State of Play Confirmed for 3rd September, Deep Dive on 007 First Light

Man I hope this isn't the only state of play from them this month.

This is a third-party solo SoP I can get behind.

Well that is disappointing. A whole State of Play dedicated to a third-party title that will release on all platforms, feels like a huge waste in my opinion. Does a game like this really need a 30 minute gameplay deep-dive?

If its just this game then its going to be called SOP for me State of Poo as this game looks like a Temu Uncharted version

September 3rd is the day I go to the dentist and probably will leave my life savings there. Enjoy SoP everyone, I probably will be crying.

Oh wow. I figured they could have probably done like 10 minutes of this game in a regular varied State of Play. They are so scarce nowadays too, so I feel like it could be a few months for another one. Or, they could announce a big title in a blog post. They are a bit odd nowadays.

Guess the next real showcase will be to introduce the PS6. Shame we only get State of Plays nowadays.

The game seems cool from what I've seen so far, looking forward to learning a bit more about it.

I will take it as i'm very excited for the game.

With Perfect Dark getting cancelled looks like this game will now have my full attention, hopefully it can live up to the likes of Golden Eye or Nightfire.

I am not shaken nor stirred by this news.

How can people be disappointed?

They dont set out when state of plays are and then decide what's in them.

Playstation has 0 to show right now, so why jot a 007 deep dive.

Im hyped for it and I know playstation will deliver thr games when they are ready.

@Bez87 if Sony has zero to show right not than that's a bad sign, we are in the last few years of this generation and Sony has been pretty quiet for years now.

Oh well another third party for all consoles and PC, State of Play.

This feels largely unnecessary. Why couldnt it have just been at one of the recent game shows?

I'm looking forward to finding out more about 007 First Light. If they're having a game specific SoP now maybe the release is early on in 2026 like February?

This is releasing on every system known to man, why does it have to be Sony that holds the L and waste one of their state of play on it?

I have very little interest in this game based on what they showed previously, intrigued to see what this game turns out like though.

This has nothing to do with Sony having nothing to show, it's to do with Sony marketing this game and helping the game gain more attention likely due to an agreement. But of course people want to turn this into a negative towards Sony.

The Borderlands 4 and Ghost of Yotei SoPs were pretty decent so I will give this a watch as well.

I'm not hype for this game despite it looks pretty nice. But James Bond is a big name and i'm sure there are plenty of people who hype for it, which is the purpose of this month SoP.

So i personally don't feel dissapointed. It's not like this and next month aren't pack with tons of games. There's Silent Hill f, Ghost of Yotei, Ninja Gaiden 4, Silksong, FF Tactics Remastered, Terminator 2D No Fate, DQ 1 & 2 HD, Cronos: The New Dawn, Little Nightmares 3, Neon Inferno, etc. We also just got Shinobi, Lost Soul Aside, and MGS Delta.

I have a feeling there will be another SoP since TGS is at the end of this month. But if not, Sony probably gonna save it for October-November which usually have 1 hour running time and shows games for next year.

Excitement 0%. Looks like a ps4 game and bond looks sillly.

@Dan12836666 Why? My guess is Sony possibly spent a good chunk of marketing for this game. I mean, they used to produced and distribute James Bond movies for like a decade from Casino Royale to Spectre and all 4 movies made them $$$$.

And they just did SoP for Yotei back in July.

This one deserves more light shed on it so that's cool. It makes sense that Sony would market for this. They have largely ridden off the backs of third party releases this gen while they continue to make terrible decisions on the first party studio front.

Hopefully this one doesn't have the live service sandbox design, void of any real story that the modern hitman games did.
I really bounced off that drivvle despite being a lover of stealth gameplay.

@AdamNovice Technically possible, yes, but based on past evidence extremely unlikely. Not something to call people stupid over. In the previous 3 years, they've done a single SoP/showcase in September, so the assumption that this is it for the month is not a particularly wild one.

If they have another one lined up, then obviously that would be great.

Disappointing. Heard there was a State of Play possibly happening this month, but if it’s entirely dedicated to a game I’m not interested in, well…there you go. Fingers crossed for the Showcase which probably won’t happen 🫠

I think i’m one of a few who didnt think the trailer was appealing at all, but hey maybe this’ll change my mind, wont be watching it live though, just not interested. Hope they still do a proper SoP near Tokyo Game Show

Casually keeping an eye on the game but don't think I'll watch this live. Maybe later. Just can't help but wish for another Uncharted every time I see something like this. I know they're not directly comparable really but that's the itch I want to scratch. Would love a demo though so hopefully that might be announced?

SoP rarely delivers and I honestly often find them boring. I feel nothing when the announce them, I can't explain why.

It's a bit odd to give a third-party game a dedicated state of play, though I'm excited to see more of 007 First Light.

Considering we are 5 years into this generation I was really hoping PlayStation would finally have something to show.

I don’t care if Jim with GaaS screwed them over. Being 5 years in and they still have nothing to show is very disappointing.

I am too also a bit dissapointed that September SoP is dedicated to a game and not a variety. Hope they have another SoP more akin to that before the end of year.

Speaking about this SoP: While I am looking forward to the game I don't feel like it's need a 30 minuted showing at all! I now I won't be watching since its set-pieces and story are the main reasons to buy for me and I don't want them spoiled.

State of Play focused on third party game means we will not see any Sony first party game for a looong time. If they had anything to show they would I guess.

And that 007.. I am not convinced to buy it. If that was a mature, serious game with some movie like theme - would buy day1.
But 007 James Bond Junior not really..

I thought the reveal was decent but yeah hope this doesn’t mean we don’t get a proper state of play soon…

I cannot say I am surprised that there is not a more standard State of Play or Showcase, as they have nothing 1st party to show yet. Right now, the Saros game is the only thing that MIGHT make 2026 with Wolverine still in development and Intergalactic: The Heretic Prophet looking like a PS6 launch title.

With PS6 launching in around 2 years, I would expect no more than 1-2 1P games with some 2P publishing deals and some 3P timed exclusivity deals between then. Jim Ryan did a number on single-player games for this generation with that live service strategy, and now we have to wait it out.

This is a minor thing for most people, but when I see things portrayed in media that I know a thing or two about, I tend to get overly critical. I've spent the better part of two decades in telecom for example - it makes my eyebrow twitch when cop shows have people tracking down suspects by banging on a keyboard and TrIaNgUlAtInG tHe SiGnAl. Christ. I'm also a guy with a good amount of training in pistols - it bugs me in video games when the basic grip is not only wrong, but it's wrong in the way of "someone who did no research beyond vague recollections of bad Hollywood films from the 90's." Yes, I know it's little, and yes, I know it's stupid, but it makes me think that if they've got Bond tea-cupping a pistol in a promotional shot, what other crap did they get wrong?

@Leinad7 they did one for boarderlands 4 , it means they have the marketing rights for these games , it doesn't mean anything more to it then that.

I love people dumping on this. From the goodwill generated by the Hitman games to the fact that their SoP trailer is #1 in views on the Playstation channel from that whole stream, not to mention the brand recognition, anyone going "why do this?" is not thinking 4 dimensionally.

@Americansamurai1 They cancelled around 90% of the live service games they had in the works. It was around 11 or 12 games in total I think.

We have come to accept there is going to be a massive lull because all the studios that were working on these games have had to go back to the drawing board.

What else is left in the works. There's Wolverine and maybe another Insomniac title but again they were compromised with leaks and data theft.

Sony have made some bad decisions and unlucky in other areas. Its going to take years for them to get going again.

We have to accept its going to be slow for another 3 years minimum I'd say in terms of exclusives.

@NeonTiger Sure - it's common in media to see a two handed pistol grip with the dominant hand grasping the grip with the secondary or support hand underneath. It resembles the way that American soldiers were trained on the 1911 platform during World War 2, but not quite. It's called "tea cupping" because the support hand resembles the saucer beneath a cup of tea. You can tell that Bond is tea-cupping by the way most of his dominant hand is covered by the fingers of his support hand.

Functionally, it doesn't do anything except maybe provide some stability, but even then, not much. A proper two-handed grip has the palm of the dominant hand a little more open where the palm of support hand also engages the grip of the pistol. The wrist of the support hand is locked which helps mitigate muzzle flip and enable faster follow-up shots. The thumbs of both hands are together and pointed forward, though some people prefer the support hand to be a little more forward - that's just down to preference and/or the size of the pistol. I'm probably doing a poor job of explaining it - if you want to get it from some of the best, Jerry Miculek and Massad Ayoob are possibly the beat in the world and have described this in detail on YouTube - I highly recommend both for anybody who's curious.

A good comparison of right vs wrong is Keanu Reeves as John Wick (correct - his weapon handling is S-tier because he puts in a lot of range time and has had training) vs Scarlet Johanson as Black Widow (not a good look for the directors to not have this covered).

People will misread that. It’s been a good generation in general, but when compared to previous gen’s, it’s the worst.
