It’ll do well. I don’t think it’ll get close to PS4 Pro numbers but I don’t think PlayStation is expecting that. My guess is they’ll get larger profit margins off this model, especially for those who get the disc drive add-on. Just a guess tho.
Played it today before the football game and it’s incredible so far. I expected it’d review well, but I didn’t expect it to be the highest rated game of the year (other than the Elden Ring expansion). Stoked to play more!
It looks so clean! My game came today but the controller just says it’s still processing the order… so much for pre-ordering within the first 30 minutes possible lol. No big deal tho, it’ll get here when it gets here. In the meantime, the game is amazing!
Kinda crazy to me how a 77 on metacritic is seen as “just okay” these days. Not saying it looks amazing but there’s really only one negative review from Eurogamer and everything else is, for the most part, around the 7-9 range.
I know the article goes into a bit more detail on the criticisms but it seems like a mostly well received game to me lol.
I know it’s part of the idea that the controller is a robot but the eyes just seem really off putting. Shame because I love the rest of the design. Wish the touchpad just had Astro’s face or some symbol.
If they release the controller that Astro Bot uses in that demo as a special edition, I’d definitely snag that as I need a second dualsense. I’d even consider getting a console cover of it, too.
Never played them (unless you consider Monster Hunter) but I have had Elden Ring and Hollow Knight in my backlog for a while now, along with wanting to try Another Crab’s Treasure on gamepass. We’ll see if I like em lol.
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth with Stellar Blade behind it. Helldivers is a lot fun but I’m still shocked how much people have it as their game of the year. I thought it got repetitive after a few hours.
I got the game when all my buddies did and although I had fun with it for a good 8 hours or so, it is super repetitive. Not enough enemy, gameplay, or mission variety for a live service game… especially one you need to pay for. It’s a good game but I never thought it was something to write home about.
My picks are Astro Bot, LEGO Horizon Adventures, Star Wars Outlaws, and The Plucky Squire. There are a few other games I’m keeping an eye on but there really isn’t a fifth game that I’m excited for that’s on PlayStation. Which isn’t a problem, I have other systems and my trusty backlog lol.
The second half of the year is starting to look good. Astro Bot, LEGO Horizon Adventures, Star Wars Outlaws, and Indiana Jones (Xbox) are the big games for me. I might even give Black Ops 6 a go since it’ll be on GamePass.
But it’s looking good for the PS5. Glad more creative and silly fun titles like Astro Bot and LEGO Horizon Adventures get time to shine this fall.
Cool that it’s coming to Switch. I’ll be picking up a PS5 copy for myself. Sony may not have any “big story” games this fall/holiday, but Lego Horizons and Astro Bot are all I need. I love me some silly fun and creative games like these.
I completely forgot Project 007 was a thing. Hopefully we see it this month, I loved the 007 games from the late 90’s and early 2000’s back in the day.
This is all I need from PlayStation for the rest of the year. I love 3D platformers and games that focus on silly, creative fun. This is bursting with all of that. I’m stoked.
I love my Series X but the Hellblade games are basically slightly interactive movies with really slow pacing. They’re technical marvels but not a whole lot of fun imo once you get past the visual wow-factor.
PS5-only owners aren’t really missing out. Stellar Blade, Helldivers 2, and Final Fantasy VII Rebirth are way more enjoyable games to me.
Reading the comments on all these sites has been rather interesting. My only gripe with Yasuke is his play style. My favorite parts of Assassin’s Creed are the parkour, stealth, and assassinations. But we have the other protagonist for that, so I’ll just wait for the gameplay reveal. Looks interesting, though.
@MrBook Maybe every game I get just has an update that isn’t required but they’re pretty large. That being said, I do remember my copies of Avatar and CyberPunk came with 2 discs… although my CyberPunk copy is for XBOX One so it doesn’t have the Series X data on disc lol.
Don’t most (not all, but most) games come like this nowadays? And even if you can “technically” play them without an update, you’re missing so much content that it’s basically a beta?
I think other than a few Nintendo titles like Mario Wonder, there’s usually a fat patch waiting for me when I put in a cartridge or disc for the first time nowadays.
Not saying I support this stuff but I don’t really see how this is a surprise at all.
@trev666 Exactly this. There are too many live service games that are meant to be played forever. Single player games don’t have this problem since you beat the campaign, maybe do some side or post game content, then move onto the next game.
Some can be successful like Helldivers, but they’re very few and between these days since the live service space is so oversaurated.
@Yorozayu Agreed. If it wasn’t selling well, the game would’ve been on sale or dropped in price. After nearly 2 months, I don’t think I’ve seen any price decrease or sale. It’s clearly selling well, even if not as well as Square or news outlets expected.
I haven’t been into Assassins Creed in a while, but a more open, current gen game in Feudal Japan, a remake of Black Flag, and a more traditional title with supernatural abilities… it all seems pretty interesting. Looking forward to hearing more about these projects.
Seems like it’s potentially a lot more powerful than I was expecting. Still sticking with my current Spider-Man PS5 that I got last October, though. Games still look great on it. I’d only consider upgrading if I could get it dirt cheap with a trade-in, which I doubt would be an option.
Damn, wish I could return my copy of Stories 2 I bought in December on PC. I got it to play over my mini winter break but didn’t even get around to touching it. I’d much rather play it on my living room TV on my PS5.
I’d hope Gravity Rush Remastered gets PS5 enhanced and maybe a reprint as well. They’re great games and I’d purchase the original without a doubt as I only have the VITA version and prefer TV play these days.
The second one I could be convinced, just depends if they allow $10 upgrades or if I’ll need to chalk $50+ on it.
I tried the demo and while the performance mode looked a bit blurry, I just raised the sharpness on my TV and it looked great after. Any improvements are welcome, of course.
It looks great but there are too many games I’m playing at the moment. I have it on my wishlist and I’ll pick it up later this year when I clear my current lineup and it’s cheaper.
Agreed it should have been there day 1 but I’m glad they finally added it. I picked up a copy of this game on clearance a few years ago and never got around to it, so now I can play through the campaign and it won’t just be a glorified demo disc.
I know GT7 is better but I’d rather play this first. Good stuff!
I usually don't care much for State of Plays but this one was definitely a good one for me. I didn't know much about Stellar Blade before but the game looks great. I never played Death Stranding before but the sequel looks interesting, maybe I'll finally give that free copy I got on Epic Games a go. Also, Kojima making another "Metal Gear" style game sounds cool, even if that's something that's 5-10 years away lol. Sonic Generations remake looks cool and the Shadow DLC is welcome. Metro Awakening VR has potential, too.
Overall... not incredible but a very good showing.
I usually would say I’m tired of remakes but I really enjoyed Black Flag. I would definitely pick up an updated version with better textures, lighting, and 4k60.
"But as people embrace that model, they will see that these games will exist, the service will continue, and you'll be able to access them when you feel like. That's reassuring."
They say this as they permanently delete The Crew from existence lol.
@XenonKnight As someone that loves a lot of Microsoft’s exclusives… I gotta agree. Sea of Thieves was nothing but a slow paced game around a barren world with boring combat. I was surprised to see so much hype around at the time. I stopped playing after a few hours and my friends that got me to play it stopped shortly after.
The visual enhancement might not be much, but $10 for it plus some lost levels, guitar free play, and a new rouge-like mode sounds like a good deal to me.
There’s not a whole lot I’m looking forward to this year but that just makes this a backlog year, which I’m cool with. I’m sure more games I’m interested in will be announced, anyway.
Here is what I’m looking forward to:
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth (PS5)
Star Wars Outlaws (PS5/XSX)
Shantae Advance (PS5/XSX)
Luigi’s Mansion 2 HD (Switch)
Paper Mario TTYD (Switch)
There are a few other titles I’m keeping an eye on but those 5 titles are all I'm really excited for lol.
It’s been very good. Now that I'm older, I have the luxury of owning every game console but less time to game. And now that gaming is bigger than ever, there are more games to play than ever before.
Taking all that in to account, this has been a great new generation for me. The PS5 exclusives have been great. They look and play awesome on my TV set. This could all be because of the whole “more games, less time” thing, but it’s been a fun ride for me. Great console.
Insert GIF of the Joker saying “You get what you f$cking deserve”
Seriously, chasing a sailing ship that no one wants to be on anymore. What a shameful business practice and worst of all, the devs will probably pay the price and not the executives making the crappy decisions.
The world of game development seems scary with these terrible practices and consistent layoffs.
Super excited. But I’m leaving for vacation to visit some friends the night it comes out and will be gone til Tuesday. So the earliest I will play it is Tuesday night after work.
I’m trying to forget the game exists until that Tuesday lol
I’ll snag it once it hits the $20-$30 mark. I like the more condensed and assassin focused games over the “open-world RPG” fluff of the newer titles. So yeah, this seems up my ally. Just not for $50 with all the other blockbuster releases coming out now.

5/10 lol, love that there’s a leaderboard now for these. Do them more often!

Re: Check Out a Full 10 Minute Star Wars Outlaws Quest on PS5
@RagnarLothbrok I got Avatar: Frontiers of Pandora for $30 off less than a week after it released lol. Hoping I can do a similar thing with Star Wars.
Re: Talking Point: What's Your PS5 Game of the Year for 2024 So Far?
Final Fantasy VII Rebirth with Stellar Blade behind it. Helldivers is a lot fun but I’m still shocked how much people have it as their game of the year. I thought it got repetitive after a few hours.

Re: PS5, PC Shooter Concord Appears to Be a $40 Game
Seems like a bad business model for a mid looking game in a market over saturated by the same stuff.
I couldn’t care less about this game, but I find Sony’s decision making with this title interesting lol.
Re: Big New PS5, PC Shooter Concord Has an Uphill Battle Ahead of It
I couldn’t get into Overwatch back in the day and I don’t care for live service games or hero shooters that require a ton of learning.
This and Marvel Rivals looked almost identical to Overwatch. No interest here.

I’m waiting until later in the year but I’m excited to eventually play it. It looks like a lot of fun so it’s good to see it’s reviewed and sold well.
Re: Poll: Which Xbox Franchises Would You Buy on PS5?
I have a Series X so probably nothing. But next gen, I’d definitely just get a PS6 and get all the XBOX titles on that.
