Yakuza and Judgment developer RGG Studio is apparently hard at work on "a lot of unannounced titles", alongside the previously confirmed Yakuza 8. Back in November last year, the Japanese company said it was planning games that have nothing to do with the aforementioned Yakuza or Judgment properties, which makes things very interesting indeed.
It might not even be that long until we get some concrete details β but we would assume that RGG Studio will want to wheel Yakuza 8 out first, probably in the coming months. And if you haven't already heard, it's going to be a sequel to Yakuza: Like a Dragon, taking place several years after Ichiban's initial adventure. We can't wait to see what's in store.
It's also worth noting that RGG Studio appears to be more open about its operations since its recent restructure. Yakuza creator Toshihiro Nagoshi and producer Daisuke Sato departed the developer in 2021, which led to a big reshuffle of key staff members.

It's easy to have multiple projects when each game uses the same location. π
@Uncharted2007 Binary Domain 2...set in Yokohama.
Kenzan and ishin please
Just give us loads of games with the same template, but different characters and stories, and Iβll be happy. Donβt start releasing MMO service crap or the like.
Fist of the North Star : Lost Paradise II would be sweet.
I wonder if one of them might be a Virtua Figher 6 finally? After all RGG was responsible for the recent re-release of Virtua Fighter 5. That would definitely make my day!
yakuza 7 was my jam because of the turn based. looking forward
Also RGG has its final DLC Lost Judgment coming out too in spring?
I'm still on Yakuza 5, so there's no rush!
This has to be the most consistent studio in the industry hope that continues under the new leadership
@Korgon
I'd love that as well. Long overdue.
Will Ichibanβs sequel still be turn base? I really hope so
Loved Ichiban and the turn based combat system. Chuffed that it's getting a sequel.
@CWill97 it will be yeah. They already confirmed that
Their games are like Rollercoaster of emotions. Stories are mostly super serious but there is also lot of fun and humour in it. Nothing beats doing karaoke into hitting some bad guy with a billboard to play darts and run some hostess club or whatever. The side stuff in these games is very diverse and keep you engaged. Ever since I discovered rgg games they became my favorite studio
I wasn't a fan of Hokuto ga Gotoku, but if they make a JoJo game, I think both styles would mix really well.
please, let us catch up with the yakuza franchise before releasing new ones! this has turned into assassin's creed, come on now
@Jango-Forest i'm only on zero and previously played kiwami 1 and 2. this franchise is a hell of a time investment! i need to pace it out so i don't get fatigued
Yak 8, Judgment 3, Kenzan & Ishin remaster and Kiwami 3,4,5 all within next 2 years please! π
No silly delays for Yakuza 8 on PS5 this time please RGG studio. Just remember where the series originated
Yakuza 8 is my most anticipated game if weβre following in the footsteps of 7 tbh.
I have wanted to start from the very beginning of the series again. But thinking how many hours it would take (cause I am kinda a 100% completion person) And the fact the games are a mix of new and old engine throughout the series makes me a bit :s
@YeoSprings I platted 14 RGG games (all yaks, judges on PS4/5 and FOTNS) in the last year....bought Hades, Scarlet Nexus and Forbidden West and had about 17 other games in my library after finishing Lost Judgment for the 2nd time I went straight to....Yakuza 0. No trophies to earn just loving playing it again. No need to complete it 100% but have spent 20 hrs doing completion stuff and haven't gone past chapter 2 yet π it's definitely worth it.
Will do one RGG replay then one new game just to mix it up but the games are just awesome
Me βWhy do they keep mentioning the former Manchester United winger?β
Playing through my first Yakuza game
Anything action-based. It must be fully voiced! I'd love any spin-off concept. I'd particularly like the idea of Yakuza in Hawaii in the 70s. A game set in post WW2 Japan. A drama like Isshin set in the Meiji Era. Kenzan remake. More Judgment.
What I would love to see is a new IP (must be set in Japan) that is a co-production with Sony. Yakuza games are great, but the guiding hand of Sony could give their games a bit more universal appeal (it wouldn't take too much, just fully voiced story and side quests, action-based combat, less intrusive tutorials.
I have a bad feeling that Ryu Ga Gotoku are working on an Xbox exclusive, that would make me very sad.
@CWill97 Yes, the sequel will be turn-based but that makes me sad. Turn-based is really not a good fit for Yakuza, when the kinetic energy was such a huge part of the experience. At the very least they should make the combat more like modern Final Fantasy game combat. Maybe the best of both worlds would be to have the option between turn-based or action-based combat.
Team Ninja making a Nioh-style Yakuza game.
Omega force making a Yakuza musou.
Telltale making Yakuza telltale.
Any new action IP set in Japan.
Shenmue 4.
@Lup The problem I had with fist of the north star was that the signature move of the exploding head punch is just an on-rails animation. Cool the first time, but tedious after that, just like the turn-based stuff in 7.
@Porco I was powering through all the games having imported them all from Japan. When it was announced that Yakuza 7 would be turn-based it killed my desire to catch up on the old games. I still have 4 and 5 to get through before Lost Judgment, and I have to give 7 another go after hating the demo. Yakuza 6 is probably my GOAT. I took a break for almost 2 years, but I'm going back to 4 after I'm done with Warrior Allstars.
@YeoSprings I have only 100% 6 (actually only platinum not 100%). I loved every minute of it. Every other Yakuza game is on my hard drive ready waiting for me to come back to it to clear up the substories and maybe go for the plats.
One of those games is definitely a new Super Monkey Ball.
I suppose remasters of the unreleased Yakuza Isshin and Yakuza Kenzan could be in the works because why not...
I hope RGG does a ground up remake of the PSP Yakuza Spinoff "Project K".
Instead of it being a fighting game, just make it like a typical Yakuza game, or I guess Judgement now, with it's focus more on action instead of turn based combat.
OR - make a side scrolling beat em up with totally different characters and lore.
Great news if true, keep meaning to dive into the games!
From what I've played of Judgment it's very fun.
@Lethal_Equo I wish so much too..)
The turn based yakuza flopped it for me but the storyline was brilliant as expected I think it should go back to normal fighting but it is what it is π―
I'd be happy with a binary domain remaster, that game was a lot of fun.
@HennyB96 I'd love a 7 remake with proper Yakuza combat!
@Apfelschteiner would be amazing π―
