Death Stranding 2 receives its PC version this Thursday, 19th March 2026, and the extra content that edition brings will also be patched into the PS5 version. Whereas the first game got its bonus content via a paid Director's Cut, the sequel is handed it in a free update, and it still seems like a substantial addition.
Speaking on Spacewalk, a Japanese radio show, creator Hideo Kojima shared what the new features and content being added to the PS5 version are. Via outlet MP1ST, you can look forward to:
- New difficulty mode called To the Wilder
- Replayable boss fights, including Neil encounters
- New live-action cutscenes that were originally cut from the game
- New nightmare sequences for Sam and additional footage
- The Chiral Cat will appear in Sam's Private Room
- 21:9 ultrawide support on PS5
- New items
- Further gameplay adjustments
Some of the standout additions are a new difficulty mode and cut content restored to the game. The former is said to be harder than anything in the base game, while the latter was originally taken out of Death Stranding 2 due to storage limits. It'll all be added to the PS5 version for free this Thursday.
The patch will expand and improve on an experience we already thought was a 10/10. In our Death Stranding 2 PS5 review, we said:
"In what will prove to be one of the defining games of the PS5 generation, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is a profound achievement of design, gameplay, narrative, and visuals. As all four meet in the middle, Kojima Productions has crafted a cinematic spectacle that flawlessly transitions between action and traversal, all wrapped up in the most absorbing of narratives. An immense upgrade on the first game, Death Stranding 2 is an unequivocal masterpiece."

Being the new kid on the block, Hideo Kojima needs to appeal to people by giving away free content in order to create a well known name for himself.
Nice. Can experience these changes when I eventually buy the game later this year. Need to complete DS 1 first.
Haven't played the game since getting the platinum (the trophy connecting hearts and minds really annoyed me lol) but this seems like a perfect to jump back in and see all the add-ons. Also hope that new difficulty is a challange because the game way easier then DS1
Look like a great update. Still need to continu this game. I need to get extra time.
I haven't played the game yet but I didn't know that PS5 could do ultra wide, cool! That said according to the article stuff was cut due to "storage limitations" which makes no sense in this day and age.
21:9 on Ps5. How curious.
@belmont 92gb on disc, they presumably didn't feel it was worth another disc. Without knowing what that content is its hard to say if they made the right decision or not. Is there any word on how much space this content will take?
Guess i'm redownloading the game then haha. Will wait until Crimson Desert is done downloading tonight though as i want to make sure i have enough space for that first.
Wondering how much better this game could possibly look but now we’ll find out with pssr2
@GamingGod You won't because it doesn't use PSSR.
I think some further reporting into the issue of "storage limits" may be required here, because wtf do that mean?
@LowDefAl I mean they could offer the rest as a download, no need to print more disks.
@Jacko11 it means the disc was full
@belmont we would then be complaining a Sony published game needed a multi gb mandatory install to play the game
What new items?!
Guess I’m going back in to 5-star all the shelters sooner than I thought lol
I’m just about to try and complete the ‘dex on firered but I guess that’s going on the back burner. DS2 is in my top 3 games of all time next to Blaster Master and…. I forget the third, maybe DS1.
Was always wondering if we’d get a “Director’s Cut” version of this one too….
Already got the game in my Steam library. I really loved the first game when I played the DC version a few years ago.
I had to fix a spring in my launch Dualsense when I was playing it cause the adaptive trigger caused it to snap lol.
@DennisReynolds noooo…. Tbf decima is a beast it doesn’t even need it
@GamingGod The custom upscaler Decima uses is straight up better then PSSR so its all good.
@ChromaticDracula I'm hoping the new items includes the badass jacket Sam wears at the start.
@Deadlyblack Nope, that spring snapped because it was a design flaw with the launch Dualsenses. They used a 50% thicker spring in subsequent models.
If anything, the adaptive triggers prolonged the life of the spring by offloading a lot of the pressure exerted on it to the adaptive mechanisms' gears.
@DennisReynolds I didn’t even consider that as a possibility!
I was hoping it would unlock after you beat the game at least. Well, now you just got my hopes up! 😂 🤞🤞🤞🤞
@LowDefAl disc? What’s that?
I’ve been digital for so long I never even thought about the disc size 😭
@LowDefAl You are right. I personally don't really care that much though since the game would have a myriad of patches anyway.
@ChromaticDracula Yeah i was so annoyed we couldn't wear it post game.
@MrPeanutbutterz Well regardless, at least it was a pretty easy fix and a bag of springs only cost me a few dollars on eBay.
Off topic but I was already pleased with my Pro by being able to basically the the quality mode at 60fps for some games but the recent PSSR2 update is great. I’m running an LG C4 OLED tv.
Star Wars Outlaws and Killing Floor 3 get big visual improvements.
Ghost of Yotei’s Pro Ray Tracing mode now runs up into the 90s for frames. It’s so pretty.
RE requiem looked great.
I haven’t noticed anything in toxic commando that stands out to me.
That’s all I’ve tested so far.
I would do it again but my roads and monorail are probably in horrendous conditions by now.
@DennisReynolds yes I’ve heard John linneman talking about it. Sounds nuts! Guerilla are so good at graphics it’s no joke
