We've known for a while that Destiny 2 will receive a free PS5 upgrade, bringing big improvements on the next-gen system. Well, that upgrade now has a release date: the 8th December 2020. What's more, developer Bungie has detailed everything that you can expect from its looter shooter when it takes advantage of Sony's upcoming console.
Here's a quick breakdown of how Destiny 2 will run on PS5 once the update has been released:
- 4K resolution
- 60 frames-per-second
- Field of view slider
- Faster load times
- Cross-generation play with PS4 players
And yes, that does say 'field of view slider'. Bungie elaborates: "We are offering Field of View customization on consoles for the first time. Our goal is to enable a FOV range similar to that on PC. We’re currently testing these settings to ensure smooth performance across each platform and will have additional details closer to launch." Cool!
It's also worth noting that you'll be able to play Destiny 2 on PS5 before the upgrade is released thanks to backwards compatibility. Load times should be a little shorter, but that's about it.

guess I will play demon'soul
I keep wanting to get back in Destiny, as I’ve always enjoyed my time with it.... hoping they release some kind of bundle where I can get all the DLC in one “affordable” (haha) pack, as the PS5 upgrade seems like a great place to start
Switching over to PS5 because PC is littered with cheaters
@Rabovo Welp a lot of the old content is getting put in a vault when Beyond Light comes out so a large chunk of it won't be accessible... Beyond Light should (hopefully) be a good place to jump back in.
I wonder how much faster load times can be because most of those loading screens is the servers doing stuff unrelated to loading in game assets.
@Mintie ah maaaaaan.
I’ve seen that there’s an “upgrade version” available, with years 2/3 included, if I was to buy that now, would it be redundant by Beyond Light?
From what I can tell the last two big Expacs are still there (Forsaken and Shadowkeep) but pretty much everything from base D2 is getting shelved...
Polygon have a pretty comprehensive list of what's leaving - https://www.polygon.com/2020/8/21/21395879/destiny-2-beyond-light-content-vault-leaving-retiring-sunset-raids-strikes-planets
My brother in law plays this non stop!
If it loads faster then will the loading be slowed down when playing with a PS4 player?
Welcome to the pc version because that's all it is really, and load times are a bit faster because I had it installed on my SSD and it was faster compared to my normal HDD
@2cents Console is littered with cheaters as well tho! Really bad!
