@BansheeNorn my Xbox Series X does this too. That's not why I play PlayStation. I buy new technology to play new games that use that technology. Just like I don't expect an ipod to be able to play my old cassette tapes.
@Snake_V5 I see what you're getting at. For me gaming is just about games. I don't get a massive amount of time to play them with kids so it's important to me for those small pockets of time that I'm playing something I really enjoy.
Game Pass would have been the perfect model for me when I was in college and university when I had bags of time to play. Each time I've used Game Pass I've felt like I flick between different games which is great for exploration but when it comes down to it I just want to sit down and enjoy playing a single game.
I think both MS and Sony are targeting value for money but they are just going about it a different way. MS are using subscription to provide a curated library of games for their players whereas Sony are more focused on delivering unique and immersive experiences.
Sony are trying to move forward with new experiences (VR, Dualsense) and that to me is great. As long as they keep moving forward I will buy a playstation but if we get to the point where its the same output over and over again then who knows which console I might favour in the future.
@Snake_V5 they don't really need an answer to Game Pass. They develop excellent games that will never sit on GamePass. People can toot all they want about Xbox Games on GP day one but I will only care about it when MS make truly great games. For now that's not the case so I am happy to continue to pay for games I want to play.
I have Game Pass and a Series X and I still gravitate towards my PS5. Just finished God of War recently and can't wait for Ragnarok.
@Chief_Forasteiro regardless of those mistakes they are still here and the player base increased from that learning. Console price was right this time round and as far as we know there isn't an issue with the development kit either.
There is no indicator that we should be worried at least for now.The truth is it is too soon to say how well Sony are doing and anything otherwise is clickbait I feel.
@get2sammyb great article. I'm glad I'm not the only one who can't see why these Nostradamus doomsday preachers are gathering around Sony screaming "it's the end".
Some people just like to jump on whatever is trending and apparently the end of Sony and the diversity of their IP is the hype at the moment.
Sony have been developing the PlayStation brand for over 25 years. I'd like to think they know what they are doing.
New IP coming to PS5. Thought I'd see what people thought of that in the comments as this type of news is always exciting and I'm genuinely interested in what people think.
Every article seems to breeding the same comments over and over. Doom and gloom, Sony are worrying us and just negative stuff in general. Some people seriously need to take their head for a wobble.
This is meant to be a good thing but naysayers will have their way. I finished God of War for the first time and I loved it. If I get more IP's like this then I have nothing to worry about. Everyone churns the same stuff out each year anyway. How many people are complaining about another Halo or another Mario game? Nobody...
The "who is winning" conversation at the moment seems to be driven by the narrative as opposed to content delivery. Microsoft are talking a lot but Sony are making better first party games. If you want your console manufacturer to be very vocal then MS are winning in the space because they are marketing the hell out of gamepass and Xbox Studios. When it comes to first party content Sony is winning because they have proven time and time again that they have nurtured their development teams to allow them the freedom of creativity to produce some of the best games we have seen in a long time.
Does this mean Microsoft won't produce excellent first party games going forward? No. Does this mean Sony will never talk to its fanbase and not keep them informed? No. We are only half a year into the console generation and people are making out like these super large companies who are making billions are doomed.
I don't understand what we are trying to win here? The consumer getting the best value is the big win in my opinion and the competition between both MS and Sony is fierce which means we stand to benefit greatly as a community of gamers. If one side wins then we all lose because everything will become standardised with lack of diversity.
Never understood the console wars and the fight between the "xbots" and "ponies" but I'm certain they speak for the minority of the gaming community. They are just so damn loud!
@BrainHacker I agree. It seems the outlets and harcore fans have the idea that only one method if playing games can exist where both can coexist. People who want to buy games will continuento buy games and those who like the sub option will go with gamepasd or ps now or whatever.
@BrainHacker 100% I have both and have 3 years of gamepass but don't seem to want to use it. I think I sit in the category of gamers that think gamepass is a great idea and good value but ultimately I know what I want to play which is why I end up buying games on my PS rather than browsing gamepass.
@Robinsad they don't owe us anything in this arena though... I bought my PS5 so I could play more of the great games that Sony have released over the last few years. They don't owe us any news on a response to gamepass. If anyone bought a PS5 expecting Sony to deliver a ganepass alternative then I would argue who is insane. They've given us the line up of games and keep adding them. Yes they are being quiet at the moment and it seems to be frustrating people but they owe us s**t.
Too many entitled gamers recently... what happened to the good old surprise!?!?
@R1spam not saying you are right or wrong here but I wouldn't count myself as an apologist yet the £70 price tag doesn't bother me. Not because I'm super rich or because I see any gaming company as my sports team as you put it. I would say I have a certain expectation that games will always get better and use improved technology to deliver evolved experiences. Am I under the impression that I should have a better experience for the same price as the previous gen? No. However what I will say is that any gaming experience that offers similar if not the same experience as the previous generation for an inflated cost because it sits on another system won't see a penny from me at least not at retail prices.
I think looking at the price tag in a one dimensional view of being an affordable price or too expensive isn't what this should be about but more is the perceived value of the game worth the price they are asking for which will vary from player to player.
@zekepliskin can't really agree with that one. Might be down to the simplicity I expect in an OS but I find the difference between my series x OS and PS5 OS to be faster on the Sony console and less prone to errors. Xbox is full of bloat too and everything is menu within menus.
To each their own I guess but when it comes to a sleek UI experience Xbox ranks bottom for me. I hate that you are forced to view ads and you can modify the UI but cannot remove these ads.
I don't like Jim but I feel that if Sony are saying its not sustainable for them then surely they know what is right for them and their development costs etc.
Who cares if it's on Gamepass? If MS want to spend a crap load of cash to make their sub appealing then that's up to them? Why shouldn't these business be able to transact the way they want to? This sense of entitlement we have towards games and the platforms they sit on is just backwards. Above everything else MS and Sony are businesses and are here to make money. They don't care whether you think their games should sit on the competitions platform or not.
At the end of the day what has really changed? If you want it you pay the price. I suppose I just don't get how hung up people are getting with what MS are doing it's a different journey.
I don't know why people complain so much. We've had great games for a few months now and even Soul Storm on release is great for the amount we pay for plus.
There is really no pleasing some people. The selection is never going to be a bunch of games that nobody has or everyone likes as a guarantee. To say this is a poor effort is crazy and shows how spoiled we've been in the past.
The only series I would miss is Elder Scrolls but considering Skyrim came out almost 10 years ago and the next installment is nowhere to be seen I don't think I will be missing many elder scrolls games anyway. I got my xbox series x but I seriously can never be bothered playing it... gamepass is great for a lot of people but I just don't think it's the model for me which is crap considering I've bought 3 years of it XD
@Col_McCafferty shame really it's just an opinion and everyone is entitled to one. I can see both sides of the argument. I love the Sony exclusives but I don't love them because they are exclusive. Seems like the middle ground would be timed exclusivity.
I like the idea. Bigger audience, bigger studio budget blah blah. Plus it shows Sony as a game development studio rather than just a hardware manufacturer. I'm just waiting for the stones from those who disagree now...
@Vladspartan I also have both and can confirm this is false. I use my XSX to access gamepass for demos now and if I like the games I buy them on my PS for a better experience...
Comparing it to selling farmers milk is a bit OT. The farmers use the distribution channels that the supermarkets have because they don't really have the means. Scalping is taking away from something that is already easily accessible by the consumer (taking stock levels out of this) and charging a premium for it.
I was lucky enough to get mine at launch but I really feel for those who feel they need to pay way above the RRP to get one. I know it it miniscule in comparison to the stock being sold at RRP but it is still a joke. Especially during a pandemic when people need to escape from boredom!
@Woogy yeah mine has been fine too and I'm using it for remote play also. Seems like you got a bad batch or something maybe? (Watch mine break tomorrow now 😆).
I am praying that it doesn't get that horrible analogue stick material falling apart like the first batches of DS4...
@Hyperluminal 100% on this. Japan has moved more into the handheld/Mobile space. Anything that can be played on commute is a big win. The market has changed, nobody abandoned anyone.
@Artelous but there are games pal? There's not a massive library of new stuff but there needs to be a console for developers to start developing for it. I think I saw this as a little bit of new stuff and some improved old stuff that I have yet to play. For some this is a nice upgrade like upgrading your PC parts to enjoy the games you want at higher res/frames etc with the prospect of being able to play the latest releases.
I feel very lucky to have secured both series x and ps5 with whats going on with stock right now but I did a preorder with Shopto back in June otherwise I don't think I would have got either of them.
Hopefully Sony are able to deliver a lot of the demand before Christmas although the fact that some couriers are now stealing consoles is the next challenge to deal with even after people secure one...
@clvr I dunno I see what you're saying with point 3 but I always saw it as allowing people to not play particular portions of the game so they could focus on the story. As you say its bad for enthusiasts but the casual gamer can lap it up.
I personally miss the days where everything was unlocked ingame or paid DLC (large scale).
@NorrinRadd I mean I didn't spend as long as you in Odyssey but I agree. I levelled up naturally so never fell there was any pay wall behind finishing the game. I think these type of transactions are OK for those who don't have so much free time and want to splash a bit of cash to enjoy the game at a faster pace.
I think those who want to spend less time in the game and finish in under 30 hours are probably going to have problems with this though.
@Bdbrady 100% with you on this. I enjoyed it so much and thought it was so full of action I didn't notice any blemishes and the character detail was amazing.
@get2sammyb that is the advantage I am banking on with this feature. Play my SP stuff and then when friends want a few rounds of MP without having to worry about saving.
From what I have seen on xbox reviews it works really well albeit a little buggy at the moment following some crashes.
@Insightful you are actually a troll and everything that is wrong with gaming. You account for 0.1% of gamers who jump on comments board to s**t talk the competition. Don't worry Xbox will do fine this generation they have been doing their homework and they will take a big chunk of market share. You don't need to come here to try and make anyone feel bad about buying into a brand that last gen sold over 110 million units. They feel pretty good about what they are buying into and everyone's personal choice is their best choice.
You in my opinion just need to ask yourself why you feel the need to waste your time cheering on Xbox and spreading poison about Sony. Are you that desperate? Are you that worried about the performance of Xbox? F**k the "console war" and f**k the fanboys.
I have bought both, will play both and enjoy both. Dont need your petty high-school BS. Run along little one.
I can see a lot of big bad Sony comments on this board. Seems to me that all of the information isn't there to make a judgement. Sony denied them but why? Doesn't say anything about a reason. Some people judge way too quickly which makes me glad I don't know some of them!
If Sony are denying for greed then yeah " F**k you Sony". Until I know why I will reserve my judgement.
@TheFrenchiestFry he probably is nice but like Jim Ryan they spout a fair amount if garbage. They are just mouthpieces for the companies I get that but they don't half U-Turn on a lot of the things they say to the public.
But I also respect that these guys got these consoles to where they are today (Andrew House for Sony too). Now that MS is packing some studios I think we are in for a good generation.
@Constable_What wow what a nerve I must have poked for such a response! I know you shouldn't take them literally but it should also be relevant and in context which yours was not. Instead you resorted to an extreme analogy and it was poor.
How can this mean I am a sheep? Because I understand value? You seem like an angry person who has spat their dummy out because one person has their own opinion that doesn't align with your own. Your expectation is that something should get better but should cost the same.
What I perceive as value may be very different to your own perception.
I would like to hear your proposed solution for being able to play the games you want to play on day one without paying the full price ticket.
You also haven't explained anything to me other than the fact you don't want to pay for the increase in price of games. Thats fine and nobody will care if you don't buy them. Calling me a sheep or anything doesn't change the fact that they will be increasing and we will have to pay that price. You need to get a grip son and stop crying.
@Constable_What he isn't saying its a defence he is saying other developers are already exploring this option. Even Ubisoft are going to change it after their next batch of releases. Most people will pay it reluctantly. For the record this is nothing like punching old women in the face. The last increase was over a decade ago we had it coming.
@Agramonte agreed. I am getting PS5 from day one and look forward to next gen titles but absolutely support cross-gen in the interim whilst the community migrates to the later hardware.
Those who are struggling with this basic transition period which has been present since the beginning just hold your nut until you are ready to move.
The people quoting the "we believe in generations" quote have misinterpreted this to mean a hard stop on PS4 sales and straight into PS5. Use your own brain to see how that would never work.
@nessisonett salty much. There is always a transition between generations get a grip. Why would business in the right mind ignore over 100 million potential buyers for something so trivial?
@get2sammyb I don't think everyone has to think the same which is what you seem to be implying. I'm fine with the information I have. I have a lot of faith having bought all of Sony's console and I pretty much know what to expect. I only care about the games and how they perform and I have enjoyed how they have performed this generation so next gen should be better.
Others need to know every bit of info possible and there is nothing wrong with that. I don't think it needs an article and I think because Microsoft is communicating a lot with consumers it puts Sony in a bad light. What we have to remember is that MS has a lot to build up on for next gen so they are trying to grow their base.
You are right to be unhappy not having the information you need to satisfy your purchase but I doubt it needs an article about it and I am confused how anyone has these complaints yet secures a preorder. The information is clearly enough to want to spend the money?
@Eadgar gamepass is a good deal but I worry about the industry as a whole with this model. Devlopers don't seem to be incentivised the same way they do when they have to sell their game potentially removing what makes some games unique. Its like getting paid before the job is done but I guess we will see.
I think what worries me from a Bethesda standpoint is how little I care. I loved Oblivion and New Vegas but thanks to later games they released I don't think I would care if I never played any of their games again. Especially when there are so many excellent developers out their now.
Let's hope MS actually nurture this developer this time around otherwise RIP Zenimax studios.
@suikoden I think its entitled gamers to be fair. If they didn't do a remaster at all would we be at Sony's door angry with pitchforks calling for an improved version. Nobody is forcing gamers to pay for the new spiderman just play the ps4 version on the ps5 with improved frames and resolution.
On what planet is asking for money for a remaster any form of arrogance?

Re: Fans Are Trying to Figure Out if PS5 Has Quick Resume
@get2sammyb that is the advantage I am banking on with this feature. Play my SP stuff and then when friends want a few rounds of MP without having to worry about saving.
From what I have seen on xbox reviews it works really well albeit a little buggy at the moment following some crashes.
Re: Another Indie Dev Suggests Sony's Denying PS Store Sale Requests
Re: Another Indie Dev Suggests Sony's Denying PS Store Sale Requests
I can see a lot of big bad Sony comments on this board. Seems to me that all of the information isn't there to make a judgement. Sony denied them but why? Doesn't say anything about a reason. Some people judge way too quickly which makes me glad I don't know some of them!
If Sony are denying for greed then yeah " F**k you Sony". Until I know why I will reserve my judgement.
Re: Bethesda Games Are Looking Increasingly Unlikely on PS5
@TheFrenchiestFry he probably is nice but like Jim Ryan they spout a fair amount if garbage. They are just mouthpieces for the companies I get that but they don't half U-Turn on a lot of the things they say to the public.
But I also respect that these guys got these consoles to where they are today (Andrew House for Sony too). Now that MS is packing some studios I think we are in for a good generation.
Re: Bethesda Games Are Looking Increasingly Unlikely on PS5
@TheFrenchiestFry you're not wrong. But Phil is a slimy turd although he has done a lot of good for xbox.
I still dislike the guy and he does speak with a forked tonge.
Re: Poll: Has Xbox's Bethesda Buyout Made You Reconsider a PS5 Purchase?
Re: Poll: Has Xbox's Bethesda Buyout Made You Reconsider a PS5 Purchase?
@Constable_What he isn't saying its a defence he is saying other developers are already exploring this option. Even Ubisoft are going to change it after their next batch of releases. Most people will pay it reluctantly. For the record this is nothing like punching old women in the face. The last increase was over a decade ago we had it coming.
Re: Resident Evil Village May Also Come to PS4, Capcom 'Looking Into It'
@Agramonte agreed.
Re: Resident Evil Village May Also Come to PS4, Capcom 'Looking Into It'
@nessisonett salty much. There is always a transition between generations get a grip. Why would business in the right mind ignore over 100 million potential buyers for something so trivial?
Re: Soapbox: The Week After PS5's Showcase, Sony Told Us Nothing About Its Next-Gen Console
Re: Maybe Don't Get Your Hopes Up for Future Bethesda Games on PS5
Re: Reaction: Spider-Man PS5 Debacle Shows Sony Is Out of Touch
I am guessing some people who bought mass effect games on ps3 will feel entitled to the remastered trilogy for free on ps4 then?
Re: Reaction: Spider-Man PS5 Debacle Shows Sony Is Out of Touch
@suikoden I think its entitled gamers to be fair. If they didn't do a remaster at all would we be at Sony's door angry with pitchforks calling for an improved version. Nobody is forcing gamers to pay for the new spiderman just play the ps4 version on the ps5 with improved frames and resolution.
On what planet is asking for money for a remaster any form of arrogance?
Re: Tweet Allegedly Sent from PS5 Goes Viral
@Grimwood and we laugh at you for writing this post just to say this. Sounds like you could do with a shiny new thing.
