tend to stick with here, nintendolife, and purexbox.
I still have Ghost of Tsushima to play in my backlog of endless games. Should be starting that up sometime this fall. But Yotei looks fantastic so as long as I like Tsushima even a bit, I’ll probably pick up Yotei in the near future
I’ve been playing it a bit this weekend on my PS5 and loving it. That said, I don’t completely disagree with the criticisms in this review. But I’m a sucker for very basic 3D platformers and collect-a-thons.
They’re one of the perfect types of the games to turn your brain off and vibe to. Plus I used to play the original back at my neighbor’s house like 20+ years ago so I have some nostalgia for it. To me it’s amazing, but it’s amazing for what it is: a simple and standard 3D platformer.
I played through about two thirds of the games then got bored, but it was fun til then. I just think the game overstayed its welcome without presenting any new ideas or interesting plot points.
I’ll be jumping back in with this third-person update. I vastly prefer third-person games, so that paired with taking a long break actually has me excited to jump back in.
My time of “competitive” online gaming has long passed so I don’t really mind either way (unless PC players are using obvious cheats).
That said, I’ll probably be playing on PC since I really don’t want to pay $80 for PS+ each year. Gaming has just become too expensive to warrant another premium priced subscription. So I’ll be on PC but with a controller. Ideal? Probably not. Fun for me? Absolutely lol.
This all actually sounds pretty good to me. The modern day segments were always silly and a waste of time, in my opinion.
I also don’t mind the RPG mechanics as long as the actual gameplay, story, and pacing are about the same. Leveling up and being able to learn new moves could be fun. Not saying it’ll make the game better, but I don’t mind it.
I was born in 97 so I didn’t get to experience the launch of the system, plus I was born in a “Nintendo” household. But as I’ve gotten older I’ve played some PS1 classics and it’s an amazing system.
Some of the best games I’ve played in recent years are actually remakes of PS1 games (Spyro trilogy, Crash trilogy, Final Fantasy VII, Resident Evil trilogy)!
It’s funny. I always thought Sly Cooper and Jak and Daxter were top tier, while I thought Ratchet and Clank was good but not particularly great. I guess I was in the minority cause Ratchet and Clank is the only series that didn’t die lol.
That said, I did think Rift Apart was substantially better than the previous games.
I know this is a PlayStation site but given I’ll be playing Hollow Knight Silksong on GamePass, I thought I’d just post this. My GamePass expires in right under 3 months. The order of games I’m planning to play through is:
Gears of War Reloaded -> Hollow Knight -> Hollow Knight Silksong -> Hi-Fi Rush -> Expedition 33
@Splash_Woman Agreed. I never liked first-person cameras in any game. Doesn’t feel anymore immersive to me unless it’s VR (which I don’t even like to begin with) and if anything it pulls me away from the characters since I don’t see them.
Additionally, it just makes seeing things in game more difficult and makes it feel less cinematic or “video game-y”. I pretty much always prefer third-person, regardless of the creator’s intent. Just my personal preference, of course.
I swear this game was announced like 2+ years ago and it’s still apparently far away. These companies should stop announcing games so early cause I can’t care about a game that feels like it’ll never come out.
That controller goes hard. Legit one of the bc oldest controllers I’ve seen. Console solvers are sweet, too. Shame I don’t have the slim or pro. Or maybe a good thing so I’m not tempted to drop money lol.
I’ll play it on gamepass since I’m still “fathered in” to it til the end of November. I’m really stoked but also don’t want to give them a full sale for the game since they butchered Pro Skater 4.
This is like the biggest monkey paw situation, and I guarantee if this doesn’t sell as well as the previous game then they’ll can the series again
@ItsAlwaysSunnyyy I didn’t sign up for this feels trip 😭. I’m so sorry to hear about your loss. My brother got Backyard Baseball on Steam a couple months ago and it brought us great memories from our childhood. I hope the game does the same for you with your friend. Godspeed.
As a huge Mario Kart fan, Sonic Racing Crossworlds will be a great substitute. The beta was a ton of fun and I’ll be picking it up when it releases later this year.
I’ll get Mario Kart World too, just not sure when due to the uncertainty of console/game pricing due to the tariffs.
Agreed with all of this. Most publicly-traded companies get greedy as they perform better, and Nintendo has shown they’re getting greedier than other companies in many ways with the Switch 2.
I will say, there are some pro-consumer moves. All old controllers will work on the new system, so there’s no need to spend $200+ on a set of 4. There’s also a lot of “free” content for users who already have the online plan. And the system, while not cheap, is fairly priced given the competition of other handheld devices like the Steam Deck and RoG Ally. Remember, you do get everything you need to plug it into your tv/monitor, plus a controller for TV use.
That being said, it still isn’t cheap. It’ll surely price a lot of people out, and I’m curious how they’ll make things cheaper when generation 10 Pokemon releases. It’ll be hard for young kids to convince their parents to get them an $450 console before tax. And that $80 price tag for Mario Kart is ridiculous, imo. And making the tech demo PAID is a literal joke.
In short, both companies do things a bit better than others. I’d argue PS5 is a bit better with this at the moment. But it’s also been out for 4 and a half years, and inflation has only gotten worse.
It’s lame but I’m still kinda thankful considering games used to be like $60-$80 back in the 90’s, which would be about $110-$155 today. So prices are high… but still somewhat affordable, for me personally. I’ll just be way more selective on which games I get and wait for certain titles to drop in price. Still love my PS5 and I’m looking forward to the Switch 2.
I still haven't played it. I got my first Playstation in fall of 2018. The Spider-Man PS4 Pro so I could play the new Spider-Man and delve into some of the classics I missed out on over the years. I remember ordering Bloodborne in holiday of 2019 during Black Friday and my order got cancelled. I decided to wait for it to go back on sale when I finished my current game que.
Then the PS5 got announced and eventually came out. I decided to wait until a PS5 upgrade, remaster, or remake. Still waiting, obviously. I really hope Bluepoint Games, the developers of the Demon's Souls remake, is currently finishing up a remake of Bloodborne. Probably not, but I hope lol.
@nessisonett Damn, I didn’t realize how much longer and crazier the goals were in Pro Skater 4 since I never played it. Why they’d get rid of all that is beyond me. Hopefully they find a way to keep most of it somehow.
4 is the only one of the Pro Skater titles we didn’t have growing up so this doesn’t bother me. But as someone who’s really into game design and offering flexible game options, this baffles me. Why not have a timer mode and a non-timer mode?
Regardless, this doesn’t change anything for me and I’m still hyped. But I can see why people who grew up playing 4 would be upset by this. It’s just a weird design decision.
I didn't watch it but just looked up what was announced and watched the trailers I cared about. Seemed like it was an okay event. Not great but no bad. I'm personally very excited for Sonic Racing Crossworlds and the Metal Gear remake.
I’m not sold on this game, but if it reviews well (critics and fans), I might pick it up when it gets cheaper. I only care to play as Naoe since I want stealth/assassin gameplay. I don’t care for beat em ups.
This patch will finally make me get the game. My brother has it on PS5 and we want to play cross-play, but $80 a year on top of the generally higher price for the game on console was too big of an investment to me for a game I’m unsure I’d like.
This way, I can get it on PC for like $48 and play with my brother, instead of like $136 on console. Looking forward to finally giving this game a go sometime soon!
@Northern_munkey Absolutely fair point. PC gaming can be a pain to get to work after updates, and while I never had issues with Ubisoft titles, they seem to be a big culprit to others drowning on the rig and updates.
I tried to get my friend I hadn’t seen in a while to play Sonic Adventure 2 on my PC the other week. Despite playing it fine LEGIT 5 DAYS BEFORE, it just kept crashing on startup no matter what. My PC works like 98% of the time… but those rare cases are a head banger and I get why others stick to console. I feel very grateful to have both!
Seems like a complicated issue. Without knowing all the technical specifics, Microsoft seems to have broke these games but Ubisoft should still be ensuring their games still work that they sold to people. Technology is getting too complicated these days lol
I think it’s right around where it belongs. It’s a great game but there few titles I’d put over it. It’s crazy looking back and seeing how many amazing games released in 2024.
This is going to be the busiest holiday season for me. Basically from tomorrow til the 29th I’ll have nearly zero personal time, and when I do it’ll be working lol. The second the 29th hits I’m gonna mostly be chilling at home and gaming for the next few days. I love being around people but I’m gonna need that personal time to relax and tackle my backlog some more!
I hate being that guy but this article is pure clickbait. The title implies that they’re not supporting the game at all anymore, aka, shutting the game down. Yet in the article you say they’re just stopping development for seasons and they’re still supporting the servers and online infrastructure.
The only time I ever watch someone play a game is when I’m over my brother’s place and he’s in the middle of a single player game. I think watching streams is super boring and I could never get into it.
That said, I do listen to some YouTubers that talk about games as “talking head” videos while I clean, drive, or work. Basically treat them like a podcast.
Glad to hear this. Sometimes DLC can be worth it but more often I’d prefer the devs to focus on the next entry. Hopefully the wait for Part 3 won’t be too long.
I was actually happy to hear that Spider-Man 2 wasn’t getting DLC. I thought the DLC for the first game was mediocre and I’d rather them focus their work on Wolverine, Venom, Spider-Man 3, etc.
It has a 70 flat on metacritic. From what I’ve read it seems alright. My backlog is already humongous so I’ll probably wait to get it until it’s $20 or so.
Cool they added the option but imo it just makes it look super cartoony. But I’m also someone who’s never played these games so I don’t have nostalgia for the original visuals at all.
