Fantastic stuff. love TMNT in general. grew up playing some of these games. the Gameboy ones were fun back then, hopefully still as fun now.
Of course Turtles in Time is a classic amongst many folks.
> as for other games that should get this treatment? === the X-Men and Avengers side scroller beat em ups/platformers.
@RubyCarbuncle - i'm pretty satisfied. some folks in here set their expectations based on something that SONY literally said wasn't going to happen. SONY said it was a SoP focused on JPN publisher games --- yet folks come out and say "oh where's God of War, where's Spartacus etc etc" --- like, they literally said those ish won't be there.
> I for one am happy about JOJO, TMNT, FF Tactics but not FF Tactics, Valkyrie (not disco) Elysium looks alright (the Valkryie Profile games were fun back in the day) and EXOPRIMAL looks quite fun (if it's focused on single player). This SoP was alright in my book. --
Gundam Mechs have such cool designs and having it be through an First Person Perspective just totally misses the point...ugh - so disappointing. I hope it does well but I dunno; this is probably the most disappointing one in the SoP.
this is my kind of SoP = focusing on JPN publishers and their games. It would be cool to see more in depth look at Soul Hackers 2 and Granblue Fantasy Re Link (possibly a release date too - though I know GB has some event coming up soon). It would be cool to see a tease for Ys X as well. Maybe more about SF 6? Is there gonna be a Soul Calibur 7? - I hope so? >>> possibilities are endless. ENJOY yall!
MAIN GAME = playing Yakuza 6. the gameplay loop is just so fun. story is ramping up, which means this ramp is barely an incline cuz i know there'll be more. what a series indeed.
SIDE GAME = N/A
I suppose remasters of the unreleased Yakuza Isshin and Yakuza Kenzan could be in the works because why not... I hope RGG does a ground up remake of the PSP Yakuza Spinoff "Project K". Instead of it being a fighting game, just make it like a typical Yakuza game, or I guess Judgement now, with it's focus more on action instead of turn based combat. OR - make a side scrolling beat em up with totally different characters and lore.
finally playing Yakuza 6. been a fan since the PS2 days but just getting around to the final game for Kiryu-san. it's nice to be back in Kamurocho. > after I'm done with the game (in a few weeks maybe months cuz adult-ing/parenting), I'll likely jump in to another backlog game (Nier:A / NnK2 / Batman:AK)
it's almost like Capcom should just remake Darkstalkers or something.
OR really go back and make some more beat em ups (that Capcom Beat em up collection was fun!) Dotemu can't be the only one carrying that torch.
I couldn't get into the SF series anymore after SF4.
glad folks are enjoying the series still and it looks amazing. it's so fun watching the fighting game tournaments.
hope Capcom brings back SF Alpha at some point.
enjoy SF6 when it comes out! : )
can't say I played the Soul Hackers game on 3DS...but either way, I'm excited for this game! finally, another JRPG to look forward to in 2022 (considering that I'm losing faith and excitement for Granblue Fantasy reLink)
i played a little bit of Klonoa Door to Phantomile on the PS1 back in the day but never got fully invested. i thought it looked cool but i guess i just wasn't feelin' it then. these remasters look really nice. def will be a cop. i kinda wish it came out sooner, but itll just get buried under HFW and ER.
it's the internet! everyone over reacts...and/or under reacts...then people come out and say those who are under reacting are truly hurt on the inside...then another group would say 'it's ok, everyone is entitled to their own opinion...then somewhere amongst all those groups will be people that post memes about said topic being reacted to with varying degrees of success.
@anoyonmus i don't know lol that's why I hope they show more of it and at least some more info/short trailer for DQ XII. I'm not much of a FF guy so I'm not pining for FF XVI as much as others.
FF 16 is the biggest thing for SquEnix? yeah for err-one else. ...umm, I hope to see more of DuRaGoN Quest(-o) XII? / maybe show gameplay of DQ III HD-2D?
my exact thought...
"Okay, okay, we know what you're thinking. Another Castlevania-esque, pixel-filled, side-scrolling action RPG? We get it — it feels like a new one of these has released every other week for the past decade"
i grew up in that era too but man, this is alot. the years with Shovel Knight and Guacamelee were great when it wasn't inundating the industry and it still felt genuine and fresh. now it's every week and each time there's a gaming event, there's like two of these types of games being shown.
>>> but ok, either way, enjoy!
@twztid13
I didn't realize I only had to compare it to PS2 games because the article headline mentioned PS2. Sorry about that Mr. or Ms. Fun Police. I'll do better next time when talking about video games.
(Yakuza was/is a PS2 though.)
I'm not playing anything new. Still Tales of Arise. But I'm commenting because I'm happy that someone from the staff is playing Dragon Quest XI ! yay JRPGs!
great list! def not alot of surprises here in terms of more mainstream/popular titles. good stuff!
hope to see more JRPGs represented in the future! (Yes FF7 is a JRPG but it might as well be a western game).
@Mauzuri why are we comparing IX to VIII? That's not what this is about. It's about JRPGs that came out (to the west at least) in 2021. Your quick review of Ys IX also kind of sounds like you didn't play the game all the way through. Maybe you did, but you know there's more than just the city setting, there's verticality in the game that lends to fun exploration, the cast is cool, the story was good with a little tinge of nostalgia and an interesting twist, the combat is always fantastic and the music was quite good as well. But to each their own.
Yes to P5S and ToA. but let's not forget about Ys IX Monstrum Nox.
Also, Mass Effect?!? Like, yes we get it, I get it, I played em already back then. Also, same for Disco Elysium.
Let's give some love to newer games.
Persona 5 Strikers is one of the best games of 2021. Def should play Persona 5 before playing this sequel. Don't let the trailer of Musou style gameplay fool ya though - if you play that way and just hack&slash, you'll lose.
Happy Merry Everything! Push Square is the gaming site I frequent the most and while I don't interact on the posts as much as I should (I do occasionally), I still enjoy reading the articles and gaining insight through the comments. Enjoy yourselves! Happy Gaming!
@Dr-M if you like the fantasy setting in anime, then yeah. gives you context for the game. each episode is their own adventure until all the pieces are lined up and then you see how they're all connected.
cool! finally more details from this game. it's been too long.
the co-op option is interesting and I hope it works out well for them (reminds me of the option of co-op in previous Tales of games). I'm going to be playing solo.
-more news from the game is signal to me to continue watching the anime.
> thanks for the scoop Push Square!
enjoyed the original. I think it was just a little too late for this game. plus no hype or marketing and perhaps an over reliance on the nostalgia of the fans for this niche game.
but hey, when it's on sale for $20 or so, I'd likely cop.
this isn't gonna last long or will be completely forgettable. it's like 5 years too late, maybe more.
maybe they could make a side scrolling beat em up game in Dragon Ball (not Z) world vs the Red Ribbon Army OR a Musou game where you don't play as Goku or Vegeta (say they're somewhere else or they're facing the big bad like Frieza or Cell somewhere else in the world) but you're more on the ground level facing hordes of Frieza's army and the bosses you face are members of the Ginyu Force or somethin'.
darn...I just bought this game too on the Black Friday deal on PSN for $16 (which I suppose is the price I wanted to buy it for) I was hoping for a Spider-Man story mission but alas. It is a bit disappointing not to have that. It certainly feels like a missed opportunity.
I'm down for more JRPGs...but man, Star Ocean needs an aesthetic overhaul (similar to what Tales of Arise did). This and KOF were highlights for me during the State of Play.
