You may have seen a recent report (from Matthew Ball) that reveals gaming is losing people to mobile apps and other sources of instant gratification entertainment.
Even within just video games, though, PlayStation is up against crazy competition — not only from other platforms, but far more prominently from Roblox.
The same report delves into just how enormous Roblox has become, and it may surprise you to learn the scale of the game relative to other gaming institutions.
According to the report, by the end of 2024, Roblox had more daily active users (DAUs) than any of the major console platforms, including PlayStation. A year later, DAUs went up another 69 per cent.
But the most shocking statistic is Roblox's average quarterly engagement. Per the report, 2025's monthly hours of engagement for Roblox reached about 10.3 billion; this is about the same as PlayStation, Steam, and Fortnite combined.
To put it another way, Roblox had more than double the amount of active hours than PlayStation in 2025.
It should be noted that PlayStation's data in the report is based on 2024, though it's unlikely to be dramatically different for 2025.
On another slide, it's revealed that individual Roblox games, such as Grow a Garden and Steal a Brainrot, are competing with some of the biggest non-Roblox titles.
For example, Fortnite's average monthly hours of engagement amounts to around 0.86 billion, while Grow a Garden's figure (over 10 months) is at around 0.71 billion.
In fact, Grow a Garden's figure is higher than that of Blizzard Entertainment's entire software lineup, which amounts to about 0.69 billion, according to the report.
However you slice it, Roblox is a massive deal.
Of course, Roblox has its share of serious problems, and those shouldn't be ignored, but if we're talking about player engagement, it's become a dominant force within the medium.
