Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora didn't set the world on fire when it released for PS5 in December 2023, but ever since then, it feels like the positive buzz around it has only grown. This sounds like the best time to give it a chance, in fact, thanks to a third expansion confirmed to go alongside the big update arriving at the end of the year.

This third piece of add-on content, titled From the Ashes, will release on 19th December 2025, which is the same day as the third film, Avatar: Fire and Ash. As the season pass content for the game has now concluded (it offered two pieces of DLC), From the Ashes will be offered as an additional purchase for all players. There'll also be a new physical release bundling the base game with this new expansion.

"From the Ashes takes place shortly after the events of the main game and takes you on the journey of So’lek, a battle-hardened Na’vi warrior from the Trr’ong clan," is the setup. "Ambushed and left for dead by the RDA and their new allies, the ruthless Ash clan, So’lek awakens to a world in flames and his Sarentu family scattered."

The previously confirmed update for Avatar on PS5 will presumably also launch on the same day. It's bringing a third-person mode and New Game+ to the title. To make sure the transition from first-person to third-person works correctly (if you select it), Ubisoft has "reworked animations, controls, audio, and camera systems to ensure the experience feels seamless and intuitive".

If you're quick about it, you can still buy Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora at a 75% discount on the PS Store. Until midnight on 24th September, you can get the base game for just £17.49 / $17.49 or the Ultimate Edition, including the first two expansions, for £28.74 / $32.49. You'll then be completely ready for the update and third DLC arriving in December.
