Re: Bobby Kotick Says Sony Is 'Trying to Sabotage' Microsoft's Activision Bid

Tielo

In a Bananenrepublik this kind of behavior is probably the way to get what you want, but in the rest of the civilized world the law will judge if a sale can go trough.
When everything is said and done Xbox gamers won't play a game less if the sale doesn't continue. If they ask sugar-daddy Phil nicely he'll pay to get CoD on their beloved gamepass.

Re: Sony Shakes Up Corporate Ladder by Promoting Exec Obsessed with Growth

Tielo

@nessisonett Yes constant growth is for sure the wrong thing to do it when it's only one product, but here growth is (I think reading the article) going into the car business with Honda and that is smart. Electric cars use a ton of components Sony is really good in like camera's and software so it's smart to diversify your portfolio and going into business with an excellent car maker to be less depending on the entertainment pillar that is doing to well for them at the moment.
It's like theme parks for Comcast, it's doing so well for them (Universal Studios) they now have a third pillar making their company much stable unlike Disney who only is in entertainment.

Re: Activision Blizzard Exec Says Last of Us HBO Proves Microsoft Acquisition Should Go Ahead

Tielo

She has a point, Xbox, even after 20 years with the backing of a trillion dollar company, isn't able to rise above the third place.
They should be able to buy their success to compensate for their lack of quality and capability to manage game studios and the creative people that work there. Acquisitions will help (in the short term) until the creatives are fed up and move on.

Re: Xbox, Nintendo Reportedly Join Sony in Skipping E3

Tielo

E3 had a good run, I loved them in the past, but the last 5+ years it showed it wasn't relevant anymore. Game companies can now release information at a time it's convenient for them, no more crushing for the show and that is a huge plus.

Re: Developer Remedy Provides Update on In-Development Control Games, Alan Wake 2

Tielo

I know playing Max Payne and having a lot of fun with them but time hasn't been kind to these games. I hope for a good re-imagining that captures the mood but improves on everything else. Control was an amazing game and I'd love to see a new story in that universe. Alan Wake was fine but didn't live up to the hype it got on Xbox. As with most games from Remedy the control of the action is a bit clunky and could be smoother in all of their games but the Twin Peaks like atmosphere and stories keep me going for sure.

Re: Shocking: Sony Doesn't Want Game Pass on PlayStation, Microsoft Has a Pop at PS Plus

Tielo

A lot of things are going on with gamepass. First of all the games that have heavy monetization. Most Xbox exclusives and many non exclusives have it and is making Xbox money, even when the service runs on PlayStation. I'm positive Sony wants a piece of that pie is previously it was theirs.
Then games that are sold on the PlayStation store and in brick and morter stores, Sony, like MS, get 30% of the sales but when it's on gamepass who is getting that profit? Not PlayStation.

If Xbox pays Sony for all lost revenue I'm positive Sony would accept it but I'm sure that Xbox, who is already loosing a ton of money on their platform, won't do that.

In the end there is a simple solution that Xbox and PlayStation can work with.
Xbox stop making consoles and start making games for PC and PlayStation (and maybe Nintendo). They can do like EA and Ubi does, make a subscription with games they make after they made their money in innitial sales. Just like some movies from streaming platforms first release in cinema's. Xbox could become another Tencent and maybe start making a profit.

Re: Talking Point: We Need to Discuss This Horizon Zero Dawn PS5 Remaster

Tielo

There we go again as if this is news. Lets look at the facts:
1) A tv series is being made of the Horizon ip.
2) So a PC version needs to be re-released on PC.
3) And because of that they use the updated engine, texture etc to make the re-release.
4) They re-release it also on PS as it doesn't cost them anything and there are enough people who double dip.
5) All this is probably mainly done by juniors and interns and it's a nice learning oppertunety.
6) It make a few more millions of free money (to probably dump in MP/Live Service crap).

Re: Sony Producing Two Million PSVR2 Headsets by March 2023

Tielo

I am very interrested in the PSVR2, but I want to see the amount of investment Sony is preparing to put in the platform.
For their multiplayer/live service crap they put 10 exclusive titles in production and bought a studio for $7B. I don't see that yet for PSVR2. Also the promise of hybrid games still has to come to fruition for the PS exclusives. So I wait until they come true to their promise.

Re: PlayStation Boss Jim Ryan Demanded Firm Reinvigorate Interest in Indies

Tielo

I don't think Jim Ryan does a bad job, where the problem is lies in the communication department of PlayStation.
Look at Phil, doesn't know how to make a game and most released on his watch is garbage but he gets a positive rap because he smiles and talks a lot (often out of his a$$ but you get my point).
PlayStation has too much class to go for that but their communication department needs a refresh. Hermen Hulst is a godsend as a leader for the studios as he knows how to make games and it shows in his leadership.

Re: PSVR2 Is Truly Next-Gen, And Indies Will Lead the Software Charge

Tielo

If you have 10 mp (game as a service) games in development at you own studios and above that invest $7B in Bungie for the same thing, I'm a bit dissapointed that all we have seen now is the Horizon game. Assets where already there so it can't be to much of an investment. The promis of Hybrid Games is made but we still have to see proof of that. It's not that I don't care about indie games, some are amazing but I want big tripple A experiences and a 7 hour Horizon game isn't that.

Re: Talking Point: What Do You Make of Microsoft and Sony's Call of Duty Quarrel?

Tielo

Xbox buying Activision Blizzard, no one wins.
Xbox gamers are getting nothing new, they get the games that would have been made anyway. The only "win" is that they come on gamepass. There is a caveat as no studio bought by MS has performed better than when they weren't bought, always worse. And gamepass will get more expensive as eventually investors will want to see a return on investment (something Xbox hasn't done ever).
PS will initially lose as they will miss income from the sale of the games and the many dlc/microtransactions, gamers who are devoted CoD players will jump ship. Caveat, It will force PS to invest and create a better multiplayer game. Above that PS will try harder to get players back to their system or make sure gamers don't leave (like in the PS3 era) and to be honest that was a big win for the gamers.

Xbox not buying Activision Blizzard, nothing changes, no one loses.
*Disclaimer: I don't play mp games or care much about the Activision Blizzard games so I couldn't care less.

Re: The Witcher 4 Will Kick Off a Multi-Game Saga, Says CD Projekt RED

Tielo

I love the Witcher 3 but are enough key people still working at the company to make it as good as it needs to be.
Cyberpunk was such a disillusion that it's hard for me to get excited. I'll wait until trusted reviews are in (ACG) and the game is out for the general public before I consider to buy it.

Re: UK Government Investigating Xbox's Activision Buyout Further

Tielo

If the sales goes trough and all Activision games get on game pass day one than the UK will loose a lot of money from physical sales.
PlayStation is much bigger in the UK so all sales from physical disks for both console will evaporate instantly. Xbox doesn't sell the game but only the pass that is in their own financial system so the UK tax payer will see taxes rise eventually.
