@Oram77 i can't let go, not yet. I'm still hopefull that the continuation of that monstrous, complicated story will be seen in the next couple of years.
Nintendo showed the way third party studios like Ubisoft can make more money with a lesser physical product. If it's to big they could easily do the same as horizon anf ffvii rebirth, release with two discs.
So, Deborah Ann Woll in glorious 4K graphics, with ray tracing and 60 fps on the PS5 Pro. It sounds like a match made in heaven. Oh, and of course there's the great storytelling and world-building of Santa Monica Studio. That's just an added bonus.
Box office records are really easy if you up the prices by alot of tickets. I payed 17 euros for a ticket and 14 per ticket for my kids to see Mario Galaxy. I remember a time it was less then half that price.
It was a fun movie to see, especially if you grew up with the games, but they could and should have done more with story. My kids have already forgotten most of it, just because of the lack of a story. In comparison they can tell me everything about movies like Ratatouille, Luca, Frozen, Toy story, etc. The Mario movies feel more like a celebration then a actual attempt of a movie with a story. Wich is fine for most fans and kids, but i get why it's get critized for it.
I do think Zelda movie will have that though, it's aimed at a older audiance.
@Titntin some things will be an endless circle unfortunately. I switched jobs because i wanted more time with my family. After realising how much big moments i missed of my first kids, i didnt want the same with the third or miss all the other big moments. I had the luxury i could take that jump, i know it's not a risk most cant take though. Especially in current times.
@Katsuhono it seems to be early ps4 time. If i recall rightly, Naughty Dog changed this after last of us part 2, right after they were called out for it and reduced it. Thats why this article is such as shot in the dark, his comments are based of the past when he worked there. It might not be relevant for the current Naughty Dog at all.
It's realistic they most likely cant avoid the need for it at times, they are still a entertainment company. But if they can keep it to a minimum so it won't damage presonal life and reward those that put in the time, then the people working on it won't have any issues with it.
@Titntin that sounds horrible. Like i said in my previous comment. It really depends on how a company acts on it, what you describe is not the way. A little overtime and good (healty) pressure to hotva certain deadline is not uncommon, but it should not take over someones life. I used to be in the film industry, and had to sometimes work extra to hit a deadline but i have been lucky that the companies i worked for awarded that extra effort.
Hopefully you did experience better work conditions at other developers.
Working harder and doing some over time to meet deadlines doesnt automatically means its a crunch culture. I feel crunch is taken a life of it's own in the gaming world. As others said it happens everywhere. It does depends how it is done though. It does state that Naughty Dog does reward it, That's more then most get for working longer hours.
Seems to only be in Europe and US, where they are already dominating the market. Unfortunately everything gets more expensive. Hopefully coming november the world economy gets some time to breathe and things will slowly go back to normal.
That said, i don't see the PS6 coming in the coming years. Game consoles will be to expensive. All three will not be able to keep the price down unfortunately.
Doesnt this count for every major franchise though. When i look at my three kids, wich are aged between 4-10 years, all they want to play is roblox and fortnite. Because all their friends are playing that. The only game they played next to it was astro bot. No matter how hard i push towards other games, there's no use. I even tried to get them to play FF VII rebirth, they think it looks good but consider a dad game. They played for 10 minuten and were done with it.
This is also with the other franchises such as Mario. They think the movie is fun, but they don't care about the games.
Imo this looks too good to be true. And reading some comments of what is used it's seems this is tech that won't be afordable for the next 20 years. It does look very impressive, especially the environment. Grace looks completely different but Leon on the other hand. But still i have serious doubts wether this is actually all really true.
It's not the best first impression you can have. Not sure who thought that this image should be the first ever to be shown. If you have know knowledge of the source material, this looks like a b movie or a parody movie like scary movie.
My kids found the DK drums from the Gamecube, much to my wife's annoyance because of the noice they make. I don't think she'll appreciate me buying these.
@Dalamar i still think they should. It's a studio that would fit Sony perfectly. It will also be great for Sony animation. It will actually add a great IP and a studio that adds somehthing the Playstation brand they don't have yet. Bluepoint was a panic buy because at the time MS was buying alot of studios. Even though it was a great studio, Bluepoint add anything extra to Playstation and why they were mainly a support team. If you look at past purchases you will see they really looked for something that will add to the Playstation brand instead of panic buying.
So yeah, if they want to add the Kena developers to Playstation studios i'm all for it, because they will add a much needed genre of games and potential IP that Playstation neede.
My kids love it, i try to push them to better games like astro bot, kena, klonoa, etc. But for some reason they always go back to this. I just don't get it, it looks horrible.
Yeah, this is just a guy trying to get more attention by stirring the pot, by using the Bluepoint closure as a platform. This has nothing to do with that. Bluepoint wasnt making a remake. To bad this site gives him that extra platform. He used a copyrighted IP and promoted a remake he was making. Every platform holder would cease it.
Great piece Sammy. I'm one of the guys looking at this less emotionally i think. I think Bluepoint were great developers and they made great remakes, the were a supporting studio after they were bought. Most of the staff seem to be going to be placed at other Playstation studios. So it's not a total loss at that.
Who knows why they bought Bluepoint in the first place. To me, the recent acquisitions, seemed like panic buys. Playstation used to ge really selective to wich studio they bought. All added somehthing new in the catalog. Didnt look like Bluepoint were bought to make more remakes, so Who knows why they are being shut down.
As for Hulst. It's not even sure it was his choice to close Bluepoint. At the end of the day he is just a pawn and the messenger for upper management. I used to be in a leading role, and was occasionally put on the spot to deliver bad news, whether or not i agreed with the management or not. I'm not defending the guy, but please think about that he might only be the messenger this time.
I understand alot are mad at Hulst, but don't forget that Hideaki Nishino is also in charge, and more then Hulst. He might want Playstation to go in another direction. Looking at the last state of play it possibly shows wich way.
As much as i hate to see Bluepoint go, nobody knows the reasons why the studio gets closed. They were a support studio more then anything since they got bought, seems like alot of staff is going to other playstation studio's to keep doing what they already were doing.
Don't know what to think of this. Bluepoint does make great remakes, maybe they are not that great at new IP, who knows. But still, Playstation has enough unused IP that can have remakes though, hopefully they can all be placed inside the other Playstation studios so the talent is not lost.
@PuppetMaster i hope he's working on a Castlevania game. Not only for us gamers but also for him, as it's his dream project. Just imagine a Castlevania with ragnarok graphics. We can dream right.
This game had alot of DLC, so this would have gone down bad if everything would be in it. Buying every DLC would cost around 500. So a improved version with eveything in it for 60 would still make people mad.
@darylb24 i think its safe to say kena 2 will be exclusive for ps5, until Sony decides to publish it on other consoles. Ember label is working closely with Playstation studio's, Sony is investing money in develpment and publishing it. I wouldnt be surprised if Ember lab eventually becomes part of Playstation.
@darylb24 they are funding and supporting the Kena sequel, That's different then paying for timed exclusivity. And to be fair, it's something Nintendo has done since they started and MS since the original xbox. I do agree timed exclusivity should stop by all three. But i see no wrong in funding games, many games might have not been made if either Sony, Nintendo or MS payed to get the game made
Square-enix, whats left to say about it. The downwards spiral started in the ps3 and xbox 360 days, when they thought high end graphics equals quality and sales. Right now they are the remake company, living of nostalgia and past succeses. If a title doesnt sell wel enough in their heads, they blame everyone else for it.
It's a rumour of a rumour. Who says that 2028 wasnt the original target year. I'm sure Sony has a plan for the PS6 already. Devs might not be so eacher aswell to jump to even higher development costs this time.
@carlos82 i remember this statement. Back then they kept claiming rebirth was only possible to look this way and performe because they only made it for the PS5. That's why i don't believe the PS5 version is not affected by Series S and Switch 2. They are good in switching pr talk.
The start was amazing. I always hoped for a sequel to Kena, but never thought it was going to happen. Didnt see it coming. And great to see Konami get the spotlight for their return. It's going to be a incredible year with great games.
Just bought it and downloading it right now. It's looks like a fine game, this game reminds me of the old PSone to PS3 Playstation times where they released all kind of genres all the time.
Gameplay looks fun, the environment and machines look great. The characters don't look bad but it looks to simular to other games in the same category, not a deal breaker though. But i can imagine alot of gamers might think, seen that, done that and give it a pass. Looking forward to try the game, to see if it's something for me.
