Here’s a cool little thing coming out of Summer Game Fest’s press adjacent Play Days event: boutique publisher Annapurna Interactive is promoting its upcoming PS5 lineup with press packs inspired by retro PlayStation box art.

As photographed by YouTuber and ex-Nintendo employee Kit Ellis (hi, Kit!), we can see a PS2 version of Silent Hill: Townfall, a PS2 Greatest Hits edition of Control Resonant, and a PS1 copy of The Lost Wild. There’s also a Nintendo 64 copy of Demi and the Fractured Dream.

Kit didn’t say what’s inside, but having been to plenty of press junkets in my time, I’d expect fact sheets and press assets, so nothing particularly interesting. But these are the kinds of things you could display on your shelf, aren’t they?

Obviously the idea of creating retro box art mock-ups isn’t particularly new, but I don’t recall seeing a major publisher actually make them.

Bravo, Annapurna Interactive – you guys are always so freakin’ cool!
