In an effort to curb potential burnout from Like A Dragon: Infinite Wealth, I got Lost Soul Aside on sale and will try my hand at that. When I played the demo, I wasn't impressed but with the all the work the dev's been putting in to fix the game, I was very curious to see if it's been paying off.
Also my gf returned my Switch 2 after letting her borrow it to play the new Pokemon, so it may be time to finally see how amazing Donkey Kong Bananza is
Last week I said after Like A Dragon, I wanted to branch out a little in RGG's catalog before Infinite Wealth and booted up Judgment. That didn't last long lol! I missed Ichiban, Nanba, Adachi, and Saeko too much so I just went straight into Infinite Wealth.
On Chapter 3 right now and so far, I'm loving it and happy to be back. The refined combat is interesting; I enjoy the new positioning and knockback system but perfect guard timing has been weirdly tighter? It may be because I've been playing on the Portal for the majority of my time, but I'm still enjoying it regardless!
Finished Like A Dragon on Thursday night; I was so in the palm of the game's hand that the ending shocked me and had me tearing up lol! I can now definitely say it IS one of my favorite game of all time, and a lot of that weighs on the shoulders of Ichiban Kasuga - if I did not care or root for that man, this would've had less of an impact on me. Ichi is such an incredible and well-written character; in some moments he's God's favorite idiot and others, he is the guiding beacon for your party and the story at large.
That said, in an effort to cleanse the palate - and because I heard this ties into Like A Dragon: Gaiden which also heavily relates to Infinite Wealth - I started up Judgment which will be my first foray into the proper Yakuza-style gameplay. I'm not that far into it - JUST finished the opening case - but I'm excited to dive deeper into RGG's catalog.
Also mildly intrigued by Dragon Quest since Like A Dragon/Ichiban is heavily "inspired" by it... Is 3 Remake a good starting point? If I loved LAD, would I enjoy it?
Found myself sucked back into Yakuza: Like A Dragon, on the final chapter. I absolutely love this game, and Ichiban Kasuga has become one of my all-time favorite characters. Debating whether to immediately jump into Infinite Wealth after or branch out and try the Judgment series or one of the standalones; I'm waiting on Yakuza 0 Director's Cut to start Kiryu's story proper.
Other than that, my brother bought me Battlefield 6 as a late birthday present so I'll be hopping on there when it arrives!
Last week, I said after platinuming Ghost of Yotei I didn't know if I should go back to Silent Hill f or move on to something else; I ultimately decided to go back to SH, and it was definitely the right move. It's gotten so much better since starting the game, and I'm enjoying it WAY more - to the point where I'm actually contemplating playing through a few more times to see how the story changes.
Other than that, I think I'm good on new releases for the year; maybe I pick up Battlefield 6 but that's nothing major. Seeing Hellblade 2 is on sale - may have to grab that!
Platinumed Ghost of Yotei yesterday. Sucker Punch really keeps upping the ante with every game; this is easily a GOTY contender and possibly better than Tsushima in my eyes - though I love the Batman-ish story of Tsushima. I was also really impressed with the side missions this time around; every bit of optional content felt well thought out and unique. Really, REALLY happy with my experience in Yotei!
As for what's next, I'm not sure lol! Playing Yotei and seeing all the references made me very nostalgic for past Sucker Punch games; I'd realized I'd never played Infamous 2... May replay the first and head into the second. I also still have Silent Hill f to beat, and need to work on the platinum for Death Stranding 2. Lots of avenues to go!
I have the whole of next week off, so I will spend it getting lost in Ghost of Yotei! I'm around 11 hours in now, and it is absolutely phenomenal; I may actually prefer it over Tsushima! Everything is just better and very refined!
Picked up Silent Hill f as I've been waiting on it - early reactions got me absolutely jazzed. Around 3 hours in, and... it's okay? I can't exactly put my finger on what isn't working for me but I've heard it continually gets better, so I won't lay a definitive opinion on it just yet. Love the art design and soundtrack, though!
Have a great weekend, everyone! A handful of sleeps until Ghost of Yotei!
Like I said last week, I pulled the trigger on Cronos: The New Dawn and have been playing it all week; man, Bloober's really stepping it up each release. This has been the most tense and difficult survival horror I've played in a minute. They really force you to take stock of your inventory and ammo situation before heading into a new area. It started out kinda punishing until you get upgrades and new equipment - I'm just now feeling like I can stand a chance. Loving the setting and vibe, as well. Soundtrack is amazing, and I wish it was available to listen to on streaming services.
Anyways, I'll be plugging away at that until Silent Hill f next week and Ghost of Yotei the week after - which I've secured preorders for both.
Also have skate downloaded, as well; have fond childhood memories of playing the first game while listening to tunes I burnt onto my Xbox 360 lol!
Beat Hell is Us last night; overall, I'd probably give it a 7.5/10. In the beginning, I was really enjoying it and soaking up all the story/lore but towards the end, I was just ready to finish it. The lack of hand-holding was refreshing (love a game where I gotta crack open a notebook) and the settings looked wonderful/ran great on UE5 but the story lost steam heading into the climax and I wish the combat mattered more in terms of the glyph system.
I also would've platinumed it but I really didn't feel like checking every nook and cranny for the "Legends of the Phol" trophy; just make the trophy for closing all the Timeloops.
Anyways, I'm finally deciding to pull the trigger on Cronos: The New Dawn - if anything to get it in before Silent Hill f and Ghost of Yotei
Where most people got into Ratchet and Clank or Jak and Daxter, I was playing Sly Cooper; I even remember entering the giveaways they did on Toonami back in the day.
Sucker Punch, make a new Sly Cooper. If we can get MediEvil back, Sly has his place as well lol
I finished Metal Gear Solid Delta last weekend, and was very happy with it; a beautiful and more modern remake that keeps the Kojima-ness of it completely intact. Wanted to do FOXHOUND rank and platinum the game before this week but I got to The Pain's fight and it was... a pain.
Metal Gear Solid V's 10th anniversary also got me thinking about going back and actually trying to finish the game. Incredible gameplay aside, hearing about the quality of the story over the past years really affected me wanting to complete it...
BUT! I picked up Hell is Us yesterday and I'm excited to dig into it! Also really wanting to grab Cronos: The New Dawn but I'll wait for now...
After ~99 hours, I finally finished Death Stranding 2's campaign. It's definitely surpassed the first game in my eyes, and has become my frontrunner for GOTY - as well as my personal all-time favorite game. Kojima and his team have refined the formula for DS and made it better to play, while making a more cohesive and gut-punching narrative. Can't wait to continue to keep playing while I chip at the platinum!
I also picked up Metal Gear Solid Delta; looks gorgeous - though I can't escape Konami just telling Virtuos to make the game look like the pachinko games lol - and plays thankfully similar to MGSV.
I've been working diligently at Death Stranding 2 - just got to Chapter 9, around 78 hours in. Haven't been able to sink in as much time as I wanted but I'm getting there. Still absolutely loving it. Not trying to rush but I would like to complete it before MGS Delta and possibly Lost Soul Aside.
It's been tempting to get into Hellblade 2 finally, and even Echoes of the End looks appealing
I made it a point to platinum Silent Hill 2 Remake before Death Stranding 2 came out, and I'm happy to say I did so the day before the official release.
I've been hooked on DS2 since Thursday and although I'm roughly 20 hours in, it's topped the original so far; it's much more refined and more engaging. If it can keep this up for the whole game... I may have a new all-time favorite, I dunno!
The first Death Stranding will always have a place in my heart but DS2 is definitely a more concentrated version of that!
@Oram77 It was really unfortunate - especially since I will be playing it on PS - but I'm thankful to have a decent enough PC to run it. Gave me the Soulslike vibe I've been craving after Lies of P with a very interesting story and a really good soundtrack. Easy day one purchase for me.
Doing my best to clear my backlog before Death Stranding 2 comes out, as I will 100% be no life-ing it since DS is my all-time favorite.
Beat Expedition 33 late last night; absolutely incredible stuff and I can't see a world where it isn't GOTY. The layered and complex narrative alone is worth the price of admission.
Now, I'm not sure where to go - do I stay the turn-based route and continue my playthrough of Like A Dragon, or do I push through Doom: The Dark Ages?
I've got Expedition 33 going no matter what but after platinuming Lies of P last weekend, I've found myself in a PSD (Post-Soulslike Depression) and I'm currently looking for something to scratch that itch. Just gave Code Vein a whirl and bounced off it - something felt off - and I have The Surge 2 ready to rock.
Is it time to just commit to the Nioh series, and if so which one?
Surprisingly loved this when I played it on PC - even got all of the achievements. Very much looking forward to picking it up and getting the platinum!
Still knee-deep in my Like A Dragon addiction; still on Chapter 5 because I'm just getting lost in everything. Been watching a 3hr video of Kiryu's adventures in the meantime so I can be ready for Infinite Wealth - which I preemptively bought (for $20!)
I've found myself gravitated to Like A Dragon - which is my first time really digging into this series. The game's so wild, it fits my sense of humor; and Ichiban is an absolutely fantastic protagonist. It's at the point where I'm kinda looking forward to Infinite Wealth (after YouTubing Kiryu's story for now)
Also - even when I'm taking on a meaty RPG - I'm side-eying Monster Hunter Wilds. Could never get into the series due to lack of really trying, but Wilds looks really good and very accessible to a newbie like me. So, I guess we'll see!
Finally platinumed Final Fantasy XV last weekend, so that's off my plate. I was gonna check out the Monster Hunter Wilds beta but since PSN is down, I'll go back to my modded Final Fantasy XIII playthrough on Steam...
Beat Final Fantasy XV a couple days ago and now I'm three trophies shy from the platinum; the expert skill ones...
After getting the plat, I'm gonna continue my Final Fantasy journey by essentially going backwards as I have: next on deck is XIII - with some mod support - then XII and X on my PS5. Not being a huge turn-based guy, I'm hoping playing in reverse order will help me acclimate to the style.
Regardless, I'm excited for the road that's ahead of me! If anyone has any tips, insights, or whatever-have-you about the series, let me know!
I've reflected upon Astro Bot as the best PlayStation ever - because it's the embodiment of everything PS is and even goes the extra mile to honor its lineage. Astro Bot is the Sony system brand in a wonderful little package!
My first PS1 memories are of some demo disc that had Spyro, Metal Gear Solid, MediEvil, and a game called Spider. The only full games my family had were Spider-Man and The Grinch, and I would rent A Bug's Life and Twisted Metal 2 from the local Hollywood Video (RIP)
Speaking of Twisted Metal; if Sony wants to carry on with this live-service push, TM needs to be in the mix. I'm honestly waiting to see if it ever sees the light of day
I'm in the minority that's never fully played Witcher 3, but that Witcher 4 announcement got me hyped!
Push Square is honestly an excellent name; well met, Sammy! Hilarious suggestions, though!
As a big OG MediEvil supporter (DanHead? Danannite?) it's exciting to see the sequel get ported onto the store and made widely accessible. I have it downloaded and ready to rock after I beat Final Fantasy XV! GIVE ME MORE DAN!
I was experiencing some major gaming burn-out for the past week or so. At first, I was wanting to chase the high of levelling up, then I was wanting something I could mindlessly play while I listened to some Kinda Funny content; after that, absolutely nothing was hitting.
Then, Final Fantasy XV caught my eye for some reason and I've honestly been hooked since. This is my third FF - previous two being FFXVI and FFVII Remake - and even though it's not touching how much I loved XVI, I'm enjoying it a lot. Really enjoying getting lost in the open world and as of chapter three, I'm digging the story.
I'm also considering buying MediEvil II now that it's on the PS Store; love my boy Sir Dan! Hopefully, it's another platinum I get along with the remake!
As a follow-up to last week, I'm still playing Indiana Jones and the Great Circle (on PC via Game Pass)
I'm pretty sure I'm at the end and it's gonna be tough to put it behind me; I've had quite the ride with it and it's become my biggest surprise of the year.
I'll definitely be grabbing it in the spring on PS5 - going off the achievements, the platinum will be easy!
Awesome, my submission for Silent Hill 2 got picked! Thanks so much for opportunity; I've been trying to break through a wall with my writing and couldn't pass this up. I'll definitely be chiming in on next year's monthly submissions!
Despite going back to Star Wars: Outlaws (and enjoying it) and having been waiting for Soul Reaver Remastered, I've found myself in the grips of Indiana Jones on PC Game Pass.
To say I'm hooked would be an understatement; this is definitely scratching the Uncharted/Tomb Raider itch I've been having, despite others saying it's more akin to Dishonored.
Considering I've spent majority of my time in the Vatican, I wouldn't be surprised if I ended the year with it.
Completed my second run on Silent Hill 2 remake (speedrun/all collectibles/melee only/no radio/new game +) and felt myself gravitating back to Star Wars Outlaws - especially after the new patch release.
Definitely enjoying it more this time around. The small changes they've made to combat and stealth have really helped what I'm getting from the game.
Played the Enhanced Edition for the first time a couple years ago and it instantly became an all-timer. Can't wait to dive in; happy to see it got the love and care it deserves!
Platinumed Astro Bot on Thursday so I've gone back to Black Myth: Wukong with bursts of Star Wars Outlaws.
Though, I did grab Ace Combat 7 and its season pass for cheap on the PS Store... Never played any of the series so I'm intrigued! Smacks of Armored Core a bit...
Trying to kill time until August when Black Myth and Outlaws come out. Not gonna swing for Shadow of the Erdtree or Final Shape until they hit a sale.
At the moment, I've been playing Diablo IV nonstop with my friend and I've got The Division 2 and Sekiro going on my PS5. Oh, and I may have also started Another Crab's Treasure on my Steam Deck...
Caved and got Stellar Blade yesterday - along with Alone in the Dark for $30. Was extremely apprehensive to pick it up due to the "attention" its been getting but I heard it was a pretty damn good soulslike so that was my way in.
Sank ~2 hours into each so far; Alone in the Dark is fine - has some decent tone and I like the look of a lot of things - but Stellar Blade has REALLY surprised me. Gameplay feels good, looks gorgeous, and the music's been hitting. Excited to keep playing it!
Also got the PS5 version of Fallout 4 to run through. Never really gave it a try so I'm looking forward to experiencing it as well!
Rise of the Ronin's had its teeth in me since it came out and I'm still into it ~35 hours in. This is the first Team Ninja game that's really clicked with me and while it definitely has flaws, it's been a blast to play. Loving the Assassin's Creed exploration with the Souls/Sekiro combat (though I can never nail the parries)
I have Rebirth and Dragon's Dogma waiting for me on the sideline and Helldivers 2 open for whenever my coworker wants to kill some bugs.
Rise of the Ronin and Helldivers 2 have been the ones to hit the most for me. I have Rebirth and Dragon's Dogma 2 but I haven't been in that "mood" to play them.
Put Lies of P on ice to give this a proper try. Played it twice before (PS4 launch and next-gen update) and never got very far. Never even got to anything with Silverhand.
Playing it tonight and aside from some setting tweaking, it's like night and day from launch on my PS5.
Caved in and bought the digital deluxe of Lies of P to play early.
Easily the best-feeling souls-like that I've played that's not FromSoft. Really enjoying the Bloodborne/Sekiro gameplay and the setting and lore is very interesting.
Excited to keep playing, then roll onto the Cyberpunk update (to give it a legitimate try!)
Got it today after finally beating FFXVI last night (AMAZING!) but this will be my first AC game. I got into FromSoft's games last year and have platinumed Bloodborne, Demon's Souls, and Elden Ring since. Not sure how well it'll go but I'm excited to find out.
Already sold on Deathloop; don't need to see any more for it & definitely don't need another(?) State of Play where it's the focus.
Disappointed, to say the least. Excited for everything but the main course. PS has been pushing it since the new year started - give the spotlight to something else.
@render @eagletrippin I ran in reverse and I GOT IT ON THE FIRST TRY! It was in the room with the hand, which I've never seen before! Thank you so much, gang! THE PLATINUM DREAM IS ALIVE AGAIN!!!

1. Death Stranding 2: On the Beach
2. Ghost of Yotei
3. Hell is Us
4. Metal Gear Solid Delta: Snake Eater
5. Silent Hill f
Honestly, Cronos would've been in there but that Hell is Us demo impressed the hell outta me.

Re: Mailbox: The Joy of Astro Bot, Ciri in The Witcher 4, and Terrible Trophy Lists
Lovely first mailbox, gang!
Some thoughts from the submissions:
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 565
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 560
Re: Game of the Year: Push Square Readers Write About Their Favourite PS5 Games of 2024
Awesome, my submission for Silent Hill 2 got picked! Thanks so much for opportunity; I've been trying to break through a wall with my writing and couldn't pass this up. I'll definitely be chiming in on next year's monthly submissions!
Much love to everyone! Here's to the new year!
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 559
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 557
Re: Poll: Are You Playing Silent Hill 2?
Just got back from GameStop, installing now!
Played the Enhanced Edition for the first time a couple years ago and it instantly became an all-timer. Can't wait to dive in; happy to see it got the love and care it deserves!
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 546
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 535
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 526
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 523
Re: Video: Our Favourite PS5 Games of 2024 So Far
Rise of the Ronin and Helldivers 2 have been the ones to hit the most for me. I have Rebirth and Dragon's Dogma 2 but I haven't been in that "mood" to play them.
Re: Poll: Are You Playing Cyberpunk 2077 Update 2.0?
Put Lies of P on ice to give this a proper try. Played it twice before (PS4 launch and next-gen update) and never got very far. Never even got to anything with Silverhand.
Playing it tonight and aside from some setting tweaking, it's like night and day from launch on my PS5.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 494
Re: Poll: Did You Buy Armored Core 6?
Got it today after finally beating FFXVI last night (AMAZING!) but this will be my first AC game. I got into FromSoft's games last year and have platinumed Bloodborne, Demon's Souls, and Elden Ring since. Not sure how well it'll go but I'm excited to find out.
Re: Poll: Did You Buy Forspoken?
Reviews came out and I decided to either wait for a deep sale or use trade-in credit to not pay a dime.
Using some Amazon credit, I ended up pulling the trigger on it for around $25 US. Hoping it's worth at least that much. I'll know tonight.
Re: Poll: Are You Playing Cyberpunk 2077 on PS5?
Bought it on initial release and ended up selling it because all the discourse soured my want to play the game.
Seeing the PS5 version came out, and that it was on sale for pretty cheap, I picked it up again and so far it's been pretty good.
I'm not getting deep into it since Horizon and Elden Ring are inbound but I plan to jump in when things start to slow down.
Re: State of Play Livestream Confirmed for Thursday, Featuring Deathloop
Already sold on Deathloop; don't need to see any more for it & definitely don't need another(?) State of Play where it's the focus.
Disappointed, to say the least. Excited for everything but the main course. PS has been pushing it since the new year started - give the spotlight to something else.
Re: Talking Point: What Are You Playing This Weekend? - Issue 380
Platinumed Returnal on Thursday and immediately jumped into Rift Apart, which I got the platinum for moments ago.
Got my free upgrade for Final Fantasy 7 Remake so I'm gonna be continuing my first (ever) playthrough of the game!
Re: PS5 Architect Mark Cerny Adds Returnal's Platinum to His Collection of Prestigious Pots
@render @eagletrippin I ran in reverse and I GOT IT ON THE FIRST TRY! It was in the room with the hand, which I've never seen before! Thank you so much, gang! THE PLATINUM DREAM IS ALIVE AGAIN!!!
