For the love of everything I hope they remake Resident Evil 1. Having finished it a few weeks ago for the first time, the controls are so bad at this point. I would love to see it remade like RE2-4 as it would make the scares much more intense due to the small rooms and halls throughout the game.
Having played both in the past week, I will say Part II has good gameplay but a terribly edited story. Part I has a couple weak sections but was fantastic.
I seriously don't get the love for II as it ruined Joel's death with its terribly character switching at the beginning making it loss any impact for me. Abby was a great character but playing her so late in the game made it near impossible to care about her or any of her storyline. Ellie has a decent story but character motivations are too all over the place to make it easy to invest in.
Loved the characters in II but god damn was that story so meh.
I almost forgot to add how hilarious II made it that the enemies would announce when you killed someone and act mad. I found it hilarious as all I kept thinking about was South Park killing Kenny made every death funny just to see their reaction.
The biggest problem with this whole Microsoft-Activision deal is that Microsoft is buying publishers not developers. After Bethesda, they basically removed a publisher from the marketplace and the Activision deal will do the same. Would a game like Sekiro be made without a Activision type publisher. While is dislike the developers being bought up, I see the publisher buyouts as a much more dangerous turn of events.
Good on them. Saints Row was really the most fun game I've played this year so really hoping this means we get a sequel that hopefully is closer to 3 and 4.
So I'm playing Death Stranding right now and I have no idea why this game gets a lot of love. I've literally walked thru drab environments designed to represent America apparently (Literally could have said it was Pandora and I'd believe you). Story seems interesting but I've run into some mountain lady who said leave and now have to walk clear back to South Lake for some reason. Music is terrible because it plays randomly and adds nothing at the points it happens. I've learned that shaking babies makes them shut up apparently and killing people is bad m'kay. I love the road system but no one is adding to it so what's the point of expanding it. Exploring is pointless as all it results in is seeing one rock here and another slightly bigger rock there. I feel like they had something with the roads and bridges systems and maybe the story but haven't finished it yet. But seriously a sequel just seems like a waste of talent. Just create something new. Death Stranding 2 so far is definitely going to be a watch on YouTube for me so far.
@Tchunga More people will look at the score and see the 10s and assume it is great for them even without learning anything else beyond the score and maybe a trailer at best. It's not the reviewers fault but who do you think the buyer will blame for the bad purchase? People tend to blame others for their mistake so they will blame From and the Review site that they thought was looking out for them.
So far after 20 hours having beat Rennala, the game is a 7 for me. Negatives: -The open world is pretty barren and leveling is too slow as side bosses often give so little runes that you don't even get a level. Normal enemies also have too low rune drops with most hovering around 100 so far. -Enemies can hit you through walls just like a From games. It is a flaw that really needs addressed as in this type of game it is an issue. -Often the mobs have too many enemies making fighting them a chore at least for me. -The side bosses are way too easy and don't prepare you at all for main bosses. Those bosses are also pretty easy at least so far. -Magic seems overpowered. -The map is kinda bad. The markers are not helpful. It should have let you mark places and leave notes on your map which would have helped immensely in immersing the player. -Exploring can end up being a chore and often isn't rewarding. -Boss fights are simply not rewarding to me (Personal grip) Positives: -The visuals are great and the music in boss fights is great. -The main bosses are pretty good so far and make it accessible even for non souls players (At least from my experience. Only finished Bloodborne prior) -Main dungeons are great to explore but are too vertical at times. -Easy side dungeons can make for a great palate swap from difficult encounters similar to Dark Souls II. -Summons are really great. Demihuman gang for life. -Main bosses are visually impressive. -Story is much more engaging than past From games.
Overall, I do like the game but I feel that the game has been overhyped and overrated to a degree. I feel this will lead to many picking it up and being very disappointed in it. I'm hopeful that later parts will change my mind but based on what I've encountered I don't it will get higher than a 8 for me.
But I wonder how many of those people are leaving the game disappointed? I mean I purchased it and so far I find the game a slog to play thru. It is nothing like the trailers made it seem to me. I wish there was a way to track how long people stayed with the game as that is the real metric on this game. The sales numbers help From Software but the staying power of the game would show how many bought it due to the dishonest way the game advertised itself and the 10/10 reviews that pushed it on to people who should probably not have attempted it.
I definitely see game pass coming to PlayStation but probably with some limitations on games included on the service. I think it would be smart to market a XBOX game pass with XBOX exclusives on PlayStation. It would help to get PlayStation only gamers into XBOX's ecosystem potentially growing the service overall.
Is any one surprised? The game had little marketing. It's a sequel to a game most people have never heard of. The first game isn't on PS4. It is also overpriced for an unknown property for the general audience.
Honestly I liked the Dragon Keep DLC as part of Borderlands 2, but as a standalone product it sucks. The combat has not aged well and feels slow and the enemies are terrible to fight against. Each new map feels very big and very empty making exploring them a chore. I really feel that this DLC should have remained as such and not been released on its own. Seriously disappointed by this product.
Didn't care for Valhalla. But Odyssey really was one of the best games on PS4 for me. Changing to Action RPG was a fantastic idea for Assassin's Creed.
Deathloop looks interesting but I have not been a fan of Prey or the Dishonored games. Not sure if Deathloop will be any better for me. Might pick it up on sale one day.
I love the idea but knowing how the industry will move, they will quickly pervert it into something awful. Maybe not Sony but just wait till EA or 2K give you the Director's Cut of some crappy game just to make a buck. It will become the Game of the Year Edition of this generation.
Can you really blame people for this kind of stuff. These companies spent decades creating 'loyal' fans to buy their games and also to become console fanboys. And suddenly as it it gets more toxic and people get more tribal, the game sites and publishers wonder why people get so angry. I'm all for a Xbox Hideo game but find it stupid how the gaming press and game publishers still aren't taking responsibility for creating this toxicity.
I'd argue that perhaps they are learning from Nintendo and going the premium route. There is an argument that these sales are not good for the developers considering the quality they put into them. Not saying I don't love a good 50% off sale but how many PlayStation games can you say are not worth the price on average.
Alright I have to ask do developers not realize that most multiplayer games by independent developers seem to fail. Not saying that this one will but come on. At this point these type of games either need to be on game pass or PS Plus day one to get a large enough audience to support them. Seriously, the game looks great but if its just going to be dead in a month what's the point. I hope it succeeds though.
Only question I have is how long is this game going to be given that it is a roguelike. Really interested but will have to wait until after reviews and a price drop probably.
@get2sammyb I really liked what I played so unless reviews are truly abysmal, I probably will get it at full price. It being on Game Pass doesn't really matter to me as I won't be getting an Xbox Series X for at least another year or so.
It's good to know this is coming to PS4/PS5 as every time I see it, it looks cool but always seems like an exclusive for XBOX due to their advertisements.
The biggest problem for me with this game is that the control scheme is garbage. R1R2 being the attack buttons is awful. It may work for Dark Souls but for fast combat it feels wrong. Remapping it is also near impossible as every button seems to have 3 different things tide to the buttons. Unlike the last two games Valhalla doesn't have alternate controls.
I really don't see the difference between them. Seriously the leap between generations is tiny. Load times being the only thing that might be different [I'll believe it when I see it].
With games going up to 70, I probably will have to cut spending on new games. On average I buy most of the big games every year at launch. 70 is a lot harder to justify than 60. 60 is just on the precipice of being too high but is passable. 70 means the games better be damn good or they really need to start offering refunds for bad games.
69.99 for a game is asking too much. People often cite that movie prices increased but games haven't in 15 years. However, those two can't be compared as you really don't need to justify a movie price. In my state a movie costs less than $20. 20 dollars is easy, 70 dollars is complicated. 60 is just on the precipice of high priced but easier to justify due to its proximity to $50. Hopefully this rant made any sense. Probably not. Guess I'll buy games on sale next generation.
The thing I see as a problem with this is that you may need to replace controllers more often than on previous generations. I mean if something locks up people tend to press harder.
Decent list, but I really have found this year to be the worst year in a while for games. So far none of the games from 2020 have been very engaging. Really hoping this fall is better.
Honestly, from what I've played the game doesn't look any better then any AAA game I've played this generation. Ghost of Tsushima is literally Assassin's Creed made by a different company.
Not likely. I find the increase laughable as many games end up not even being worth $60. Some games also make way more then their budget [NBA 2K for example] and still they want more. Few games if any are worth more than $60 [Witcher 3 being one].
Fast travel makes games more fun. Often the journey isn't as good as the destination in games. It is on you the player to want to take the long way which for many takes to long or is boring.

Thanks for saving me $70 dollars. Was on the fence on Returnal but now I'll wait till it is PS Plus or $10 dollars or less.
