Re: Resident Evil 4 Remake Sales at Nine Million, Series' Fastest-Selling Game

ilyn

@__jamiie I didn't mind the Wii version, but tbh anything RE4 is great as the game itself was good at its core. The thing I enjoyed with the VR version is how it radically changes which weapons you use as things like the rifle with long scope are just so hard to aim when you factor in body shakes.

I've not played 7 in VR as they never made it VR2 compatible, and have 8 waiting in the wings. I kind of wish they would also give us a remake of 1 using that doesn't stick to tank controls as thats what really kills the game for me. Exploring the mansion in VR would be pretty interesting also.

Re: PS3 Games Could One Day Get Emulated on PS5

ilyn

@LifeGirl FF13 not being on available even via PS+ stream is such a let down, and it baffles me why they don't just enable the stream version. You can play the entire series except that 1 game, just makes no sense for a series with strong PS history.

Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 561

ilyn

Finally got around to starting Sekiro and unfortunately its just not clicking for me so far. I have put about 18h in so far but I feel the complete lack of meaningful choice in the game is kind of killing it for me. I get why some people would like it, but for me its far inferior to the Nioh series which did the japan vibe much better.

Other than that I played The Last Clockwinder on PSVR and that was a great bit of fun. If someone told me that playing catch with myself was fun I would not believe them, but it was great and a nice little story along side the gameplay.

Re: Poll: What Are Your Gaming Plans for the Holidays?

ilyn

I have a decent chunk of time off so will probably finally start Sekrio since its been installed for ages and just sits on the homescreen looking at me.

Also need to look fot a VR game that I will weave in there, and will keep going on the Resistance games that I am playing on PS+ as I had forgot how good they where. Its an IP I wish they would reboot but I suppose Insomniac have other things they are doing.

Re: Xbox Is Eager to Build the Best Games You Can Enjoy Everywhere

ilyn

@Medic_alert It could well be a steam machine but it would seem that they are even running behind there as it looks like valve are heavy into developing one also. An Xbox console PC with the Xbox store fails hard compared to a Steam console PC with the full power of steam behind it.

If Steam can pull off a decent under the TV box then I could easily see Xbox becoming Gamepass but without the third party stuff. Basically just following the route all other subs take where each platform have their own sub service and they all get worse value as time goes on.

Re: Elden Ring: Nightreign Explained in Huge IGN Report

ilyn

Its a novel idea, but I am not sold on it yet. I want to see way more info on how it plays for single player with scaling, ai summons as I cba with the multiplayer aspect.

It will also be interesting to see the price as I feel this should be in the £30 - £40 region but I reckon it will be higher.

Re: Elden Ring DLC Not Eligible for BAFTA's Best Game Award

ilyn

SotE is an incredible DLC, so much so that its frankly better made than many full games.. but its still a DLC and so should not be included.

They should just start including a best DLC category so expansions can be celebrated and that way it leaves best ongoing game solely as a live service / mmo category.

Re: Round Up: Indiana Jones Reviews Are Live, Mostly Very Strong

ilyn

@themightyant The whole £35.99 to play 3 days early is the scummiest thing about this generation and I agree it needs regulators to step in and stop it. When its a lower price buy in for 2-3 months of extra access / beta then I understand it, as you are gving players a discount for them helping to test a product they will own. But 2-3 days for 50% of the cost, when you still own nothing, is just predatory fomo on a par with loot boxes.

Re: Poll: Rate Your Favourite PS1 Games

ilyn

Seeing the shout outs to Vagrant Story in the comments makes me once again ask why the hell have they not dropped a remaster for it yet. It was such an incredible game and was one earlier games (in my memory) to have new game with whole extra areas full of new loot and tougher fights.

Such a great game that at a minimum deserves a hi res remaster for modern screens.

Re: Random: Even Clive from Final Fantasy 16 Is Begging for Bloodborne at 60fps

ilyn

@GymratAmarillo There is only mystery because he is top tier Xbox fanboli who has to make everything a big conspiracy or reason that Sony is failing. He is just trying to sow a seed to back up his own narrative that everyone hates Sony, including devs.

When in reality its just that the game was built around 30fps and it would take to much time and money to bother patching it, especially since the patch would only apply to people playing it on the PS5 as the 4 / 4pro would not be able to handle it. That was confirmed by the guy who got the game running at 60fps, as he had to drop it to 720 to manage it.

As you said its simply not worth the time or money for a studio who are pretty busy as they have a constantly packed release schedule and always want to move forward and never go back.

Re: Random: Even Clive from Final Fantasy 16 Is Begging for Bloodborne at 60fps

ilyn

@Shepherd_Tallon Its most likely down to timing possibly mixed in with plans they already have for the game. I imagine their timings for work must be very tight as they do rattle games out much faster than a lot of other studios.

I still think that BB will get the Demon Souls treatment for the PS6 launch and a big bonus for that will be the improved visuals and framerate. So why boost the framerate now when they can make money down the line.

Re: Feature: Why Would Sony Want to Buy Kadokawa?

ilyn

@Wario_Waha who was hating on FS yesterday? If you are referring to people saying that SotE should not be included in GOTY then you are seriously reaching just to troll. But its to be expected as your profile pretty much tells us all we need to know.

Also why does it matter if a game is first party, second party or third party. To the end user it makes no difference if a game is made by Sony, Xbox, Nintendo or subcontracted out to another studio. All that matters is if the game is good and releases on time in a polished state.

Re: Indiana Jones Looks Like an Adventure Worth Waiting for on PS5

ilyn

As always I still think the choice to go 1st person is terrible and ruins what the game could have been. The opening of the deepdive where the room is filling with sand just doesn't work for me in 1st person. it looks like the room is filling up and you jump float to the top and escape. Also having the game go from 1st person to 3rd person anytime something happens really highlights how the whole game should have just been in 3rd person.

Had they gone for VR then I think the game would work really well as it stands, but currently it just looks odd.

Re: Round Up: PS5 Pro Reviews Love New Tech and Its Glimpse of PS6 Potential

ilyn

@LogicStrikesAgain The other thing I have noticed a lot online is that the crowd shouting loudest that consoles are poor value compared to PC GPU's are the die hards who upgraded from a 1080 > 2080 > 3080 > 4080. Which costs far more over a shorter span of time.

@Member_the_game the pricing of future machines is a concern, but I think it fair to say the pricing of everything in general is a concern. Over on Team Green their refreshed consoles have increased, the same happened with the Switch and as economists have already stated when the minimum wage goes up in the UK it will 100% just be pushed down the line onto goods and services. I think the PS6 will probably land at about £550-£600 for the base model in 2027. However when that happens we will probably also be looking at the top end GPU's pushing £2000 with the way Nvidia is going, so the PS will still feel like a bargain.

Re: PS5 Dominates UK Black Ops 6 Sales, As Game Pass Causes Xbox Share to Collapse

ilyn

@Weebleman Exactly right, It was a smoke and mirrors action to make GP appears to have more members despite actually having declined year on year. At the time I did say I fully them to pull the same trick again with other subscriptions so they can bundle it all under the GP name.

GP - WoW for example would allow them to boost the GP figure substantially when they want to obfuscate numbers in future.

Re: Golden Joystick Reveals Nominations for 'Ultimate Game of the Year'

ilyn

@Icey664 Regarding Dragon Age vs Steller Blade. There is always an element of recency bias in these votes where a newer game just sits in peoples mind more than one that came out 6 months ago.

Its one of the oddities with releasing Indy right after the GOTY cut off. Sure it will do well for holiday sales, but next year it will be behind 12m of newer games that sit fresher in peoples mind if it turns out to be award worthy.

Re: Golden Joystick Reveals Nominations for 'Ultimate Game of the Year'

ilyn

@Slippship I think remakes should be allowed where they are full remakes that are build from the ground up and add something new to the game. So Resident Evil. Final Fatasy 7, Demon Souls, Silent HIll remakes all fit. It is a tricky one tho as everyone will have their own opinion on it. Its like how I feel Shadow of the Erdtree could and possibly should be included despite being DLC, just because its bigger and more impressive than some full games.

I hope Astrobot takes the top prize as its just a simple, great fun game that released practically flawless.

Re: Xbox's Legendary Strategy Series Seemingly Set to Invade PS5

ilyn

I am still waiting to see what is happening with Warcraft 3 Reforged as its getting an update but they are being very quite about what is actually happening with it. It looks like its going to land on Gamepass, but with it being the 30 year anniversary of Warcraft I have a feeling they might do something else within that new engine.

Personally I am hoping they add in the the WC1 and WC2 campaigns as DLC since those games are mostly unplayable. Either way it will be a good grab if it lands on GP as it was always my favourite RTS.

Re: UK Sales Charts: Call of Duty Remains Steady on PS5, PS4 Despite Black Ops 6's Xbox Game Pass Inclusion

ilyn

@alienwithin Try trolling elsewhere because you are terrible at it.

30% cut from a best selling franchise, which is up 60% on their platform, and cost them nothing at all. No marketting, no development, no publishing just a straight up 30% on all digital sales and all future microtransactions for no work at all. Yes MS take 70% but they have to spend a large portion of that on initial and continued development, or would you like to pretend its cost them nothing?

The highest rated full game of 2024 is a Sony 1st party, the 3rd is a 3rd party exclusive, the 8th is also 1st party ... PS users can also play the 2nd, 5th, 6th, 9th and 10th highest rated game on the platform..... but sure 8/10 of the best rated game this year is no games I guess.

🤡

Re: PS5 Pro was a '5-Year Project', In Development Before PS5's Launch

ilyn

@OmegaStriver Personally I don't mind it as we do know roughly what each studio is up to, they are just not throwing information at us until they are sure its good to go, Astrobot is a prime example of very little build up but it was coooked to perfection and is a very strong contender for GOTY as a result.

If you look at the MS roadmap they are constantly pushing things back on it by a few months here and there. Not to mention announcing a release date to far can locks publishers into having to ship games or get bad feedback for delay after delay.

Its a tricky tightrope but I think given the last few years I prefer the just tell me whats coming, when its coming as I don't need 18m of hype and everyone has a backlog regardless.

Re: Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2 PS5 Offers Tasty Gameplay Morsel

ilyn

Redemption was brilliant, Bloodlines was also great. When younger we played a lot of VTM 2nd Edition, VTM Dark Ages, Werewolf and Mage pen and paper. So its safe to say I am a fan of the WoD franchise but this just looks like its going to be a bit of a flop, which is not surprising given its development hell.

Right from the start when they character is using what I assume to be Movement of the Mind to hold and fire a weapon. It just makes no sense as you would no use vitae to hold a weapon 6 inches away from your hand for edgelord vibes.

Hopefully they makes something salvagable but I am not convinced from what they have shown so far.

Re: PS5 Pro was a '5-Year Project', In Development Before PS5's Launch

ilyn

This take time to develop, this is not really a shocking discovery. I really don't understand why people think that the Pro being developed 5 years ago means that the OG5 should have been better. You have to realise that will also have been in development for probably 4-5 years before it released so it was being created roughly 9 years ago.

Re: Metro Awakening Will Be a Reason to Own PSVR2 This Holiday

ilyn

@Kraven If it plays anything like the RE VR games then it will be very good. There are a lot of people who try to bash the PSVR2 but personally I would say it utterly transforms how you play games and raises them to a whole new level. Its the little things on RE that stand out like looking over your shoulder and being able to shoot the thing coming up behind you in the head without fully turning around. Or having to back pedal whilst grabbing a clip, putting it in your gun and pulling back the slide rather than just Press Square to Reload. And also completely rethinking what weapons are good because the usual god tier sniper rifles are so much harder to use when you factor in your arms doing the aiming and your shaking like mad.

Re: PS5, PC Flop Concord Never Returning, Studio Closed Down

ilyn

Its a shame for al the Devs who are out of work because this projects failure doesn't sit squarely on their shoulders. The higher ups who championed the game could, and should, have stepped in to repoint it in a better direction. As usual however they will get no real consequences, and even if they did it would be a golden handshake whilst the workers get all the blame for what was clearly a mismanaged project.
