@glennthefrog I'm not sure they are tbh, they've always been a mid-tier developer who sees themselves as far more important than their output has ever warranted.
Injustice would be poorly timed, the DC cinematic universe fell on its butt and the general fatigue with all things superhero hasn't shifted. With Warner Brothers deep in a debt crisis it's possible they just sell the studio if they're years away from a release.
@get2sammyb Exactly. All the people crying out for Factions seem to forget it that it wasn't all that popular, despite it's quality, and many resented it for taking resources from the base game.
@SeanOhOgain Genshin has an estimated 6.5m active players alone, that's a five year old game at this point. Honkai Star Rail made £100m in April alone. Gacha's and live service are massive.
I was interested until I found out it's part of a meta-world approach with plans for digital storefronts, social media integration and a live service shooter all in the pipeline.
It's because EA FC didn't sell well last year and the last battlefield tanked. They need to shift copies to keep that share price high. If they had a killer slate you could guarantee the prices would rise
Tangoworks died after a shadowdrop, you would have thought lessons had been learned. Given Bethesda's pedigree a shadow drop from them screams broken, near unplayable mess alarm bells.
It's baffling that Sony has even made the low effort to port this to PS5. It was the blandest PS4 exclusive going, literally everything about it was generic. They canned any potential sequel for good reason, they should have just left it to rot like they've (unfairly) done to Bloodborne.
The changes don't benefit the game in any way, the meta "fates" story angle is cringe worthy and they should have never included the edgelord characters from the extended universe.
It'd need a ground up rebuild for me to pull the trigger on it. It's just too outdated, even Skyrim which improved upon pretty much everything feels archaic without mods.
Netflix? The same company that has seen a downturn in quality in recent years, has raised its prices as subscriptions have plateaued and is $17 billion in debt? I'm sure the CEO has some great advice to dish out
While the game itself could be interesting, the metaverse they are building around it sounds terrible. It's part of a wider project where they want digital storefronts and social media accessible through the game, a live service shooter is up next.
Xbox going back to console exclusives isn't going to happen, a more likely scenario"exclusive to Gamepass". With enough of the industry under its control it can effectively force the service onto playstation.
@nessisonett while I support workers rights to not being replaced with AI this is not what is going on. Lycoan's VA refused to work for a company, that while not union, is emphatically against AI voice creation in a sympathy strike to a union he ISN'T even a part of. He then took to social media and misrepresented the entire situation. Voice actors across the industry have since come out and praised Sound Cadence as one of the good ones. It's the Bayonetta situation all over again.
@nessisonett games are now taking 4-5 years to develop, imagine how long it'd take if you had a custom engine to build as well. On top of that new staff need to be brought up to speed on the new engine before they can actually contribute. Modern games are so technically complicated that a common industry engine is a necessity.
After 3 or 4 entries it's usually better to walk away, let the team re-energise and try something new before the franchise slides into diminishing returns. As much as I enjoyed the Resistance series Sony made the right call, Insomniac has gone from strength to strength while in comparison just look at how Gears and Halo have struggled since their same gen heydays.
It's the series that pushed me back to playstation after jumping over to the X360. I just didn't like it and it was absolutely huge, I just couldn't see a future for Xbox where it wasn't dominated by sci-fi shooters.
@DonkeyFantasy That's the little extra spice though. Spencer's grubby grand plan not only failed it forced Xbox to pull a SEGA. He now has to sit through interviews confirming just how badly he mismanaged Xbox.
The non-existent marketing and terrible name don't help. FIFA, CoD and Fortnite and all the other live service titles with booming player bases leave very little left over for anyone else, when you add in the high costs of making a modern game it's little surprise that the AA market is essentially non-viable.
Arise and Scarlet Nexus both suffer from "but wait there's more" insane plotting. The core premise of each game was interesting enough. The mountain of half baked plot twists scuppered the second half of each of them.
