@Shigurui Genshin can only really kill Genshin. If it suddenly started phoning it in players would look for something else but it consistently drops great updates and has nearly completely avoided the power creep that kills so many gachas.
Going multi-platform won't magically solve the issue of games costing too much to make. Xbox isn't some untapped land of riches, its a smaller install base with gamers who typically aren't into Sony's narrative focused SP games, on top of that many don't step outside of Gamepass.
Finished Like a Dragon: Ishin last night so I'm not sure. Was thinking blasting through Outer Wilds before it disappears but I've read it's really bad for people who suffer motion sickness.
With AAA game costing so much we're going to lose the quirky non-mainstream games. No one will be able to afford to to take a risk on anything other than the broadest appealing, mass market game. It'll be a bland conveyor belt of incremental variations of whatever genre is currently popular.
I'll have a go on NFS as it's been a while since I played one. I enjoyed the opening of Tales of Arise and finished the game absolutely hating it, I've never quite soured on a game like that before.
The beta was a complete dud, not even playing with my friends could make it fun. It's so bare bones I felt I'd seen everything the game had within a few hours aside from grinding for marginally better gear. It's actually impressive how Unisoft managed to mess up a game about pirates.
It's arguably the best Xbox exclusive. With MS publically stating they have no confidence in future sales figures of the x/s it'll be interesting to see how their first 3rd party launch goes down.
If it was f2p I'd have a look, no one in there right mind should be paying for a live service game considering how many sink without a trace on launch and have the servers yanked in less than a year.
I agree with limiting the insidious nature of f2p and gatcha mechanics but in Genshin's defence its one of the least predatory out there. Pretty much all content is clearable with free characters, it relies more on FOMO and waifu baiting than powercreep or pay to win mechanics.
Although she makes some good points, she also signed a contract to work for one of the most notoriously toxic, greedy and creatively bankrupt companies in gaming.
Inquisition was good but it landed just as the Witcher 3 had shifted the genre forward in leaps and bounds. The lead designer himself talked about how dated it felt on release. BG3 has just done the same again.
@CJD87 gaming hasn't been niche for a long time, it makes more money than film and music combined. COD and EAFC are the nadir for the worst, most predatory business practices in the industry. A yearly recycling of content, packed to the gills with microtransactions and fine tuned to hit wallet opening dopamine responses. As for big sales, where does the money go? Is EA and Acti sharing the fortune around and funding smaller, more interesting games? No. It benefits shareholder dividends and re-enforces their belief that gamers are nothing more than wallets who'll buy any old tripe so what's the point of making something new.
With all the studios and IP they'd acquired they'd yet to release anything essential. Was there any long term vision other than buy more studios? Wouldn't surprise me if the whole thing turns out to be some elaborate money laundering or Ponzi scheme.
Even if this wasn't a pathetic attempt to play victim I wouldn't have much sympathy for the guy who suggested introducing a $1 per reload microtransaction into battlefield.
Loved all 3 of their games and their commitment to reviving a dead genre. Its a real shame they couldn't find a larger audience. They've struggled financially to break even with each release and can't blame them for prioritising their families after three goes.
I've never played a game I've gone from loving to hating like this. All the promise of the opening hours is wasted as the back half of the game falls off a cliff.
@FatalBubbles Each region has its own storyline that ultimately ties into the overall storyline which typically gets its own expansion after the novelty of the new region wears off. Individual characters also their have sub-stories which tend to be one shots. The story is surprisingly good, it's not afraid to explore some pretty dark stuff and after some justified early criticism the writing has only gotten better.
@DennisReynolds the CEO has been either in game retail or studio management (THQ Nordic) since the 90's so he knows the industry. Quite why the Saudi government is funding his consolidation of the industry is another question though.
@nessisonett Without touching the real reason many internet trolls had a problem with the series. Resi has an established plot and with well defined characters that fans have come to love. The show didn't respect the source material at all, it's unrecognisable car crash that just borrows Resi's name for promotional purposes. Compare that to Twisted Metal, a niche game with an almost bare bones narrative. As long as it has combat in cars and Sweet Tooth they could go in literally any direction and still claim it to be "Twisted Metal".

I honestly can't see this being anything other than a car crash and the final nail in Bioware's coffin.
