Death Stranding 2 PS5

Death Stranding 2 receives its PC version this Thursday, 19th March 2026, and the extra content that edition brings will also be patched into the PS5 version. Whereas the first game got its bonus content via a paid Director's Cut, the sequel is handed it in a free update, and it still seems like a substantial addition.

Speaking on Spacewalk, a Japanese radio show, creator Hideo Kojima shared what the new features and content being added to the PS5 version are. Via outlet MP1ST, you can look forward to:

  • New difficulty mode called To the Wilder
  • Replayable boss fights, including Neil encounters
  • New live-action cutscenes that were originally cut from the game
  • New nightmare sequences for Sam and additional footage
  • The Chiral Cat will appear in Sam's Private Room
  • 21:9 ultrawide support on PS5
  • New items
  • Further gameplay adjustments

Some of the standout additions are a new difficulty mode and cut content restored to the game. The former is said to be harder than anything in the base game, while the latter was originally taken out of Death Stranding 2 due to storage limits. It'll all be added to the PS5 version for free this Thursday.

The patch will expand and improve on an experience we already thought was a 10/10. In our Death Stranding 2 PS5 review, we said:

"In what will prove to be one of the defining games of the PS5 generation, Death Stranding 2: On the Beach is a profound achievement of design, gameplay, narrative, and visuals. As all four meet in the middle, Kojima Productions has crafted a cinematic spectacle that flawlessly transitions between action and traversal, all wrapped up in the most absorbing of narratives. An immense upgrade on the first game, Death Stranding 2 is an unequivocal masterpiece."
