Hogwarts Legacy's latest update added (amongst other things) a new accessibility option called Arachnophobia Mode, which changes the game's many spider enemies from nightmarish, multi-limbed monstrosities into cuter, more aesthetically pleasing critters, as YouTuber WizardPhD demonstrates (above).

Officially, Arachnophobia Mode makes the following modifications to the game:

  • Changes all enemy spider appearances
  • Reduces and removes spider skitters and screeches
  • Removes small spider ground effect spawners
  • Makes static spider corpses in the world invisible
    • Collision is still active to prevent players from getting stuck when toggling this setting
  • Note that spider images in the Field Guide remain unchanged

Considering how many people are horrified by the thought of spiders and the awful realism of Howarts Legacy's depiction of them, we imagine Arachnophobia Mode will see a fair bit of play. We like to imagine a group of artists in an office, somewhere deep in the bowels of Avalanche Software, who were devastated by this development and what was done to their abominable creations.

What do you think of Arachnophobia Mode, do you hope other developers follow suit? What games have the most horrific implementations of spiders in your reckoning? Scuttle on down to the comments section below.
