I think this man is still in a lot of pain. Days Gone was set up as an ip and the story wasn't finished but Sony decided to pull the plug (unfortunately). I understand he is bitter and has an emotional reaction. That doesn't make him right but also not a jerk, just a human with X.
@Maubari Now you are getting your panty's in a knot for nothing as games like Helldivers 2 and Concord are a fixed price with nothing of what you mentioned. Even Gran Turismo can be enjoyed with buying cars and the tracks are free. Would I like them to release more single player games, yes and I pre-ordered Astro Boy to prove it.
That is one hell of a unprofessional "article" from someone who never made a game and doesn't know how the game industry works. Yes Concord failed. Sony is giving their customers they money back (I have never seen that done by a publisher). They already canceled about 6 MP/GAAS studios after Jim left so I think Hermen went to see what was there and scrapped. I guess Concord was too close to the finish to not try it. Lets make one thing clear, the game itself looks and plays great. It's not a broken mess like Cyberpunk or Redfall. It just didn't stick like Helldivers 2 did.
Every.single.console.cycle we hear some self-proclaimed know-it-all nitwit claiming the console is going the way of the dodo and every time it's not. Is Xbox failing, yes. Is it because consoles will stop to exist, no. It is because they can't manage game studios, the can't grow nor improve them. They have no idea how to do that. The end result are bad to mediocre games.
Forbes has a long and pathetic history of lying about PlayStation and trying to put them in a bad light. If Sony had this game is an exclusive they would promote that.
I don't care this game going to PC but in the end it's a love letter to PlayStation with a ton of cameo's that would go over the heads of PC only gamers.
In the end it doesn't matter what Phil Spencer is saying as it's never said in stone and they can change their direction a minute later. One thing is clear, Xbox did cost about 100 trillion and MS and their investors demand a return on investment and they want is quick.
@WolfyTn When the game released it was wildly different than what it is today. The developer took all criticizing at hart and changed it a ton. I thought the original was okay but I played it again a month ago and liked it more. It's cheap so give it a try.
I hope there will be a demo. If it is souls like I for sure skip it as I have enough frustrations to deal with in daily life, otherwise I am very interested as it looks stunning.
Physical games are presented in stores and pop up in advertising of these stores. Xbox has almost no presence anymore, not in game, toy or electronics store or anywhere else because they stopped releasing physical games and/or their customers didn't by physical games anymore. It's not a wonder the brand is dead.
I'm wondering if Push had the numbers to backup their clickbate headline. I guess they didn't. Who did? PlayStation. They see growth after a release of an older game on PC and after a show or movie hits. When that is a recurring trend you can make this statement.
I remember when Steam became a thing the PC paupers where in uprising they needed to download and log into it. They had their little tatrum hissy fit non sense. Now they pray to Gabe's fat butt as it's gospel. Sony should have stick to their guns. Give whiny kids what they want and they will become monsters.
Because this is content ready at release it's something they held back, that is garbage. But eventualy it will be for sale or released for free to entice new customers to buy the game. I pre-ordered the standard edition and if their dlc is good, and when it's at a deep discount, and I'm still interrested, I will buy it.
This is all on PlayStation's management pushing the GAAS/MP crap and have 12 of these kind of games in development. Due to that Studios need to grow and waist time and money to make them. Now they thought about it for a minute and concluded that all that investment (just like in the PS3 era) doesn't go anywhere as the market is saturated. So now all those new people need to be kicked out and time and money is waisted forever. It'll take extra time to get those studios to release their main titles and moral is down the drain. Every single manager/CEO who approved this failure should leave the company.
All this time and money spent on about 12 MP/GAAS titles, together with a failing Bungie investment. It's PS3 all over again. There are enough MP/GAAS titles made and most of them fail. But making a good Single Player game is an art and PS is very good at it. Keep doing that.
In the past an exclusive game had to show to the max what the console could do and had to be good. Making a profit wasn't needed. The user base would grow and a lot of money was earned with third party games. I think that still should be the case.
@ChrisDeku Sucker Punch is a small studio (about 160 people). It's a wonder they produced Ghost of Tsushima at the scale and quaity as they did. We don't want developers to crush or rush, we want amazing games and that takes time.
PlayStation currently has a ton of success not due to the fact Xbox isn't doing great but because their game devision spreads out over tv and movies. Above that they are not the only company making games, they still want to be the best in the business and love what they do. I do expect slightly longer hardware cycles and I think that is a good thing.
Eventualy a company (and it's investors) will want to see a return on investment. MS invested over 20 years in a console that just can't fly. It's doing fine but not great. Phil Spencer suckered MS into spending billions to buy more game companies with the promiss of success and both MS and the fans bought into it but in the end the game isn't about how many studios or ip's you have but what is the quality of the output and the quality is very Xbox like (mediocre and bad). If you lack the tallent to manage studios, buying more studios doesn't help, it makes it even more difficult. Maybe if the studios they bought where in great shape but they weren't. So now they try to go multi platform but still the road to succes is great games and I still don't see that. Before you mention a few outlyers that are great, they are just few and far apart.
It's a shame as a PlayStation owner I rooted for Xbox and I was ready to buy a Xbox Series One if the games would be great, I still haven't got a Xbox.
I tought is was excelent. Stellar Blade, Judas and Death Stranding 2 where my highlights. The ending with Hermen and Hideo was so awesome, I mean a new MGS like game!
Everything I love I buy physical (or when it's cheap). I do that with music, movies and games. It's the main reason I haven't bought Alan Wake 2 as I want it on disk. Digital is worthless to me and I treat it like that.
I'm old, I played the first Tomb Raider and Laura Croft was as cool as can be. I saw the original trillogy Star Wars movies in cinema and Princes Lea kicked ass. Chloe Frazer and Nadine Ross in Uncharted: The Lost Legacy where awesome and fun to play with.
Sure pushing a female in a lead role and overcoming any obstical without a problem (many Disney movies) isn't earned and makes for bad writing. If you call that woke, fine, but we don't know anything about this GTA6 character. Only thing we know is that the writers for the GTA series do a great job and I expect her to be fun to play with.
I hope the gameplay is a bit lest clunky than the first one but for gamepass I'm happy to try it. Evil West is one I'm going to try to but don't have high expectations.
@naruball I worked in IT for banks, courts, and many Gouvernement departments like police and non have been cracked and it's not that they got attacked daily. I tough, it's difficult but if personal information isn't even on an other platform than the game development you just didn't do a good job trying.
@NotSoCryptic I understand what you are saying but you claim to know a company culture when in fact you don't you know a country culture. If I put that on my country culture (I'm Dutch and we are brutally direct and honest) I don't always see that within company culture, sometimes even the opposite and I was a process manager (ITIL) in more than 20 large and medium sized companies. Only fact I can come up with, and it's a positive on, is that we always learn from our mistakes. We take what is good and build on what went wrong and in the end we all are better for that. That is exactly what some of these people said.
@K1LLEGAL It probably helps that almost every game runs better on PS5. Above that the PlayStation eco system is more likely to survive (so better to invest in) than Xbox. I think that are also important reasons besides the ton of high quality first party studio's.

Helldivers 2 was great, Concord was a stinker so who knows.
I personally don't play MP/GAAS games, not my thing, but I wish them a ton of success.
