Long-running Japanese gaming tome Famitsu is celebrating its 40th anniversary this year, and this week’s issue is dedicated to PlayStation.

While the mag covers all consoles, Sony’s systems have obviously featured heavily ever since the PS1’s release in 1994, so it makes sense to pay tribute to the brand on its pages.

This particular issue has an absolutely awesome PaRappa the Rapper-inspired cover – still a very popular property in Japan, with regular pop-up stores and clothing collaborations.

It’s also got an interview with CEO Hideaki Nishino and a gorgeous Astro Bot double-spread.

You can buy imported copies of Famitsu on Play-Asia; this particular edition is a double-issue, so more pages than usual.

I always grab a copy of Famitsu when I’m in Japan and it really is remarkable how much content is packed into its pages for a weekly magazine.

While a lot of the content does often read like an advertorial, I think it’s awesome that Japan has a weekly gaming mag with so much content in it. We barely have any left in the UK, although I do still enjoy my monthly flick through Retro Gamer.
