Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 617

having completed AC Origins, I am now tackling AC Unity.

the biggest challenge I am facing is the different button mapping as I keep throwing smoke bombs when i am trying to light attack!

for a 2014 game the graphics are pretty cool and Paris feels very alive. the protoganist Arno also brings a smile to my face.

the combat is satisfying though actually more simplistic and i do like the stealthier emphasis. but it is leading me to fail far more often than in Origins despite taking a stealthy approach in that game too.

i think overall Origins is more my cup of tea, despite going into that game not the biggest RPG fan. however only 4 hours into Unity so still need to give it more time.

now that Black Flag remake seems to have bitten the dust - at least temporarily - i may tackle that after Unity but given I liked the RPG nature of Origins I may go Odyssey or Valhalla (despite the length criticisms).

any thoughts?

@Zuljaras interesting. Got that instant ability asap on Origins with the day/night specific quests but sure i will live. The setting and time period of Unity greatly interests me so looking forward to it. Had considered doing in tandem but I think 1 AC on the go at a time is a better option 👍

@Zuljaras nice AC Unity is my next AC once i finish Origins. 29 hours in. With probably the same to go so I better crack out some hours this weekend.

Having a go at Erica too, which is a weird little interactive movie game. I like how they try to be different to Supermassive but the controls are a little weird in some sequences.

For light relief I have Mickey Rebrushed going, which is a nice change of pace.

Plus can you believe I have never played GTA5. It keeps staring at me so I should probably play it before GTA6 finally drops!

Most of these look more interesting than the "big" games scheduled for release this year. I have whacked quite a few on my Wishlist.

I usually have 3 or 4 games on the go at any one time and 99.9% of the time one of them is an indie/leftfield title.

Because they are judged less on sales numbers I feel they take more risks across the board from gameplay to art style.

Pretty excited for the year.

We must have had ReVillage before because I completed it and didn't buy it I am sure ðŸĪĢðŸĪ” Great game!

Keen to try Infinite Wealth. Couldn't get into Man Who Erased His Name, so will I struggle with it?

Not really into sims or racers but Quiet Place sounds interesting. Cool movie

Finished AC Mirage and on recommendation here have started AC Origins.

Preferring the combat and quite like the levelling up system but not liking the stealth. More action and less assassination. Much harder - for me at least - to plan, creep and assassinate as enemies seem to see everything?

But definitely having fun in my 1st 2 hours.

Also picked up Limbo and Inside on sale. And have worked my way through about 50% of Limbo which is a terrific little puzzler with great art style

007, Tomb Raider, Requiem, Reanimal and Wolverine are the big ones for me.
Left off GTA just in case we get delayed again!!
Romeo is the intriguing one.
And the one not on the list is AC Black Flag Remake.

Just about to finish Still Wakes The Deep. That was a lot of fun. Was thinking about getting the sequel Sirens Rest but saw that wasn't as good. Has anyone played it?

Started Indika. Very weird. Will give it another hour or 2 before I pass judgement.

Determined to complete a Griftlands run.

And will do some Moving Out 2 with my daughter after we get Santa photos done. In November ðŸĪĶ‍♂ïļ

Completed "Thank Goodness You Are Here" - gameplay may be simple but how madly brilliant and funny. Loved it!.

My daughter has been obsessed with Goat Simulator 3 and we just have the Farmer Boss fight to go.

I also picked up Griftlands on sale. Pretty cool roguelike / deckbuilder that makes much better use of the story component compared with a Slay the Spire or Monster Train but still trying to get my head around the Negotiate mechanics and card deck

Re: Talking Point: The Game Awards 2025 Nominations Announced: Who Are Your Winners?

old_gamer74

I know that Clair Obscur is going to clean up but that Split Fiction is not on the shortlist for GoTY staggers me. For me it covers so many bases in what makes gaming great from storytelling to graphics to sounds BUT most importantly a game that absolutely anyone can pick up and play regardless of age, gender, gaming ability and a game that rewards playing together. It is a game that will stick with me and my daughter for years to come; not just the game but the experience that we had as a team.

More co-op games like this please. Astrobot co-op would be amazing!!

I will finish Stray, which has been super enjoyable.

Another chapter of As Dusk Falls - i quite like the graphic novel style tho swiping the QTE doesn't always seem to work. Probably user error!

Will try to get back into Silent Hill 2. But I think I have worked out finally I don't really like 3rd person horror. Much prefer FPS as with RE Village and so pleased that is the option for Requiem

My daughter will want some game time so will probably do a few Overcooked levels.

Have added Where Winds Meet to catalogue but sceptical and will probably wait till new year to have a look

All over BALLXPIT. Another fantastic "just one more run" game. Join the likes of Balatro, Inscryption, Monster Train and Slay The Spire in sucking my time - in a good way! Proof that you don't need fancy graphics and huge budgets. Plus another $20 (ish) (in Australia) game which, with budgets tight, is another huge plus. Great value.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 603

old_gamer74

cycled back to some early "classics" i haven't got round to. Resident Evil Village which I have to say i prefer to RE4 as I like the FPS view. Glad Requiem will have both options. Plus Returnal. I really like it but as I am a terrible gamer I am struggling with the difficulty level somewhat, so will have to see how fun i find it after the 100th time dying!

old_gamer74

completed Lego Voyagers last night with my daughter. we had a blast. they could have definitely taken the concept further and sometimes the controls are a little fiddly but it looks gorgeous, has some really creative ideas - especially in the 2nd half - and never overstays its welcome.

Re: Ghost of Yotei (PS5) - The Greatest Sucker Punch Game Ever

old_gamer74

i really wanted to love the original more than i did but after about 10 hours i just gave up. Partly the combat, partly the open world where developers pretend you are getting value but it is a lot of the same dressed up. I would much rather have a 14 hour game full of ideas than an 80 hour slog.

The only open world I have truly loved has been RDR2. And I am still playing that.

This looks great but I know straight off the bat I wouldn't get much further than 10 hours again
