For me this is a waist of time, money and people who could work on the next single player game that they are great in. The market of multiplayer games is full and has many, many failed attempts where quality in graphics and story never are the reason as most mp gamers don't care.
I love Guerrilla games to death but I call BS and here is why. The game was developed for PS4. If it was developed for PS5 they probably had coop in their as they wanted that for the first game but weren't able as they had to sacrifice the visuals. It's a PS4 game with an added PS5 update for visuals but level design and gameplay are for an 8 year old console. That is fine but they should have mentioned that and not introduce the game as a next gen game.
If a next Sunset Overdrive game will be made it could improve on the original and Sony will have the multiplayer game they want so badly. If it's only that than I'm not interested. If there is a fun single player campaign, and the price is right (it probably isn't as all PS exclusives are overpriced, except for Kena) I will give it a try.
I was late to the game as I had to do a year without my PS4 when the game came out (we had to move and build a new home so my stuff went into storage) but it was the first game I bought and played after the drought and I freaking loved it. I really like to see the story continued as it finished on a cliff hanger.
@carlos82 This is nothing new for MS. When they started Windows they took it from Xerox who didn't know what to do with it. Then when the system got traction, companies developed video- and audio-player, a calculator and more. MS bought them up, the rest of the companies went away and so it went on and on. MS doesn't make, they only take.
Sony outpriced me with the new game prices. That is fine, I won't buy them at release and wait until they are cheap. Added benefit is that the updates are all done so I have the best experience.
I have all Media Molecule games but Dreams is my least favorite one. I like using it to make music but that is it. The motion controle is a pain to use and quite cumbersome for me. I'm also not a fan of the Imp, why not the option for a simple arrow? I'm wondering if it made any money for Sony and look forward to the next thing that MM is going to do.
Sony/PlayStation is missing a face, it's a corporation, sure just like any game company, but it lacks personality and true excitement. Do the games speak for themselves, sure, but a bit of hype and a friendly face that is as exciting about their company and their games and their users would be nice, especially during these times.
I still have to play Spider-man Milles Morales because of the steep price. I can wait. I use to buy exclusives new but this take too big a bite out of my gaming budget so I'm going to get myself buried on older games and wait till a deep sale. Extra plus is that the game will be patched by then.
I'm trying it for a year. I have 3 months to go and I'm not going to renew it. Streaming just doesn't feel good and the PS4 games selection just is to much quantity and not enough quality.
What, they worked almost 3 years on this game and it isn't only on PS5. No of course not. When they started the specs of the PS5 weren't known so they started on an ambitious PS4 game. When PS5 specs came around they started the development for PS5. How will it be better?
Higher frames per second.
Higher textures and models.
Raytracing.
Faster loading times.
More characters in cities.
A more detailed environment.
3D audio.
Optimized with dualSence. And that are a few of the things I can imagine. It's fine, it's what the cross gen period of every console ever released looked like. Could Sony have been a bit more clear, sure, but is it a surprise, no.
I don't care for timed exclusives, especially at the start of a new console cycle. Imagine you are a smaller studio and you have trouble to get enough money to develop your vision. It would even be harder to develop it for a new platform. So when a platform owner comes along and offers you money for timed exclusives rights, and (what I know from PlayStation) they help you find your way on the new platform with great support, than it would be a no brainer and the indie game developer and platform holder both have a win. Eventually the game will come out on other platforms, that is fine, otherwise it maybe didn't get made and last time I checked a game that is a bit older can still be enjoyed to play. The thing about Phil Spencer is that he said he didn't like it and trow his little turds at PlayStation and not he shows a ton of timed exclusives. That is sad and dishonest.
Phil, this game doesn't run on the Xbox 360, explain. It's just because MS doesn't have any studios ready for next gen game. His story will change in time make him, again, look very stupid. If he believes in what he is saying why not stop making consoles and just games, it's a viable business model.
Such a smart article, I hope Sony listens to these wise words because in the past the last gen PlayStation production always stopped month if not weeks after the new console came around....wait...what? They supported it for many, many, many years every single generation...? That is smart!
The culture in the Netherlands is not that one person is mainly responsible for everything. Sure Guerrilla needed help when they started with their open world endeavor. They hired the best in the industrie and learned from them. Now other writers who were able to grow over the years are able to develop the third part of the trilogy.
My top 3(ish) are: Gran Turismo 7 Horizon Forbidden West Kena: Bridge of Spirits Marvel's Spider-Man: Miles Morales Ratchet & Clank: Rift Apart Stray
And I am very interested in: Returnal Sackboy: A Big Adventure Sherlock Holmes: Chapter One The Lord of the Rings: Gollum Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines 2
We live in countries where free speech and freedom in art is a fact. But with freedom comes a responsibility and that is that you should respect it. So if you don't like the game, that is fine. If you demand it has to be something else, you are acting like a dictator, that is not fine. And attacking an actrice about a role she is playing is beyond stupid. Do people understand she is not the character, she is just playing her (excellently).
@Tharsman I have no idea what you try to say. Sure third party can make games for whatever they want, that is on all systems. Again, that is not the point. Do do force their own studios to make their game run on pc, Xbox One, Xbox One X, Xbox Series X and maybe even their cheaper Xbox Series S or whatever that is going to be called. If you are going to tell me that doesn't take any extra work you know nothing about game development because that is a ton of work. But that is all beside the point. The point is they don't make games exclusively using the XSX full feature set and I find that not a very good for early adapters of the new system. I hate MS with a passion but I want them to do great on XSX because I think competition is good. I think this will not help the attachment rate of the SXS and they could fall behind because of their stupid decisions.
@Tharsman Sure, games on an older system should be playable on the new system. The Last of Us 2 will plays on the PS5, that is not the point. Building exclusive games on the PS5 shouldn't take 7 year old hardware in account, the developers shouldn't be forced to not use all the advantages the new system has to run on the old system.
If I was to release a next gen console and I didn't had anything in development for it because I didn't care this gen and these studios I just bought don't have a large enough, technically advanced team that would be able to build AAA game for next gen yet, I would say I would support the current gen for at least another year and I would sell it as being wonderful but in fact I was spitting in the face of early adapters and clearly don't understand that my own game developers are there to showcase my new console. So yeah, just like every new console ever build (up until now) there where exclusive games to showcase the new system and those games couldn't run on the old hardware.
It's still about half a year until we can buy the console. There is enough time to put some substantial information out there. MS wants to keep their series X into the news but don't have anything to show for it, yet, THAT is actually frustrating and I'm glad Sony waits until they got the actual console to show us everything and not a pc build with a disclaimer that they hope it will look like that.
Years ago Polyphony said they made all their assets (cars, circuits, etc) in a very high poly count as to not have to remake them for PS5. I think Gran Tourismo will be day one on the PS5.
I will buy and play 80% on that list and I will add the next Gran Turismo to that list and anything new and exciting that the Sony studio's will bring to us.
Well that was an imature post, Pushsquare's Sammy Barker. Most people hated on Xbox because they didn't show gameplay or visuals from the actual Xbox Series X. Sony is waiting until they can show the actual consumer product with actual software running on it but they aren't ready yet to avoid the mistake Xbox made but that is not good enough? You demand it now? Wow, dud.
Sony has said they wanted to wait until they had the consumer hardware. The want to show the gameplays and not "Footage representative of EXPECTED XSX visuals" (remember Watch Dogs 1). And they want to show the quality of life experience you will have on the PS5. Their silence won this round again as Xbox willingly keeps on lying to their customers.
The power of a console is that it's that one machine for the whole generation. Game developers can program to the metal for that one piece of tech. There is a reason a pc has a lot of overhead and unused potential because there are thousand of configurations possible. By releasing a lower spec console Xbox is holding the consoles back in the worst way possible. Even if it is only down scaling, it takes developers extra time to make it run smooth and that ups the cost for the creation of the game and hurts the end product. And gamepass looks like a great deal but making a game is very expensive and if you want a high quality, game of the year contender game (as Sony had a lot of and MS not) it takes money and I'm happy to pay full price for it.

It's a clear signal most PlayStation gamers don't care much for multiplayer games. I would skip the month if possible to freeze my sub.
