@PupTwilight Absolutely false. The first Trolls made 346 million worldwide plus additional money being made afterwards in streaming and digital/physical purchases. Big budget movies can generate billions in revenue. This has not proven to be possible without the theater model. Not to mention that movies that hit theaters also make a decent amount of money on home video and streaming deals. Please educate yourself before making outlandish claims. While the Trolls World Tour was somewhat of a success story it would have fared better with theater revenue.
@phil_j I get you. I play 30 minutes of a game on Game Pass PC and if it doesn't grab me I delete it. If I would have purchased that game I would have given it a little more time to win me over. Same thing with music. Unlimited options and I jump from album to album and never give them the time they deserve. Back in the CD days I would listen to them on repeat and a lot of albums get better on 2nd and 3rd listens. I don't give stuff that chance anymore.
So I see Microsoft being a good middle to indie game platform and Sony pushing their AAA games to sell systems. Having game pass on PC makes it the perfect generation to own both a bomb ass PC and a PS5. That way you get the best of both worlds.
@Th3solution I agree. I do love the game pass model for the middle to indie type of games. I don't know how it works out for them but it seems to be the type of games that belong on that sort of platform. Then adding in older AAA games in the mix to fill some of the void. I think that model is sustainable. I don't think it's sustainable to bring all 1st party games day 1 and then for us to expect the same volume or quality of AAA titles. I like Microsoft's Game Pass. I have it on PC and it's a great value add. I just see that there is a lot to be desired from their 1st party library. I discovered my love for Forza Horizon 4 and I was surprised that I enjoyed playing through GoW 4 but outside of those series the middle ware and indies are keeping me around.
I completely agree. It wasn't good for the music or movie industry, but it was good for consumers early on. Do you really think we would get the amount of big blockbuster movies if the theaters didn't exist? No, they cannot make money just bringing blockbusters straight to streaming. That's what Sony wants to continue to do. Make big AAA single-player games and sell them for what they are worth. In the end the subscription model will affect the quality of the product and the consumer loses out to big business once more.
The racers this gen have been pretty disappointing outside of DriveClub. I recently tested out Forza Horizon 4 on Game Pass PC and it was a pretty standout title. Sony really needs to have more alternatives in this genre.
@oldschool1987 It can never be completely on par because the PS4 does not support backwards compatibility. EA's hands are tied. The only thing they can do is lower the cost for PS4 access.
@ankehuber Another studio could technically make it because I believe it's Sony property. I wouldn't hold my breadth because the original did not sell well. It was never going to happen.
@carlos82 As far as we know this is correct. Sony hasn't fully revealed the backwards compatibility features yet. Smart Delivery is also up to the Devs/Publishers if they want to implement it.
@PretendWorking Yeah, I doubt Nintendo's generations will be as long as PS4 or Xbox. Tech changes a lot faster in handhelds and I am sure they will release a new one in a two years.
@Grindagger They still have 48mil to go. The PS2 sold 158m. The way the Switch is selling it is entirely possible that it ends up besting the PS4 sales numbers.
People forget that Sony already has Xbox Game Pass in the form of Playstation Now. The argument should be if Sony should lower its price and included all first party titles at launch. I think AAA games should hit PS Now after a year and Sony should lower the cost to match Games Pass.
The problem Sony is running into is that they were first out of the gate with streaming. This means that they are supporting a library of games that can be streamed and PS4 games that can be downloaded. This is a more costly service to run on the back end compared to Xbox Game Pass. I would assume that once Microsoft launches its streaming service that it will be a separate service from Game Pass.
In summary: PS Now is a hybrid service that either needs to be split up into a PS Game Pass and a Streaming service or lower the price to match the Xbox Game Pass and increase Now's library of content. I say Sony should just lower the price and increase content and then Microsoft will need to fire back.
@jdv95 I think we are forgetting the big picture here. The internet landscape will look drastically different in 5 to 10 years. More and more people everyday have access to high tier internet and the demand is rising. I don't think streaming is meant to replace standalone consoles yet. There are still plenty of customers that will still need physical media for years to come. Take a look at the music industry. As streaming services grew and became better the market share of physical media has decreased by huge margins. It comes down to a couple factors, convenience and cost. Most people now stream music and video even though they could get a better picture or sound by other methods. It only makes sense that gaming will go down the same path.

Don't get me wrong. I would love it if Sony actually did it but I think there will be reduced quality as that model plays out.

Downloaded via Game Pass on PC and this gets me excited!

@EquiinoxGII This is not a GaaS.

Re: Poll: Did You Buy Ghost of Tsushima?
Should be an option for waiting for PS5. I will be playing this and the LoU 2 there.

Re: Gallery: PS5's Design Is Unorthodox But Unforgettable
@TooBarFoo It looks like it's weird looking specifically to enhance cooling. What about this makes it look like it will run hot?
Re: PS5 Unreal Engine 5 Gameplay Demo Finally Shows Us What Next-Gen Games Look Like
@Arugula Yeah, I thought the hair looked plastic-y and the water looked a tad weird. Great tech demo though.
