Re: Deathloop Update 1.2 Has Improved Enemy AI

captainsandman

@WallyWest It is pretty immersive breaking when AI is overly dumb. It is still one of the biggest things that needs to be improved in next gen games. We haven't had substantial breakthroughs in AI player reactions and movement in many generations.

Re: A Plague Tale: Innocence - The Rats of Us

As far as story based games go, this is an easy 9. If you love a good yarn then this is a must play. Combat gets a little repetitive and there are a few frustrating moments but that does not hamper it much at all. It is well worth a playthrough.

Re: PS5 Firmware Update Adds External Storage Support for PS5 Games, Social Features, and More Tomorrow

captainsandman

Great news. I am most excited about the Gamebase improvements and the ability to adjust players chat volume. Folders would be a nice addition eventually. It would also be cool to adjust the long press and quick press of the PlayStation button. Still getting used to that one and I have had the system since launch. What probably throws me off is the delay that sometimes happens.

Re: The Last of Us Is Getting a PS5 Remake Eight Years After Release, Claims Report

captainsandman

Not going to lie, I would play it. It is just not at the top of my list of ways I think Sony should invest their money.😁
We are at a point with Sony were there is a lull in games, it is hard to find the PS5, and they are at odds with their most loyal fanbase by closing the Vita/PSP/PS3 stores. They need a big year next year and a lot of this will be forgotten. They also need to figure out a way to fire back at Game Pass.

Re: PlayStation Emulation Patent Raises Hopes of Retro Support

captainsandman

They can easily emulate for PS1/PS2 generation games. No excuses there, more like a lack of interest from gamers and it is not worth the effort on their end. Lets be honest, we can barely keep up with the games from the PS4/PS5 gen, much less play dated games from 20+ years ago. I would love to see it happen though because of the game preservation angle. However, I would never play them myself.
The PS3 cell architecture is another can of worms to unpack. I don't believe that even the PS5 hardware can smoothly emulate PS3 games in a manor in which we would want to play them. There would be all sort of performance issues and game errors that would crop up. Not exactly what you would want your customer having access to or have them complain about. Streaming them remotely through Now is still the best option and they will eventually port over and remaster most of the beloved games from the PS3 era.

Re: Sony Sounds Bitter About the Cyberpunk 2077 Debacle

captainsandman

@rpg2000 I don't think they were the same and I was naming Days Gone because I knew there were a few issues at launch. I don't think any of them were game breaking but that was the closest Sony launch I could think of that might have been better off waiting a few months. If you read my comment I was more asking if Day's Gone was buggy enough at release to go against what Ryan was saying. I didn't play it until the PS5 so I am unsure of it's release state.

Re: Sony Sends Employees Custom Commemorative PS5 Jackets

captainsandman

@Dronewolf You have to realize that Microsoft can't even keep up with the demand and they have sold less systems. Even the chip makers can't even make enough chips to keep up with the demand for high end graphics cards. They are making this stuff as fast as they can because they don't want to miss out on potential sales and most of their profit comes from the store/game purchases.

Re: Sony Sends Employees Custom Commemorative PS5 Jackets

captainsandman

@Rhaoulos I said the software is bare bones at this point and I agree their website and store need a lot of work. Marketing seems to have worked because of all the commotion over it. Did way worse than Microsoft and Nintendo last gen? Not sure what that even means because Sony probably had the best first party lineup and their console sales numbers were over 100 million. They were the first console to have streaming and a subscription service. Microsoft threw the curveball of Game Pass late in the gen and Sony countered with lowering the cost of PS Now and bolstering the lineup (I still think Now needs work and a rebrand. They will forever be behind the 8 ball due to the PS3 generation being so hard to emulate.).
All in all they had a good last gen and about as good as a launch at you can have in a pandemic. They need to fix their messaging, PS Now, website, store, and continue to update PS5 with new features.
Lets not forget, it's all about the games and Sony continues to deliver.

Re: Sony Sends Employees Custom Commemorative PS5 Jackets

captainsandman

@Rhaoulos With the high demand and a global pandemic I really don't know how it could have been done better from Sony's side. Sure, they could have forced Target and Walmart to implement better bot protection but that is not within their scope of responsibility.
As far as games go, this launch selection was pretty stellar plus we got the PlayStation Plus collection.
Nitpicks
Their console software could be better and it is missing some features out of the box. Its ease of use could have also been better as well. I am tired of running tech support for my buddies that picked one up.

Re: Six Months After Release, The Last of Us 2 Gets a New Story Trailer

captainsandman

Have they announced any upgrade path for PS5? The game literally came out this year. You would think they would have planned for the PS5 as well. I refuse to buy it until there is a statement on whether we have to pay for a remaster or it gets improvements for free like Days Gone. I find this very odd that none of the Naughty Dog games play much better on the PS5. I would love to play all of their games in 60fps or more.

Re: PS Plus, PS Now Members Frustrated by Duplicate PS4 Games

captainsandman

Instead of combining them, maybe have the + features built-in to Now. That way you don't have to pay for both. Thus having a tiered service. I think those typically work out because not everyone wants to pay for streaming rights for ps3 and ps2 and random low quality PS4 games. Then keep PS+ intact for those who want a basic inexpensive service.

Re: Sony Boss Jim Ryan Doesn't Know if Starfield's Coming to PS5 Anymore

captainsandman

@TheFrenchiestFry That was a few gens ago. They are widely known as a 3rd party company now. Just because they favor Microsoft (probably due to getting extra money) doesn't mean that it was similar to Sony's relationship with Insomniac or Sucker Punch. Should Sony get a pass if they bought Activision because they made Crash Bandicoot and PlayStation gets Call of Duty exclusive content? I see that as more comparable situation if it happened.

Re: Sony Boss Jim Ryan Doesn't Know if Starfield's Coming to PS5 Anymore

captainsandman

@TheFrenchiestFry You realize that most of those companies you mentioned made 2nd party exclusives. They already made games exclusively for one system or another. Sony had a proven track record with them and that is why they were purchased. Bethesda was mainly 3rd party so most of their games were on all platforms. A totally different situation.

Re: Mass Effect Legendary Edition Gets Korean Age Rating

captainsandman

@nessisonett Didn't they say that the Mass Effect remasters were happening but were pushed to next year because the original Mass Effect did not match the quality of the remasters of Mass Effect 2 and 3? I don't think we need an official announcement until they are able to drop a trailer that shows the actual quality of the game and when it will be released.

Re: Ghost of Tsushima Supports 60 Frames-Per-Second on PS5, Better Load Times

captainsandman

@thefourfoldrot I should have been clearer. I know that it will still work in backwards compatibility mode. Same as Spiderman PS4. My reticence comes from the fact that they have a PS5 version of Spiderman and a backwards compatible version. I don't want to buy Ghosts now simply to find out later that I will.also need to buy a PS5 version to get updated textures, character models, draw distance, and more combatants (etc etc). They need to lay out the roadmap or communicate with the user base on which games are getting a paid PS5 upgrade version and which ones are getting free boost mode (like ghosts). I want to know that the free boost mode is the end all be all of the game and not just a hold over until they have a paid PS5 upgrade. Again, I know the PS4 version will always work on the PS5 in boost mode. I just want the best version and to not have to buy it twice if I don't have to. Luckily, I never bought Spiderman for this very reason. Now I can but Miles Morales with the Spiderman PS5 version and live my best life. Sony is just lacking in communication. I want them to at least try and model what CD Project Red has done with Cyberpunk. It will have a boost mode on PS5 until they have a free PS5 upgrade of various improvements. That messaging is clear and concise. I would be fine if Sony came out and said that Ghosts has a boost mode but we are also planning a paid PS5 version. This post is long winded but it's just me venting about Sony's basic lack of communication skills for this next gen.

Re: Ghost of Tsushima Supports 60 Frames-Per-Second on PS5, Better Load Times

captainsandman

Before I buy a first party PS4 game that I haven't already purchased I would like a clear statement that there will not be a PS5 version that I would also have to buy. This statement states that it will be backwards compatible (like 99.9% of PS4 games) with some hardware acceleration. This does not mean that there will be a free PS5 upgrade if they choose to go above and beyond the 60fps performance boost. They could still pull a Spiderman on us.

Re: Reaction: Spider-Man PS5 Debacle Shows Sony Is Out of Touch

captainsandman

@Skuggs23 I think if you took what Microsoft is doing out of the equation then nobody would be knocking Sony's approach. I love the added PlayStation Plus library of games you get when you buy a PS5. That's a great idea. Microsoft has a remarkable value proposition right now that is hard for a lot of people to pass up. Sure they are missing exclusives but a lot of people just play Multiplatform games anyways. One of my close friends ditched the PS for a XSX because MLB the Show was going Multiplatform. That was the only thing holding him back from switching. He loves the game pass model. I don't think that model is sustainable while keeping the quality of games high. I am still in Sony's camp because I love their exclusives and i want to do VR next gen. I still think their is a market for their approach but they will lose customers this gen.

Re: Reaction: Spider-Man PS5 Debacle Shows Sony Is Out of Touch

captainsandman

I was OK with paying for remastered games between the PS/PS2/PS3 to PS4 because it wasn't possible to play those games on a PS4 and I thought a lot of those games needed extra polish to make them playable on a HD tv. I know for many PS4 games moving to a PS5 it's not as simple as moving a slider bar to upgrade the textures, AI, and other game improvements. If they want to spend the extra time and resources to add those improvements and they are significant enough then I could see them charging on a case by case basis. On paper it may make sense for them to charge but with companies like CD Projekt Red doing free upgrades for existing users it makes Sony look very cheap and consumer unfriendly. In the end you still can play all your PS4 games on the PS5 but anything above and beyond that we are at the publishers mercy. Sony needs to see how competitive Microsoft is this gen and adjust their plan before they solidify themselves as a company that nickels and dimes its customers.
