If any one enjoys watching Josh Strife Hayes he has done as 3h 33m and 33s (sadly youtube rounded the time to 32s) video review of Expedition 33.
Ive not watched it yet because I need to play the game first, but I will eventually as I really enjoy his long format stuff. His Baldurs Gate 1 Review at 1hr 45m was also excellent.
I got Townsmen with my headset and I would never normally play a sim / strategy game on console with a controller as its just to fiddly. But I was surprised at how well they work in VR as you can treat it like a phone with pinch zoom, spinning and panning the camera, selecting units by hand etc.
Also the games just feel way differnent as you are a god figure hovering over everything, rather than just observing it on a screen. Will certainly keep an eye on this one.
SS2 is brilliant and well worth a play for anyone who has not played it before. You can really see the blueprint that led to the Bioshock games later.
@UncleByron I think it still left its own legacy but nothing could ever beat Half Life for being incredible in every way. I played Black Mesa (the fan made remake) a few years back and the Half Life style and story is still timeless. If they could get Black Mesa on consoles it would be great for a new generation to experience that game, and the creators deserve success from it.
Not a fan of this new fake early access model where the game is ready, and held back for fomo, and the whales.
Early access should be done correctly like Baldiurs Gate 3 where the whole point was players could see parts of act 3 early and that was used to provide feedback about classes etc.
Still interested, but the demo has tempered the interest a little.
It does look a lot like The Witcher 3 in how its presented and the way the combat works. However the combat looks a bit ropey currently, notably the claws animation just looks very disconnected from the combat.
Will continue to keep an eye out as its still early days
I own it and haven't used it recently, but I also don't regret my purchase one bit. I never expected it to be the way I play all the time, but have really enjoyed what I have played.
@AtlasLivesAgain it just felt like a very bad B movie student film project. That end fight with pyramid head and the other thing is awful. It's just such a bad film, but that's only my opinion ofc.
Would stick them in any order but The new mario film and sonic film are great. Tomb raider deserves a mention because they were pretty decent. Warcraft story was meh but visually the film was great, they honestly should have just done the Arthas story instead.
Resident evil 1 was okay, not the greatest but I will agree they rapidly went downhill after the original
Edit: Detective Pikachu doesn't really count, but I did enjoy that also 😂
@John_Deacon a genuine question but does it really make any difference how many first part games they release.
MS are multiplatform now, we get every major third party game and all that's missing is Nintendo, which has always been missing. PS still has access to the most games as a console so does it really matter if they are first, second or third party.
The original Silent Hill movie remains one of the best adaptations of a game series yet. Its possibly the best as they nailed the vibe and didn't try to just recreate a game scene for scene.
@BAMozzy As a PC gamer for going on 20+ years its just a trend that has always been there. You are correct that not every one has a 5090 rig, and most run lower (myself included). However PC has always been plagued with the issue however of not targetting the lowest specs. It always felt like if you give Devs headroom to push boundaries they will target high specs, not overly care and if a game runs like a bag of spanners on lower specs.
Its not a dig at any platform, just an observation as someone who for years gamed in that space primarily. Its probably the weakest part about PC gaming compared to consoles. A unified platform gives devs a target to aim for, and usually gives better optimisation, where as on PC they are given way to much free reign.
@BAMozzy From a devs perspective, they also won't need to port a Xbox specific edition, they'll just have to make a PC game with at most curated/Optimised Settings for fixed spec as the 'Xbox PC' will be, but you can still tweak them yourself
My worry would be that PC games will do what PC games have always done and target the high end systems, if your spec ain't good enough then tough you best upgrade. Thats one of the concerns for a PC Lite box, and is already being played out on PC handhelds where new game are not always supported on the Steam Deck which is the main PC Handheld.
Launching the pro mid way through also makes more sense for the development pipeline and sustained income. It also helps keep them in vision as new hardware arrives every 12-18m.
All this does is make me even less interested in the next gen Xbox. I already have a PC and it works best set up on a desk which is more suited to playing FPS / RTS / Sim games. Also it makes the PC more suited to additional task like work and general browsing.
I have had my PC connected to the big TV and it just doesn't work as well in windows mode due to the difference of a 27" monitor upclose vs a 55" screen further away. Gaming is fine, but general windows use is horrible.
Not to mention this device is going to be very pricy if they want PC performance in a small form factor. Its going to be £1000+ and that will not even be high end. Also if it is a true open ended windows platform the security, piracy, hacking, dodgy mods, poor optimisation all get added into the list of problems or a "easy home console".
As @ButterySmooth30FPS stated its too PC for the console crowd and too console for the PC crowd.
Not really buying the price arguement. AAA's that have come over the other way are priced similar so it's too be expected. Forza was even older and it arrived at full price, Starfield will be full price when that arrives also.
It's just the reality that FF is not as popular on Xbox as it is on PS. Also it's the classic gamepass doesn't hurt game sales, whilst people actively say why would they buy it when they can play X on gamepass instead.
@Lowdefal Blood Omen 1 is such a good game. Its often overlooked as the game you don't need to play in TLOK series, but it contains so much lore and background to the series.
I need to do a full series replay at some point but I am waiting to see if they remaster Defiance first.
@Rich33 The original was quite a bit more strategic in how it played outas it had more of a CRPG feel to the combat. The story was really good tho, with some interesting characters and meaty choices. You picked a background origin and they each had their own intro missions. Then you are thrust into the Grey Wardens and the game starts for real.
Number 2 was pretty bad however. The story is the Mage uprising in Kirkwall but it lacks any real high stakes moments. The game is also a product of its time and really suffers from it. There are only like 8 tilesets in the whole game which become stale very fast. The characters outside of Varric and pretty bland, and the choices are not much better. You can see that they were aiming for the style of 3 but before it was manageable.
I have gone Mourn Watch Mage focussing on Frost and Necromancy taking buffs for Area / Duration / Blast.
@Rich33 I'm about 20 hours in and have the quests to recruit the last two members of the team. So far I would say it's easily on par with the original Dragon Age. Number two was easily the worst and number 3 whilst good, didn't hook me quite like this one.
I realised I hadn't actually finished the Nioh 3 demo fully, so I did that last night. I was missing the unlocked mission so blasted through that and killed the boys on my 2nd attempt. An excellent demo everyone should check out imo.
I'll spend the rest of my weekend playing DA: The Veilguard which also is very good. It's honestly a shame it became a lightning rod for the terminally online idiots.
If you listen to the actual interview he reiterates from earlier that the actions of other companies are great for the industry and they like seeing it, but PS have a different strategy. They want the big screen quality which requires a more powerful device. Nintendo want a handheld that has a boosted mode for TV.
@parkerdip The push back is because game prices are being inflated at a higher rate that wages, and everyday goods. We all need food, gas, electric & fuel but games are a luxury, a luxury that can feed a family for a week.
Elden Ring cost me £40 Day 1 three years ago, thats a GOTY that is 100+ hours which was incredible value for money. It also sold by the bucket load straight out of the gate because it was good and priced reasonably.
Most £70 games just cannot compete with that value at all and I think its telling how fast they fall into the £40-£50 sale bracket, and remain there. Its almost like they know its what the game is actually worth but want to profit from the fomo window, whilst moaning that the sales are low out of the gate.
This is the one that needed the remake most. The others had been improved over time but the original had remained sat in PS1 zone completely ignored. Looking forward to replaying it after so many years.
@Perturbator It was pretty different at first and I recall it taking time to get into but when you do the gameplay is much better than the original. I did prefer the story in the first one however as it was incredibly simple to get into.
The first two games were alright, but not incredible. Played them both via PS+ and enjoyed them but don't think I would have spent more than £20 on them each. Will keep an eye on this one but so far its not really giving me Plague Tale vibes and just seems to be a random story about a side character.
Played the Nioh 3 demo which was enjoyable. I'm not fully convinced on the style switching but I still really enjoyed it, and one shotting the final boss made it even better 🤟
Finished Dragon Age Inquisition on PC which was good but bloated in some areas. A few maps where just bigger than they needed to be and a more direct story would have been better.
Now I'm just started Dragon Age The Veilguard which seems pretty good so far. The intro was great and the combat is fun. Skill trees look to be a big improvement on the previous games with build variety. Looking forward to seeing where it all heads.
@Cornpop76 I think they care more about the performance on the SS. It didn't run smooth on the more powerful consoles so I dread to think how poor it would have been on the lower powered one.

@themightyant When it released I kept doing one more run on a Saturday and had to stop when I realised 7 hours had passed and I needed to eat. Its such a clever and addictive game, certainly a contender for GOTY imo
@djlard I still have my Xperia Play in a cupboard. I should really break it out at some point to see if it still works. I loved that phone because I cant stand using on screen overlays to play games.
@Foxhound The digital is currently on offer for £339.99 so with a drive at £69.99 and a stand at £24.99 the whole package is £434.97 and that includes Black Ops. If not everyone needs a stand then you can round that to £410.
@LogicStrikesAgain People are very quick to forget that PS5 started this gen strong with some great games and only look at the output over the last 18m. Its also being unfairly compared to Microsoft with people acting like grit and determination is why MS has solved their output issue, rather than the reality of spending around $80 billion over a few years.
This is just a standard practise used by companies all over the world to promote new subs. Its the same with Internet, Phone, and TV packages. It sucks but its just the way it is.
2077 was a true comeback story on par with NMS. They got the flak they fully deserved for releasing an awful product on launch, but can't fault them for the effort in turning it around with 2.0 into what was a brilliant game.

Did a bit more on DA: The Veilguard and a bit of farming on Diablo 4.

Re: Round Up: What Was Announced for PS5 at Xbox Games Showcase?
SoP > Xbox > SGF for me.
Nioh 3 was easily the game of weekend, it was totally unexpected and shadow dropped a fantastic demo.
The Xbox event was alright but dropped off around the mid point. Some stuff looked okay, but nothing made me excited.
SGF was just dire for the most part outside of RE9 and Code Vein 2.

Overall the show was excellent in my opinion. Nioh 3 was the highlight and damn its looks good, it looks like its had a real glow up and I can't wait to break out my spear once again.
Thief VR looks great and I love to see the old franchise being brought back as the original Thief games where always great. I would love if they actually remastered the first two fully.
FF Tactics is a very welcome remaster as those games are always great. It should be a great play for portal players as that style of game lends itself to chilled out handheld play.
Silent Hill F and Pragmata are definitely on the radar and look like they will be great. Silent Hill should be great as japanese horror has always been more creepy than western imo.
I need to see more on First Light but from the initial glance it looks promising. Third person is way to go as you want to see the iconic character and the trailer gave all the vibes of a classic bond, which I prefer over the Craig era bond.
Im not really into fighting games but Marvel Tokon looks very good, if only for the style choices. I likely won't play it but will gush over the charcter designs regardless.
The only game I am uncertain off was MGS Delta. I can't put my finger on it exactly but whilst I was watching the trailer I kept feeling it looked like a downgrade from the original. I am not sure if it was the trailer or the graphical style but it just did nothing for me.
Solid 10/10 overall

As a non Destiny player can someone explain the difference between the Legacy Collection on Extra and The Final Shape on Essential.
Is it just bonus rewards or something on the higher tier?
